The sun's fading rays barely pierce through the dense canopy of branches above our car. We were now deep in the northern woods far beyond the borders of my territory.

Beside me, Tessa sat quietly, her gaze fixed out the window staring west toward where the Stormhowl Pack was located. She had been silent since we set off yesterday. Something was weighing on her mind.

Was she thinking about her family?

That foster brother of hers, Dante Black?

Did she miss them?

It wasn’t long before the last traces of sunlight vanished from the sky and night fell swiftly. The road ahead was narrow and flanked on both sides by thick, ancient woods. My vision shifted seamlessly into the darkness as I kept driving.

We were in unfamiliar territory and anything could emerge from the shadows; rogues, witches, or other creatures lurking with malicious intent. I heightened my senses, pushing them to full alert.
