CHAPTER FIVE

Adrian paced around his room, his thoughts returning to the events in the bathroom, what was his lycan thinking? She is the enemy, you don't kiss the enemy no matter how good it felt to have her in his arms, and what made it worse was that she made no effort to stop him from kissing her, further perplexing him.

He took his time getting his bearings before returning to check on his captive; he found her sitting in his chair, seemingly lost in thought. When he approached carefully, gently tapping her on the shoulder, she shrieked in fear before looking up and seeing he was the one, and relief washed over her, he decided to let her reaction slide this time but he would ask questions later.

"Would you like something to eat?" Adrian asked, watching her.

"You unnerve me," Serena said abruptly.

"How come?"Adrian inquired.

"You change your mood and behavior towards me every time we're together, you act nice, then act like you hate me, then your lycan touches me so intimately," Serena said, her cheeks flushing from her last statement.

"It's true, part of me hates you, part of me wants to be civil, and the other part is just fascinated by you," Adrian explained.

Serena murmured quietly, "oh."

"Oh, that's all you have to say," Adrian said, raising an eyebrow.

"I'm at a loss for words," Serena admitted.

"Hmm, let's just get you something to eat and I assure you that what happened before will not happen again," Adrian said as he rose from his seat and walked towards the door.

"You're leaving; aren't you afraid I'll try to flee again?" Serena inquired.

“We both know that won’t happen, you don’t want Shadow to take over again and this time I won't be able to stop him from doing whatever he wants to you” Adrian said as he left the room locking it behind him, he reheated the soup before taking it up to her. He walked in, her gaze never leaving him as he placed the tray of food on the bedside table beside her, but he paid no attention to her.

"Enjoy your meal, Serena; I'll be back to get the tray," Adrian said simply before exiting the room.

"Why don't you just let me go? I swear I won't tell anyone about you."

"That's not going to happen, Serena, so stop asking me to let you go, oh and call me Adrian." Adrian said this as he walked out the door, locking it behind him, leaving Serena alone in the dimly lit room with her thoughts.

Serena approached the door to see if it was locked, but he left it open, as if he was testing her. She walked out the door wearing nothing but the shirt Adrian had given her.

She walked down the hall quietly, approaching the door that was left open; it was another room similar to hers; she peered in and saw her captor with his back to her.

He stood there for a while before taking off his shirt, and Serena let out a gasp as she stared at his exposed body, his scars nothing compared to hers, before turning away, hoping he hadn't heard her.

Adrian turned towards the door after hearing a soft gasp; he could scent her coming from a mile away but did nothing because he wanted to see if she would run again, but she didn't and instead came looking for him.

He didn't care when he faced the door and saw her staring at his scarred body. His scars served as a reminder of how cruel the world could be.

Serena was frozen at being caught invading his privacy as he took steps towards his little hybrid prisoner. She watched him as he came to a halt a few feet away from her, the open door the only thing separating us.

"What are you doing out here, I thought I locked the door?" Adrian inquired, his gaze fixed on her.

"y—-you didn't, I swear I wasn't trying to run away, I just wanted to leave that room, I felt suffocated." Serena mumbled quietly.

"So you chose to intrude on my privacy instead?" " Adrian inquired, his brow furrowed.

"n—no, I'm sorry I wasn't spying," Serena said, trying not to stare at his scars, but she couldn't stop herself; they covered his entire body.

"Didn't your mother teach you that staring is impolite, Serena?" Adrian stared at her, his face emotionless.

"I'm sorry for staring; I'm leaving now," Serena said, turning to flee her intimidating captor.

"You can't run away now, Serena; you've come so far; why leave now?" " Adrian said as she drew her father into the room, closing the door behind her and pushing her against it. Serena unconsciously placed her small hands on his scarred chest while staring into his grey eyes.

"Serena, you really don't want to play this game with a man like me," Adrian said, pressing his body into hers, his lips against her ear as he gently bit on the upper lobe of her ear.

Serena let out a surprised gasp as he drew away and his eyes turned pure white again, indicating that Shadow was back.

"You can't run away from me, little one, I'm the beast mothers warn their children to avoid, he may be civil, but don't mistake his kindness for weakness, little one," Shadow leaned in, inhaling her honey-lemon scent.

Serena tried her hardest to break free from his grip, but he was too strong. "I want Adrian, please let him take over," Serena begged Shadow, hoping he would listen; for some reason, she prefers Adrian's cold demeanor to Shadow's unpredictable attitude.

"Now where is the fun in that, Adrian doesn't know how to have fun, but with me you're going to have the time of your life," Shadow said with a smirk on his face.

"Please just let Adrian take over," Serena asked again, his eyes as white as snow, he never told her exactly what he was, but she guessed that he was an Alba Lycan, because they all died a few centuries ago, she really didn’t know much about him.

"What could that pretty little head of yours be thinking about?" Shadow inquired, lifting his hands to caress her face as his graze scanned her face.

"You unsettled me every time we met; the first time we met, you tried to kill me, the second time you trapped me in the bathroom half naked and kissed me on the neck, and now you trapped me in your room again, what do you want from me?" Serena rushed out breathing heavily.

"I wonder too, I should hate you but something about you attracts me, I feel repulsed by it but I can't just stop myself, you scent is just too enthralling," Shadow said, repeating his previous action, leaning in to take in her scent but this time he placed a kiss on the nook of her neck, sucking on that part slowly. Serena felt his teeth bite down gently on the skin he was sucking on a small moan escaped her lips earning a growl from Shadow

Serena gasped in surprise and exclaimed, "What are you doing?"

"I've always wondered what you'd taste like, ever since I saw you in that little cage he put you in," Shadow said, pulling back to stare at the spot he had just kissed.

"What?" Serena exclaimed, her face surprised.

"And I've come to the conclusion that you do taste how you smell, like honey-lemon," Shadow replied huskily, his eyes changing from white to grey, indicating Adrian was struggling for control.

"I'll see you later, thank you for the taste; maybe next time I'll ask for something different," Shadow said before Adrian took control and Serena was now staring at his familiar grey eyes.

"What did he do to you, Serena?" Adrian demanded authoritatively.

"Nothing, I'm leaving now, sorry for snooping around, it won't happen again," Serena said as she tried to open the door, but Adrian pushed her against it, closing it.

"Don't test my patience, I'm not in the mood, so tell me what he did," Arian said menacingly.

Serena let out a frustrated sigh as she bared her neck to Adrian, showing him what Shadow had done to her so he could leave her alone. "Now that you know, can I leave, or will you still love to manhandle me?" Serena asked, staring into his eyes head on. Adrian brought his hands to her neck, softly touching the mark.

"I'm sorry," Adrian said before pulling away from her and opening the door for her to leave. Serena gave him a quick glance, but she swears she saw a hint of guilt in his eyes before it was replaced by his neutral expression.

She exited the room without saying anything and returned to her room. As Serena walked down the corridor, her thoughts returned to the moment with Shadow; part of her was scared, but the other part enjoyed the attention he was giving her. Serena sighed as she entered her room and closed the door behind her. She immediately went to bed, and all she could think about was her mysterious captor.
