Isabella’s POV

“That’s a lie.” Mom said it too quickly. Her voice cut through the hospital room and made everyone turn toward her at once.

Lila tilted her head slightly. “Then why are you panicking already?”

“I’m not panicking.”

“You grabbed the chair hard enough to almost tip it over.”

Mom looked down instinctively. Her fingers loosened immediately from the chairback. The metal legs scraped lightly against the tile floor. Tiny mistake. But enough.

Lucas noticed too. His shoulders tensed under

Her fingers loosened immediately from the chairback. The metal legs scraped lightly against the tile floor. Tiny mistake. But enough.Lucas noticed too. His shoulders tensed under his shirt and his eyes narrowed as he watched her. “What man?” he asked quietly.Lila kept her eyes on Blair. “Middle-aged. Grey suit. Claims he worked security for the fertility clinic years ago.”Marcus frowned instantly. “And security just let him upstairs?”“He didn’t come up,” Lila replied. “But he’s talking to reporters downstairs.”Claire went pale. Her face lost color under the fluorescent lights. “No.”Marcus already pulled out his phone again. He tapped the screen quickly, the glow li

Isabella’s POV “Turn it off.” My voice barely audible. It felt weak in my throat.Nobody moved at first. The television kept flashing the same image over and over again on the screen mounted on the wall. Camilla’s mouth against mine. My hands tangled in her hair. The angle made it look intimate enough to erase every possible excuse. Below the video, bold white letters stretched across the bottom: MAXWELL FAMILY SCANDAL DEEPENS.Claire found the remote on the small table. She pointed it at the screen and the television clicked black immediately. Too late, everybody had already seen it. The image stayed burned in the room even with the screen off.Lucas stood completely still beside the bed. His expression stayed unreadable now, his face blank and his shoulders set. That scared me more than anger would have. His hand still rested near mine on the blanket.Marcus swore quietly under his breath. “Who leaked that video?”“Video?” Claire repeated sharply, turning toward him.Marcus looke

Isabella’s POV “Call somebody!”Claire’s voice echoed through the room so loudly that the nurse who had just stepped out rushed back in right away. Her shoes squeaked against the tile floor as she moved quickly toward the bed.Marcus grabbed the edge of the blanket first, pulling it back slightly. “Jesus Christ.”Mom went white, her face lost all color as she stood there near the wall, one hand pressed against her chest.Camilla stopped moving entirely. She stood frozen in place, eyes fixed on the bed.I stared at the blood spreading beneath me and couldn’t process it. My brain refused to accept what I was seeing. The dark red stain kept growing slowly across the white hospital blanket and the sheet underneath.No. Not happening. Not real.Claire climbed onto the bed beside me immediately, her hands gripping my shoulders carefully but firmly. The mattress dipped under her weight. “Bella, look at me.”I couldn’t. My eyes stayed fixed downward. More blood, too much. It felt warm and we

Isabella’s POV “Don’t.” Claire reached for the phone immediately, but I pulled it back before she could take it. I held it tight in both hands, staring at the screen. The picture stayed frozen there. Lucas standing beside the black gates outside the hospital. Lila’s hand rested against his jaw. Her mouth pressed to his. His eyes were closed.Something inside me dropped so hard it physically hurt. A heavy, sharp ache settled deep in my chest, making it hard to pull in a full breath. My fingers felt numb around the edges of the phone.Marcus swore under his breath. “That’s staged.”I kept staring at it anyway. Staged or not, he had kissed her back. The image buried itself into my mind, every detail clear under the hospital lights.Claire took the phone carefully this time when my fingers loosened around it. “Bella, stop looking at it.”“What else did she send?” My voice sounded strange. Too calm, like it belonged to someone else.Claire frowned slightly at the screen. “There’s text und

Isabella’s POV “What article?” Claire reached Marcus first, snatching the phone out of his hand before he could answer. She held it close to her face, eyes moving quickly across the screen. The second her eyes scanned the words, all the color drained from her face. Her lips parted slightly, and her shoulders dropped. “Oh my God.” My stomach dropped fast. A heavy, sick feeling settled low in my belly. “Claire,” I said sharply. “What does it say?” She didn’t answer right away. She just kept staring at the phone, her fingers gripping it tighter. Marcus took the phone back gently from her hand. “Don’t freeze up now.” Claire looked sick, her skin pale under the fluorescent lights. “It’s bad.” “How bad?” Ethan asked from near the door. Marcus exhaled slowly through his nose, his chest rising and falling. He held the phone steady and started reading aloud. “Sources close to the Maxwell family claim a private hospital emergency involving Isabella Maxwell may be connected to long-

Isabella’s POV “She found out from who?” Claire’s asked quickly, cutting through the heavy tension building in the hospital room. Lucas still stared down at his phone, his thumb hovering over the screen. “She didn’t say.” “That’s not an answer,” Marcus snapped. “What exactly did the message say?” Lucas finally lifted his head. The overhead fluorescent lights cast harsh shadows across his face. “She said we need to talk before the press gets it.” The press. My stomach turned so violently I pressed my hand against it right away, fingers pressing into the thin hospital gown. The nausea sat heavy and sour at the back of my throat. Claire noticed immediately. “Bella…” “I’m fine.” “You keep saying that while looking like you’re about to collapse.” Mom moved closer to the bed, her steps slow and careful. But the second my body tensed up, she stopped. I saw the quick flash of hurt cross her face before she tried to hide it again, her lips pressing together tightly. Camilla’s eyes
