We walked out of class together “What class do you have next?” Jen asked once we got out of the classroom.
“Um...” I look at my class schedule “I’ve got Earth Science next.”“Perfect I’ve got that too is it with Miss. Dawson?” she asks, and I look back at my schedule and nod looking at the name of the teacher. “Even better we can go together,” Jen says as she links her arm through mine and leads us to our lockers before heading to class. We talk all the way to our lockers to grab our books and talk all the way to class. If we didn’t know any better, you could say we’ve been friends our entire lives. We got to class and sat together to only hear the voices from the hall before first period and now I know the names to go with the voices coming from behind us.“I can’t believe your sister is befriending the new girl” I heard what Candace was saying so me and Jen looked at each other and Jen rolls her eyes.“Candace just leave them alone it’s up to Jen who she hangs out with you know she has her own mind” I heard Chase tell I believe his girlfriend both Jen and I looked surprised to hear him say that.We sat through the lesson taking notes and comparing notes while trying to not pay attention to the snickering and the mumbling from the happy couple sitting behind us. Earth Science felt like the quickest lesson so far today, before I knew it the bell was ringing signaling the end of the lesson. After Earth Science me and Jen went our separate ways for our next period, but we arranged to meet up for lunch. I headed off for Home Economics on the other end of this side of the building.Once in Home Ec, I noticed everyone in class are standing round the pre heated stoves with aprons on. Seems like I will be cooking in this class today this will be fun. I find myself an apron and get myself set up at a station just in time for the teacher to start class. “Right, everyone I see we’re all set today we are baking bunt cake so let’s get started.”Bunt cake! Brilliant I can bake this with my eyes closed thanks to mom showing me how to bake it when I was a little girl because it’s my dad’s favorite dessert. “Can you bake this cake?” a Latin American voice asks beside me. I look at the person standing next to me to see a natural beauty, long black hair and dark chocolate eyes, and a skin tone I could be jealous of.“Oh, um... yeah, I can.” “Oh, thank you” she hugs me “You are my life saver I can cook no problem, but baking I cause a fire,” We both laugh I offer her my hand.“I’m Savannah and I’m happy to help” She takes my hand and shakes it.“I’m Selena it’s nice to meet you.”“Selena by any chance are you named after that singer from Texas?” she looks at me stunned. “Yeah, how do you know about her not many non-Hispanic knows of her music.”“I’ve heard a few of her songs I love music and I can play; I’m learning how to play every genre of music.”As Selena looks at me, I swear her eyes have gotten bigger “Wow that’s increíble I’ve gotta hear you play sometime.” I nod “Yeah that’ll be great I’d love to.” As the lesson went on Selena and I baked a lovely bunt cake, and our teacher Mrs. Saunders was incredibly pleased with our cake. After we finished the clean up the bell rang for lunch.“What are your plans for lunch?” Selena asks me as we walk out of the classroom.“I’m meeting up with Jen you’re more than welcome to join us if you like?” Selena stops and looks at me.“Jen as in Jennifer Lockwood?”That surname! Why does it sound so familiar? But I can’t think why. “I don’t know if it’s the same person but come with and find out.” We follow in step with each other heading for the cafeteria ‘cause man I could eat a horse with how hungry I am. We grab our lunches and go searching for Jen.We found Jen sitting at a table near the fountain in the school quad. Jen notices me and Selena and she waves us over. When we get to the table and put our trays down Chase came over to us “Hello ladies” and he smiles at all of us, but I noticed he looked at me a little bit longer than the other girls. Jen rolls her eyes “What do you want ass hat.” Chase then shushes his sister “Not in front of company but anyway, mom wants us home straight after school today for some dinner party tonight.” Hearing what Chase just said I choke on my drink “I know you dick wad, Mom told me before I left this morning you were too busy with that bitch of yours Candace.” Jen snaps back at him and she rolls her eyes at him again that’s twice in the matter of minutes and Chase glares back at his sister. “Jen you can be a real bitch some days yourself, anyway you’ve never given her a chance” Just as Chase finished his discussion with his sister Candace comes waltzing over kissing him on the lips as J
I met up with Jen and Selena at the end of the day. We arranged to meet up just outside the school entrance by the time I got there both Jen and Selena were waiting and to my surprise, Chase was there too. Chase was talking to Jen about something I can’t hear what he is saying as I’m not close enough. As I approached them, he winked at me acknowledging my arrival, and took his leave. Watching him walk away my eyes never leaving him I ask Jen “He didn’t leave because of me, did he?” She looks at her departing brother walking further away. “Oh no he just came to tell me to tell my mom he’s got an emergency football practice, so he’ll be home later.” I feel relieved and disappointed that he’s gone these feelings are so confusing I have never had them over a guy before and I’m intrigued to find out what they mean. I bite my bottom lip watching Chase disappear from our sight and the girls notice what I’m doing. “You like him, don’t you?” Jen questions I go crimson feeling put on the
Wait a minute how did he know about my music? “Of course, sir I’m sure I can arrange something for tonight.” “That’s my daughter for you Stuart she lives for her music, she couldn’t put a guitar down since the age of three." He walks out of his office and stands by his boss oh, great trust my dad to embarrass me now. “Is there a particular song you would like to hear Mr. Lockwood?” Dad's boss thinks for a quick second “Could you play ‘Stand by Me’ by Ben E. King that’s my wife and I’s wedding song.” “Certainly, sir that was the first song I ever learned how to play it would be an honor.” “Let’s keep it between us three for now I would love to surprise my wife with it,” Dad comes and stands next to me and squeezes me into his side. “Yes, sir not a word until tonight.” Dad shakes his boss’ hand “Until tonight, Maxwell.” “Yes, we’re looking forward to it” and then Mr. Lockwood left our house. Sitting down and talking to my dad at the kitchen counter for half an hour abo
Chase P.O.V The emergency practice coach called for after school today turned out to be a restoration, where we had to watch tapes and run some drills for a couple of new plays coach thought of. Practice overran by forty-five minutes thanks to a couple of fuckers on defense were fucking about. Today is not the day for all this shit. Candace almost getting on my last nerve being so possessive today for no reason and with this emergency practice and now it’s overrunning. Come on man! I have somewhere I have to be, or my mom will kill me. After practice I opt out of having a shower in the locker room, I’ll have it at home it’ll be quicker. Jumping in my car I speed off home so I can get ready for this dinner party my parents insisted on having. I have arrived home with not much time to spare but I’ll be ready when I gotta be. Pulling into the double garage my dad got built for Jen and me for when we passed our driver’s tests. I beat her by four points but who’s counting? Parking my
Savannah P.O.V I stand in front of Chase and Jen in total shock. Chase's eyes look three times bigger than they normally are. “You!” “Nice to see you again Chase I hope your practice wasn’t so much of a bother for you with our visit tonight,” I offer him my hand to shake. He clears his throat and takes my hand, raising it to his lips kissing the back of my hand softly making my cheeks feel warm and the butterflies start flapping uncontrollably around in my stomach. “Your presence here tonight has made up for how my practice went and may I say, you look absolutely beautiful tonight I love that color green on you.” I smile at him for his compliment now realizing where the green looks familiar. His eyes. “Thank you, Chase, that’s very sweet of you,” He doesn’t let go of my hand straight away he just stands there and looks at me. Mr. Lockwood clears his throat as Dad stares at Chase feeling all eyes are on us Chase lets go of my hand as I go and hug Jen. “I take it you guys h
We continue with some talk about what has been going on in school when someone announced to the room “Dinner is served if you would follow me to the dining room.” The two of us stood up from the couch waiting to be led into the dining room. I see Mr. Lockwood offer his arm to his wife and Dad comes over and offers his arm to Jen “Miss. Lockwood, may I please have the honor to accompany you to dinner?” Jen smiles and takes Dad’s arm as he winks at me. “Thank you Mr. Blakemore I would love to” Jen is guided by my father to dinner, and I follow behind when a hand grabs my arm stopping me in my tracks and I turn around to look at Chase. “Savannah, I know we started off on the wrong foot in History class and I’m sorry about that.” I pull my arm out of his grasp "Chase look what happened in History class was just an obvious misunderstanding it’s what your girlfriend has been saying about me all day I am not so forgiving.” “I can’t apologize for Candace’s behavior, but I can for mi
I can never refuse a chocolate brownie that is my kryptonite in a dessert. “Oh, this looks amazing my compliments to the chef everything has been fantastic did I tell you that brownies are one of my favorites and Savannah’s absolute favorite dessert,” Dad chimes in as I have seen him talking business all night. With what happens next, I think someone has been trying to find out more about me without asking me. That’s not a good look in a guy from my experience. “Thank you for sharing that with us Mr. Blakemore Sir may I ask would Savannah do anything if get given a chocolate brownie?” I elbow Chase in the rib with what he’s just asked my father hearing “oomph” to come out of him I know I got him good. “Well Chase son it all depends; may I ask what for example?” “If I give your daughter a brownie, would I be forgiven for the mistakes I have made to her today?” I cover my face as I feel so embarrassed with this conversation. “I’m certain that if you give her brownies with a pi
Chase P.O.V Sitting next to Jen hearing my parents talk about how they met in college and then started talking about their wedding day. We have heard this story plenty of times in our youth I do not know why they must keep telling it to us. Jen and I are twins, and we can recite their story me playing dad and Jen playing mom. Back when we were kids, we performed their wedding to them one Christmas and I swear that was probably the best gift we could have ever given to our mom. Dad brushed his nose with his finger for some strange reason and then everything clicked into place. Because my eyes have never left Savannah’s since she’s been in my house, I am captivated by her. She stands up and starts walking towards my dad’s guitar how she could tell the difference between my dad’s and mine is a mystery. What is she doing I don’t know but I'm intrigued to find out? She straps the guitar over her shoulder and starts playing a song, and it’s a song I know how to play too. But when she s
