ログインGwen POV
His words left me stunned.
I had not thought that Damon could have security access in his absence, but maybe he was right because when I locked myself inside the restroom to check my appearance before going back to the after-wedding party, my phone buzzed with a message from an unknown number.
Instinctively, I knew it was Damon.
“I am sorry, love. I did not intend to leave you at the altar. Please wait for me.”
Tears blurred my eyes at the proof that Damon never planned to abandon me. He did not change his mind. It is not why he left me.
My chest tightened because I finally had assurance.
Damon is alright. He was coming back to me.
I don’t care why he suddenly ran off. I know that he had strong reasons to do that. All I wanted was an assurance that he was safe.
Quickly, just as the message instructed, I deleted it from my inbox and returned to the party.
Damian smiled when he saw me at the entryway. Then, he raised his glass to give a toast to me.
It was unexpected. It was not part of the program, but it was for keeping up appearances. I saw the approving nod coming from our coordinator and felt a little calmer.
From that moment onwards. It was as if we had a silent agreement. We both acted like normal newlyweds until the last of the guests bid their goodbyes.
After the party, the Cadillac that Damon owned sent us to the mansion I was occupying.
It was already planned that way. Damon and I will defer our honeymoon to next month after he wraps up his work.
When the limousine stopped, I began to move.
I got out of the car without waiting for Damian.
It took me a Herculean effort because the gown proved tricky. I even heard the low chuckle that he was trying to stifle unsuccessfully when he realized my predicament.
I was not expecting Damian to help me, nor did he offer. He just watched me struggling.
When I disentangled the long hem of my gown, I quickly marched into the house.
Damian was tailing right behind me.
I was about to go to the master’s bedroom when Damian stopped.
“What?” I asked with undisguised annoyance lacing my voice.
I stopped in my tracks, but I did not bother to turn around to face him.
To my surprise, I felt him grab my arm and very neatly handed me a small rectangular card.
I looked down to see what it was.
Disgust filled me when I realized it was the business card of Genna Black, who sits as the head of the HR Department of the Olson Hotels. She is also the bridesmaid that Damian was canoodling with in the garden.
“What do I need this for?”
Damian shrugged.
“Report to her tomorrow. You need to have a job.”
I don’t understand what he was doing. He came around unbidden, pretended to be Damon, and married me. Now he was changing everything. Damon and I planned for our lives.
“What? Damon wanted a stay-at-home wife, not a working wife.”
He grinned and leaned his right shoulder casually on the door jamb as if this were ordinary talk to him. When he was talking about taking charge of my life.
“He was not here. I was. So, you do what I f*cking says.”
My nails are digging right into my palm as I try to control my temper. I have only known Damian Olson for a few hours, but he was able to infuriate me to the size of a lifetime.
I flat-out said no. My voice trembled in rage.
Damian Olson may be Damon’s twin brother, but he was not Damon. He can’t change the rules around here. I told him.
“Don’t tempt me, princess. You need to pay for your upkeep. Damon was not here, so I am going to make the rules from now on.”
My chest heaves. And before I could think about the consequences of my actions, my hand flew to land on his cheek, slapping him hard.
As expected, Damian retaliated. He grabbed me by the waist and pulled me hard toward him.
His action took me by surprise. I lost balance and grabbed hold of his arms.
This allowed my breath to press into the hard wall of his chest, making my heart pound fast in a mixture of anger, resentment… and excitement?
My brows furrowed in confusion. What is happening to me?
“Okay, if you want to stay at home, you can. But you have to work for me.” Damian’s voice cut through my murky thoughts.
My eyes narrowed in suspicion. I did not like the way he sounded - low and flirty.
“Doing what?” I asked, sounding doubtful.
He leaned his face close to my ear, his hot breath fanning my skin.
“You can always warm my bed.”
I was appalled at the mere suggestion.
The audacity of the man!
Again, my hand lifted, but he was quicker this time, anticipating my mood. He took control of my hand while snaking his arm around my waist, causing my breath to hitch.
Eyes wide in shock, anger fueled my actions.
We struggled for a while, but I know that fighting back would be futile. Damian Olson is someone I did not know. He was in uncharted territory.
And I do not trust him.
“I am not a w*ore!” I hissed.
He looked dubious for a moment.
His expression infuriated me.
“Why not? You exchanged personal comfort for freedom.”
“That’s not true.” I denied hotly.
I shook my head, but Damian was not finished hurling accusation after accusation toward me.
“Let’s be frank here. My brother was nice enough to offer marriage, but what is marriage really? A contract of servitude so he can gain access to your body with a license?”
His tone was mocking as he trampled on my dignity.
“I am not a w*ore!” Again, I repeated the word to stamp it into his head.
“Then, prove it. You are not a free loader. You need to pay for your upkeep. Report to Genna Black tomorrow and go back to working at the Olson Hotel.”
I watched his departing back and made a decision for myself.
I cannot stay here.
Gwen POVI got out of the elevator, ready to turn in my resignation letter for Mrs. Lucerne’s signature, but before I could round the corner, someone grabbed my arm again. This time, I was more composed—much more than the first time. I did not feel any warmth from the hold, and that made all the difference. When I looked back, I was surprised to see Monique's sneering face.“You really are a shameless b*tch! You put every guy you know on a string and control them.” She hissed.I tugged at my hand forcefully. Monique won’t let go, so what I did was wait for her to pull my arm toward her and stop resisting. That way, she lost all control. She landed on her butt on the floor. She cried, and it attracted the attention of several people.I think it was more from embarrassment than feeling any pain. She had a thick butt. It can cushion her from falling. But the pain to her pride was another thing. Several doors opened, and they all got out to see what had happened.Even Jo and Nick were
Gwen POV“Are you sure?”Baron did not leave his place. He was not even looking at me, but the way he worded his question made me pause.Slowly, I nodded my head. Even if I am not sure, I told him that I was.‘Yes.”Baron was staring at me. I could feel the weight of his stare. He was watching my reaction. My nails sank into the skin of my palms while I struggled to keep my facial reaction neutral.Baron stayed where he was. There was a pregnant silence between us. One that I was afraid to cut through. In truth, I wanted to ask him about Damian, but I restrained myself. “Even if every fiber of my being screams it, I did not do anything.I just stood there awkwardly, waiting for Baron. We heard the click of the door unlocking, and Baron moved. He left the edge of the table to stand, just as the door swung open and out came Mason. At first, I did not know what to do. Should I hide myself, knowing that I will find Damian’s figure behind Mason’s? Even the sound of his footsteps was unmist
Gwen POVI woke up and looked at my suitcase, which was positioned near the wall.Last night, after sending my resignation letter to Damian’s email address, I began to pack my things. It was not hard considering that I do not have that much possession. Some essentials and important documents. My plan is to report to work today to process my resignation with HR. From there, I will return to the apartment to get my things.I had no concrete plans yet about my new living arrangements, but I was determined to find a new home by the end of the day.It was not only because I felt ashamed of overstaying, but it was also more because I was afraid of Damon showing up unannounced again. It was not pride. It was more of self-preservation.Baron and Mason took him away yesterday, but what if he decided to come back?Last night, I was so lucky. Damian and his friends saved me.When Damian left, I locked all the doors, but I only slept lightly. Every time I hear a sound, my body is on full-mode ale
Damian POVFor the first time, I saw fear crawling through my twin’s face when he realized that nothing could save him now. Not even me.“What do you mean? You are my brother. My twin. You are supposed to save me.” His voice faltered, and the expression on his face wavered.Maybe, for the first time, he realized the gravity of his action.I did not respond. I let the realization sink in on his head. When Damon realized I was turning away, he tried to escape, his cuffs rattling as he forced his wrists.“You are useless, Damian. You can not even save me. Wait till grandpa and our parents hear about this.”I looked at my brother sadly. All my life, he had threatened and used our parents as a way to force me to do his bidding. Most of the time, I walked away. Sometimes, I give in to the pressure. But after seeing that the feeling of entitlement is slowly ruining him as a person, I realized I had to put a stop to his madness.Damon must know that he can’t get everything he wants. Not all t
Damian POVAfter getting out of Gwen’s apartment, I called Mason to ask them where they are.“Headquarters.”I was surprised, but I told Tucker to send me the chopper so I could follow them. After thirty minutes, it arrived at the rooftop of the Olson-owned apartment building. The door automatically opened and allowed me to see Baron piloting the chopper.I got in and immediately strapped myself to the seat next to him. Then, I pulled the specialized headset and heard Baron asking for clearance from air traffic control for take-off.After getting the nod, the chopper took off. I leaned back on my seat and watched, looking downwards to stare at the Roadster City and the apartment building where Gwen was currently staying. My chest was tight as our altitude increased. It was as if a massive boulder was pressing hard on it, rendering me breathless.Baron nudged me. He did not say anything because the noise made by the chopper wouldn’t allow us to talk. When the chopper landed on the roof
Gwen POVI mulled over Damian’s words and nodded after a while.“I will send in my resignation tomorrow,” I told him with finality in my voice.Damian nodded and walked in the direction of the room. There was no turning back at this point.Damian was a man of his word. He would do as I say.He would wait for me to submit my resignation tomorrow, and then he would approve it and send it to Mrs. Lucerne for immediate processing of my papers.“Damian,” I called out to him.He stopped, but he did not turn around to face me.“Are you going to change my mind? Would you prefer that I fire you?” He asked, misconstruing my reasons.Even when he was not seeing me, I shook my head no.It was for myself. To allow myself time to adjust and to gather my thoughts.“No. I just wanted to thank you. I know that you do not mean any harm. It was just that sometimes, even our best intentions can backfire on us.”He did not respond, but he showed no evidence that he was in a hurry to leave. So, I started
Gwen POVI was minding my business at my new home, familiarizing myself with the unit. While on it, I called Lou.“I miss you!”“I haven’t been gone for a day, and you already missed me?” I chuckled, but deep down, I missed her, too.Lou is my only friend back in Cadillac City, and I was not sure i
Gwen POVConfusion marred my face, as it scrunched up into a frown.I don’t get it. I seriously did not think that I heard him right.“You are what?”I didn't think this man would take me seriously. He never has. Even his grin seemed to annoy me.“I said I am your fetcher. Do you have a problem wit
Gwen POVBaron laughed, and to my surprise, he enfolded me into a bear hug like I was a long-lost friend. To think that we had only known each other for almost two weeks, and had not seen each other for a few days. But the familiarity in his actions brought an unexpected smile to my face, lighting
Gwen POVBaron got out of the car, opened the passenger side to retrieve my suitcase, and placed it on the curb.Damian, on the other hand, remained still. His hat still covered his face, and he was blocking my path.I hesitated.Baron saw my hesitation and acted on my behalf. He pushed Damian, alm
