MasukIsabelle’s POVChloe’s voice chirped through the speaker the moment I picked up.“Isabelle. Are you insane? Where have you been? It’s been almost two days since I last saw you. You didn’t even come home or call me. You’ve been unreachable this whole time.”“Chloe,” I said calmly. “Where are you?”“Going to work,” she answered. On the other end, I heard the sound of lights being switched off. “I’ll see you when you're back. I have something to tell you.”“Okay.. ” she trailed. “But are you safe?”“Yes”. I replied. “Then I'll wait for you”.At evening, the old servant came back downstairs and found me in the sitting room, pacing around.“Miss, why aren't you resting in your room?” she asked.“I’m fine.” I gave her a weak smile. “Dinner is almost ready”. She announced.“But can I go home once I’m done with dinner?”“I don’t know.” She looked at me skeptically. “Why not wait for the boss to come back? He rarely comes home, but with you around, I bet he won't stay away for long today.”
Isabelle's POVI woke up to the soft rustling of curtains and the faint sound of footsteps outside the room.I tried to stand up, and the dull ache of my body reminded me that I hadn't quite recovered from everything i had gone through. I rested a hand over my stomach, remembering the doctor's words as I tried to reassured myself. My baby was fine. And that was all that mattered.I slowly pushed myself up against the pillows, my eyes wandering to the bedside post.My phone. I had lost it that night. I had no money to buy another one even if I wanted to. Guess I'll have to remain like that for now.And as for Chloe, I wondered how many times she'd tried to reach me. She must have been worried, especially after I didn't return home for two consecutive days.“Miss Hart?” A maid pushed the door open. “You're awake”. Her smile was polite."Good morning, miss.""Good morning.""I hope you slept well.""Much better than yesterday.""I'm glad to hear that. Mr. Prescott asked us to make sure
Donavin’s POVThere was too much to look into, and too many questions I needed answers to.By the time Kai walked into my study, I had gone through the same document over and over again.“Sir, we've confirmed the bus was rented through a shell account.”“Were you able to find out who actually did it?”“We're still tracing the account, but the details were deliberately hidden. So it might need a bit more time.”“Okay”. I rubbed my temples. “Anything from the man Marcus caught?”“He's still claiming he doesn't know who hired him. He said he received instructions through an intermediary and was paid to take the woman. And he was simply doing his job.”“How about the person who hired him?”“He claims the person who did was wearing a mask so he couldn't identify him.”“Keep working on it” I said. “We need to find everything.” Even though I was now able to narrow everything down do one path, which was city center, I still needed solid evidence.“Yes, sir.” He responded, and left. I sat th
Isabelle’s POVThe moment I crawled out of the tall plants, I saw him.Donavin. I stared at him, unable to believe he was actually the one standing there. My face was covered in dirt, my clothes were a mess, and I could barely keep myself upright. But none of that mattered anymore.I didn't know what came over me. The moment our eyes met, I burst into tears.“Donavin!” I ran towards him and threw my arms around his neck.A sob escaped me as I buried my face against his chest. I hadn't realised how frightened I was until then. I had spent what felt like forever running, hiding, and wondering if I would ever get out of those woods. And now,it felt like my desperate prayers were answered. He had come to save me!Donavin didn't move at first. His body went completely stiff, and for a moment, I wondered if I had done something wrong. But I couldn't bring myself to let him go.Then, slowly, one of his arms came around my back like he was afraid to touch me and didn't know where to put his
Donavin's POVMy phone screen lit up, showing a message from an unknown number. In the photo, Isabelle was tied up close to a dirty matress on the floor, leaning against the dirty paint of a wall. She whipped her head to the side, her disheveled blonde hair covering her face. But I still noticed the red scars of the rope that bounded her wrists. My jaw tightened, fists clenched, and I felt the veins at the back of my hands about to snap.Every single one of them involved in this, has to pay the price. I would make sure they never walk away unscathed.Right under the photo, was a message typed in a single, cold line. ‘Stop the IVF investigation and she walks home right away’."Sir, I think we've found something." Kai rushed into the office at that exact moment."What is it?""The bus from the recording. We were able to trace it down to a privately registered bus belonging to a logistics company."Marcus, who came in behind him added, "We are actually thinking it is the same one".Kai
Isabelle's POV I had no idea how long I had been sitting on the floor. But I had spend the night being tied up like this. My wrists hurt, and my mouth was so dry that even swallowing became uncomfortable. I moved against the wall, trying to find a position that wouldn't make the pain worse. Still, no matter what I did, it was useless. The room was small and poorly furnished. There was a narrow mattress in one corner, a plastic chair and a bucket beside the wall. Aside from those, nothing else. I tried to search the room as much as the restraints allowed me, hoping to find something I could use to free myself. I couldn't find any. So I tried pulling the rope again. "Come on," I whispered silently, biting down hard on my lips as I twisted my wrists. "Please.. just come undone." But no matter how much I tried, the knot remained firmly in place. I let out a frustrated sigh and rested my head on the wall. I couldn't keep doing this. My hands were becoming sore, and my fing
