Fifty-Seven

Jasmine gently gained consciousness, she sat up, rubbing her eyes. Again, she looked at her mother and gently touched her hands.

“You didn't come to work to sleep beside your mom in the hospital?” Donovan’s voice sounded behind her and she flinched because she wasn't expecting it.

She turned and saw him leaning against the wall with his hands crossed around his chest. When Jasmine didn't respond to him and looked back at her mother, Donovan walked closer to her. Doctor Miles told him her mother’s health was deteriorating and she might not make it out of the coma. Perhaps he shouldn't have said that.

“Have you eaten?” He asked, standing next to her.

Jasmine gently looked at him, she shook her head. It was only when he mentioned food that she remembered that she hasn't eaten. Her stomach grumbled at the same time.

“Come, let's find something to eat. Unfortunately, I haven't eaten as well.”
