Chapter 9 Irreparable

Author: Wooden Log
I finally spoke up. "Right. You don't want a divorce, but you want to sleep with other women. You're not looking for a wife; you're looking for a servant who will endure whatever you do, keep quiet, and let you humiliate her."

Andrew opened his mouth, stammering. "I… I was just… influenced by Jenny," he said, desperation in his voice. "I swear I won't ever do it again! Once I'm out, I'll live properly with you, okay? I'll be a good husband!"

I laughed, bitter and mocking. "I've said it all clearly. How low does someone have to be to stay with you? Andrew, it's over between us. If you hadn't used your mother as an excuse to trick me into coming here, I wouldn't even be seeing you now."

"Yes! Mom!" Andrew's tears flowed even harder.

He rambled on, saying how much his mother had wanted to return to their hometown.

He thought that now, with his own success and shine, letting her go back would make him look weak. So, he forced her to stay in this big city that never suited her.

"And my mother never would have died!"Andrew grabbed the desk lamp and swung it at Jenny's head, but the police pinned him down before he could land the blow. The same Jenny he always described as gentle and thoughtful stumbled backward in panic, her face twisted as she snapped, "You were the one who insisted on doing it! What does any of this have to do with me?"Both of them were taken into custody to wait for the investigation.Truthfully, it didn't take long. The evidence in my hands was more than enough.…I appeared in court as the plaintiff. And because I had already posted the recordings and surveillance videos online, the case drew so much attention that the entire trial was streamed live.People had already seen the footage of Andrew and Jenny beating me within an inch of my life. The comments were unanimous. They called the two of them monsters. No one sympathized with them. The law didn't either. At first, I couldn't understand how Andrew had turned into this. La

Andrew forced a smile, but it didn't reach his eyes. "Dr. Sterling, you must be mistaken. That surgery was clearly done by Clara. Didn't you see? Her name's on the surgical record. How could it be me?"William's expression faltered. "How could I forget? Didn't you alter the records without authorization to frame Dr. Winters?"Andrew froze, speechless. Then, William dropped an even heavier bomb. "The patient in that surgery really was your mother. Dr. Winters didn't curse her out of spite against you. The police have already confirmed it."Andrew's laughter turned into tears, and his tears into disbelief."That's impossible. I don't believe it. Did Clara bribe you or something, that you'd say this on her behalf? My mom told me yesterday morning that she was having fun traveling with her friends. She wasn't sick, so she didn't need any surgery!"I looked at him, cold and unwavering."That's because your mother didn't want you to worry. She knew if you found out she was going into

"The truth? Just check the security footage," I said, pointing at the body in the morgue drawer. "And the person they killed by violating hospital rules? The corpse is right here, and yes, it's his mother."Jenny took a cautious step back, forcing a nervous laugh. "I had nothing to do with this. I'm just their colleague."The police officer didn't buy it. His voice was sharp. "Cut the excuses. You're all coming with us for questioning."Jenny clutched Andrew's arm. "Dr. Fletcher, you have to do something!"Andrew stepped in front of her, pointing at me, his face twisted in frustration. "Clara! How can you be so cruel? I'm your husband, and you're trying to ruin me!"I couldn't help but laugh. "Husband? No. You're not my husband anymore. Remember? You signed the divorce papers. I signed them yesterday. All that's left is the certificate."Andrew's eyes widened as he finally remembered. His mind raced, and he quickly tried to backtrack. "Our hospital director can vouch for me! Clar

"If I find out you're lying, I'll kill you."They shoved me hard into the car and dragged me all the way to the hospital.Andrew marched straight to the morgue drawer belonging to the patient who had died on the table. The moment he saw his mother's name on the tag, the color drained from his face."This is fake… It has to be fake," he muttered to himself. He barked at the staff to open the drawer so he could see for himself. As the drawer slid out inch by inch, Andrew's breathing stalled. His hand trembled as he reached for the body bag.But before he could unzip it, a security guard rushed into the morgue, breathless. "Dr. Fletcher, the police just arrived at the hospital. They said they're here for you."I couldn't stop my lips from curling upward. The reason I made Andrew come to the morgue wasn't that I needed him to confirm the body. It was to buy time. I needed a window to call the police. The hospital director and all our colleagues would side with him and Jenny. The p

Andrew instinctively reached for the scattered medical records. The moment he saw his mother's name, panic flickered across his face.Jenny glanced over, let out a sharp little laugh, and shook her head."You're a doctor. Faking medical records is the easiest thing in the world. Too bad for you that Dr. Fletcher and I are doctors too. You really thought this cheap trick would fool us? Even if you're desperate to keep your marriage, you shouldn't joke about Dr. Fletcher's mother. Making up her death? That's sick."The panic on Andrew's face snapped into fury.He stormed over and slapped me hard again and again. "Clara, what the hell is wrong with you? My mom has treated you like her own daughter, and you curse her like this?"I caught his wrist, breath shaking. "Did you even go to the hospital—"Before I could finish, Jenny drove her foot into my stomach, knocking me to the floor."Dr. Fletcher, let me teach her a lesson. If Dr. Winters dares to use your mom as leverage, who know
