Miya was still a bit shocked about everything as she and Chris silently walked down the hallway.
“Are you okay?” Chris asked with his eyes focused on her.
“Umm?” She mumbled confusingly before looking up at him.
Miya could see the concern in his eyes, and that brought her out of her thoughts. She then softly smiled at Chris for a second and said, “Yes. I have come across a lot of broken people, but I have never seen so much hurt in someone's eyes before like your friend. He looked so destroyed.”
“Yeah, neither have I. That's why I don't mess around with love,” Chris mumbled.
“You have never been in love before?”
“Nope.
When Steven arrived at Jackson's room, he met Rose and the others in tears. However, he paid no mind to them as he rushed for the door, but Chris pulled him back."What are you doing? Let me go!" Steven shouted while struggling to get his hand out of Chris's grip."You can't go in there, and you know it." Chris calmly said, releasing his fingers from around Steven's hand. There was hesitation in his worried eyes for a second. Then he sluggishly walked over to the glass window and sadly gazed at the bunch of doctors and nurses, standing over Jackson."Why are they putting those things back on him?" Steven whispered with his hands pressed flat on the glass."He needs to get back on life support, son," Rose said as she stood beside him. When her sight rested on Jackson being put on oxygen, Rose covered her mouth tightly with her hand to stop herself from crying out loud. The hallway got awf
The moment Steven got home, the first place he went was the bar. But when he set his sight on the wine bottles, he froze, barely able to move his legs or exhale the air that he had been suppressing in his lungs. It has been months since Jackson got involved in the accident, and Steven had restrained his every desire to have alcohol because of that unfaithful day.But now, he felt his willpower weakening with every second he spent staring at those shelves until he completely lost to his cravings.Pushing aside every logical reason that his head was giving him to avoid those bottles, the pain ripping through his heart made it difficult for Steven to listen to reasoning. As the evening sky slowly became a bit darker, Joe walked in on Steven with a half-full wine bottle and an empty glass.“Sir, I think that's enough alcohol for now,” Joe said while staring at his boss with concern in his eyes.Steven was about to reply when the doorbell rang. So he s
Oh, it is raining.” Steven mumbled as he sat in the backseat of the vehicle, staring at the raindrops trailing down the window glass.“Did you say something, sir?” Joe asked while striving to focus on the road as he gave his attention to his boss.As Steven’s eyes swayed away from the window, he let out a sigh and said, “This scene seems too familiar.”The confusion in Joe's expression quickly shifted into pity as he gave a glance into the V-mirror and saw the misery on his boss’s face.“Do you think she will be able to forgive me?” Steven said while staring at his employee’s face through the V-mirror.“I don't know, sir.” Joe slowly replied, choosing his words carefully. The car grew awfully silent and it stayed that way until they got to the Harper's bakeshop. Then Steven rushed out of the car, ran under the heavy rain towards the bakery, and knocked on the door.“Bang!”“Bang!”“Julie, can we talk!” Steven shouted as
The light in the room looked a bit blurry for a while until Jackson's eyes could completely adjust to the brightness from the bulb. Then he turned his head to the right and stared in shock at Steven sleeping in an uncomfortable position.“Hey man, wake up.” Jackson softly said while tapping Steven a bit on the back of his hand.It took a few more gentle hits for Steven to finally open his eyes. Then he sat back in the chair and did some awkward stretching before letting out a loud yum.“Your eyes,” Jackson mumbled beneath his breath with worry in his voice.“What about them?” Steven absentmindedly asked while slightly rubbing his eyelid.“They are puffy and red. You've been crying, haven't you?”“What! No! Of course not!”As those words rolled out of Steven's lips, he could tell from Jackson's doubtful expression that he wasn't buying it, and even Steven was not convinced by his response.“Why?” Jackson calmly said, and
“Knock, knock…” Chris called out as he stood at the room door. For a moment, Jackson blankly stared at the wall. Then he slowly turned his head and said, “Come in,” while staring back at Chris and the file in his hand. After shutting the door behind him, Chris walked over to Jackson, pulled a chair closer to the bed, and sat down.“How are you feeling?” Chris asked.“Thanks for the concern, but I am sick of such questions. Let's talk business.” Jackson responded.A brief laugh escaped Chris's lip. Then he took some papers out of the file and lay them out on the table beside the bed frame. Afterward, he brought out a pen from in his pocket and handed it over to Jackson. It took a while for both of them to go through the documents, and after countless back and forth discussions, Jackson finally wrote his signature on the line at the bottom of each page.“It's nice doing business with you, partner.” Chris said with satisfaction on his face.
Jackson's fingers grabbed onto the bed sheets as his hand folded into a tight fist. He then raised his eyebrows as he coldly stared in the direction of the doorway.“What are you doing here, Leon?” Jackson calmly said, and yet his tone bore aggression.“To see you,” Leon replied with a carefree attitude.“We are not that close, so cut to the chase and tell me why you thought it necessary to visit the man whose wife you slept with.”“Well, I wanted to know how serious your condition was for Julie to abandon her son for months.”“Well, you can leave since it’s clear that my condition has nothing to do with Julie staying away from you. Oh, and next time, how about you call her instead of repeating today, okay?”Although both men's tone sounded mutual, they were far from calm, and the rage burning in their eyes only seemed to intensify by the second.“From the disgust
The building of Tech and Knowledge maintained its silence as its employees went about with their work. The moment Julie walked out of her office with a bunch of documents in her hands, she was greeted with a cheerful smile as Kate waved to her and asked, “Heading to the boss's office?”“Yep,” Julie replied, hiding her frustration behind the friendly smile on her lips.“That is a lot of papers. Can I help?”“Thanks, but nah. I got this.”The disappointment on Kate's face made Julie feel a bit terrible about her reply. But she had her reason, so she overlooked the trouble feeling in her chest and continued walking, leaving Kate behind. When Julie got to Steven's office, she stood at the door and took in a deep breath before knocking.“Come in,” Steven called out without taking his eyes off the documents in front of him.The door opened, and Julie walked inside. Then she approached the desk and banged the folders on it.
Within a year time, nothing had really changed inside of Jackson's room, and he was still rigged up to all sorts of machines as he laid on sterile white sheets and covered with a pale blue blanket.“I know that you can hear me because every time I tell you about your kids, you move. So why do you refuse to wake up?” Chris asked without taking his sight off Jackson. When he got no response, he breathed a sign of misery, one he had been holding in since he first arrived. Then Chris's fingers tapped the table in unison with the rhythm of his feet as his bright eyes surveyed the room, knowing that he was slowly giving up on hope since so far his plan didn’t seem to be working on Jackson.Even though Chris understood that an important task had been placed on his shoulders to keep Jackson up-to-date with the latest news about Miya and the kids, he felt overwhelmed by it all.All heads turned to the right when they heard the sound of a male shoe stepping on th
