Lyra's POV

The first thing I felt was pain. A deep, twisting ache blooming low in my stomach, pulsing with each breath. The second thing was cold. It came from the icy sheets beneath me, like a faint draft brushing my bare arms. It seeped into my bones and what not, and for a quick second, I deliberated wanting something warm. But where the hell was I going to get that?

Like I wasn't already going through it all, something else caught my attention. voices.

They were soft, and while that didn't exactly scream danger, the urgency and the fact that they were whispering told an entirely different story.

What the hell was going on?

“She still doesn’t know…” the first voice reached my ears, pulling me out of my thoughts almost immediately.

“Someone has to tell her eventually.” another one followed.

“What will he do with a child….” I heard the third person speak, but the moment she mention the word ‘child’, I almost lost it.

A child?

My eyes snapped open then. The ceiling spun abo

  • A night with my ex-husband’s step brother    Chapter 183

Lyra's POV I had known fear before, I had known pain before, but nothing, absolutely nothing, prepared me for the moment my body tightened around a burning ache and I collapsed in Ava’s kitchen.I had gone to visit her since that had been my routine in the last couple of months. Xavier hadn't fully forgiven her yet, but at this point, I liked to think it was safe to say that the relationship between them was slowly coming together. I didn't mind playing the role of an intermediary between them because just as I was trying my best to reconcile Xavier with his mother, I was actually enjoying the woman's company. One moment I was laughing with her, sipping tea, feeling Xavier’s warmth lingering from the morning kiss he’d pressed to my forehead before heading out for his Alpha duties, and the next, the cup fell from my hand, shattered, and a sharp, twisting agony tore through me like claws dragging through my womb.“Ava…” I gasped, grabbing the edge of the table. “Ava, something’s w

Xavier’s POV I never believed redemption was a real thing. At least not for men like me. I didn't believe it was for men shaped out of abandonment, violence, and rage, nor for a creature who clawed his crown out of the ashes of those who wronged him.But when Lyra had stood there in my mother's cabin all these weeks ago, bloody, shaking, terrified, and still whispered the words “Let me stand by you. Let me love you.” it had bromen me beyond compare. A single sentence, and the world I knew cracked down the middle. Since the night she confessed, something had shifted in me, slowly and painfully, like thaw breaking in the heart of winter. I didn’t trust it at first, didn’t trust myself. But Lyra she believed.Every time she touched her belly, every time she looked at me without fear, every time she said my name like it wasn’t something cursed, and as crazy as it sounded, I felt myself changing. And so, for the first time in my life, I forced myself to face the one thing I had alwa

Xander's POV I wasn’t supposed to hear her voice, not like this, not in that tone, and definitely not saying those words. But fate was cruel, and apparently so was the universe, because I reached the clearing at the exact moment her voice cracked through the open doorway of the small wooden house.I didn't want to believe it, but with how Much those words had echoed in my ears the moment I heard them, I liked to think it was hard to ever forget them. For the next couple of seconds, everything around me seemed to come to a halt. My breathing stopped and with each passing second, I could swear I felt my body shutting down. Did I really come all the way here for this? Did I really really murder that guard after he'd told me gave Intel to Xavier as well? Just to see this? A million and one thoughts ran through my head all at once, but apparently, it was nothing for my body. My boots froze mid-step as I listened even closer. “…whatever you choose, I’ll stand by you.”Her voice trem

Xavier’s POV The forest went silent the moment I stepped into the clearing, and I wasn't sure how i felt about that. On one hand, it was almost poetic. The forest bowing because they recognized my power and what not, and on the other hand, I couldn't help but feel like the quietness around me signaled something else. Danger, maybe., but not to me.I shook the thought away before it could fester into something else. I'd literally walked through the eye of the needle, just to get here and the last thing I wanted would be for me to realize I was too late. This village, settlement or whatever would burn. That's for sure. A small sigh slid past my lips as I pushed the thoughts out of my head again. This time, and like a child clinging to its mother, I felt the air around me become quiet immediately. Well, not quiet, but almost silent.Like the trees themselves had stopped breathing, like the world folded in on itself, bracing for something it already knew was coming. My boots sank in

  • A night with my ex-husband’s step brother    Chapter 179

Xander's POV I had spent months believing the worst was behind me, but alas It wasn’t. Hell, this was only the beginning, and if there was one emotion that seemed to be dominant in the rest of my body, then it had to be anger. Anger amongst many other things. Growing up, I'd been a lucky child, as people liked to term me. While a couple of people felt I truly deserved only the best things in the world, not everyone agreed with that thought process. Did that bother me though? Not one bit. In fact, I didn't care about a lot of things unless it was affecting me negatively. I used to think I didn't have a single bad luck bone in my body, but in the last couple of months, things had switched up so bad I didn't even see it coming at all. Right now, if someone were to whisper in my ears that I was cursed, best believe I would do anything to make sure I shook that black shadow away from me. I'd gone through many things, but what hurt the most, was the fact that the throne I was raised t

Lyra's POV I didn’t sleep the night Ava told me the truth, and if I was being honest, I wasn't sure anybody was going to blame me. How could I? How was I supposed to?Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Xavier as a child, small, thin, wrapped in a blanket and left beside a riverbank with nothing but the hope that someone better would find him.“I thought I was saving him…” Ava’s voice replayed in my head like a wound I couldn’t stitch shut. “I thought someone stronger would care for him.”I must have repeated those words a hundred times since that night, but they didn’t sit right. Nothing about that story sat right.Days passed, but the shock didn’t fade. It clung to me like a second skin. Every chore I did, every step I took, every glance at the forest line, and Xavier’s past hovered over me like a ghost. And now, everything made sense. The rage, his cruelty, his coldness, and his terrifying loyalty to his rogue clan. Yes, he didn't always agree with them, but deep down I knew h
