Chapter 5

A few days later

Ella Whitmore

My car slowed down, making a loud grinding sound against the tarred road before halting.

Ugh! Fuck! Not now, please.

I'd repaired the car five times already in the last two months.

I purchased the car from someone three years ago because it was cheap... I couldn't count how many times I'd taken it to an engineer these past years.

I really should discard it now, but I have bills piled up, and saving money to buy a car is the last thing on my list now.

I sighed frustratingly as I stepped out of the car. Of all places the car could break down, why a deserted road?

No cars. No one passing by.

Just an unending road covered in fog and snow ahead and behind me.

I rubbed my cold palms together.

I was supposed to be in the office in thirty minutes, and here I am, stuck in the cold in the middle of nowhere.

Right… I should call a mechanic. Maybe I could find anyone nearby.

With that in mind, I went back inside my car and grabbed my phone.

The battery blinked back at me. Just one percent.

Before I could call for help, it went blank.

Sighs. Switched off.

That was my last hope.

I couldn't stand there. It'll only get worse. I had only one choice… to walk.

With that in my mind, I reached for my car keys, locked the doors, and started walking aimlessly down the street, hoping to find help soon.

Cold bit into my coat down to my skin, my inside almost freezing, and my legs begging for rest as I walked down the streets.

Five minutes… just five minutes, and my legs couldn't go any farther.

My body shivered, teeth chattering, heart pounding hard, breath stuttering, and my pulse slowly slipping away.

My legs finally gave in, and I crashed to the floor at the side of the road, my vision blurring out.

God! I might die if I don't get help in another minute.

At that moment, the only person I could think of was that stranger… Kael Ashfang.

Deep down, I longed for his presence… A part of me waiting for him to come save me.

Crazy! Is this a movie where the male lead pops out of nowhere whenever the female lead is in trouble like he was always lurking around her?

I laughed silently at my silliness, because I knew for sure no one was coming to save me.

“Ple…please… sa…ve me…” Still, I whispered, my voice inaudible.

With my eyes half opened, I saw someone approaching me… a tall figure. One that was unmistakably Kael Ashfang.

I blinked. Did it work? Did he really pop out of nowhere to save me?

Relief coursed through me, but I asked myself… Why was he always everywhere? Especially whenever I was in danger?

First was that night, then when Jasper tried to hurt me... and now?

But it didn't matter at that moment. I just needed to leave here.

He stopped before me, and without hesitation, lifted me effortlessly from the ground, into his arms like I weighed nothing.

Without a word, he turned and started walking away. I didn't resist. I didn't ask questions. I just curled on his chest, his body hot against mine… just what I needed.

We got to his car. A black sleek luxury truck.

He got inside the car, still holding me firmly, his body hot against mine… like he was burning from inside.

It was weird that he was burning up while it's cold out here… I wanted to ask if he was fine. I mean, it's weird being hot in this weather.

But I didn't. I just stayed in his arms, getting all the warmth that I needed.

The cold had reduced, but not completely gone. My body still shivered, teeth still chattered.

Then he reached for his jacket, draping it round my body, its smell greeting my nose.

It smelt like pine and something wild… One I couldn't identify.

I should be afraid... Anyone in their right mind would be.

It was weird that this man came from nowhere and has been showing up whenever I was in danger like he was always watching me.

This should scare me, but it didn't. Wrapped in his arms now, surrounded by his heat… I had never felt so safe in anyone's arms like I felt now.

My pulse steadied… Fingers tightened on his shirt as a heavy invisible weight pressed on my eyelids.

I shouldn't trust him enough to fall asleep around him, but it was already too late.

My consciousness had already slipped away, his heat seeping into my frozen body.

At that moment, only one question echoed in my head… Where will he take me? What happens when I wake up?

Chapter 54 JASPER My heart pounded, eyes sweeping around restlessly as I sat in the cold and dark prison. My head still ached from the beating, my face still swollen, and my inside still shaking from fear. A few hours ago, I was attacked by strange-looking people. They were all wearing masks. I had no idea why, but before I passed out, I heard them call a familiar name. Cole… That was unmistakably Ella's boss. They mentioned supernatural hunters too. It was at that moment I realised that Cole has been connected to the hunters right from the onset. Apparently, they were hunting Ella too. They pummeled me and only left me when they thought I was dead. I woke up two hours later in an abandoned reservoir. They must've thrown me there thinking that I was dead. I found my way here as soon as I left the reservoir, and here I am, thrown in the prison. I ran my fingers through my hair, squeezing my eyes shut. I only wanted to help Ella… I wanted to win her back by saving her fro

Chapter 53ALPHA KAEL Aria's scent was already slowly fading away, but we still managed to track it down to Cole's company.I tried to sniff her scent farther, but it had already faded, replaced with the scent of chemicals.I paced restlessly at the garage, my chest contracting as Storm and the other werewolves searched around the company for her. Many thoughts ran through my mind, but I refused to believe that she was dead even though the mate bond had been silenced. I can't stand my mate being dead.I paused as something caught my attention. Just before the gate, an empty syringe laid on the floor.I went to pick it up. My jaw tightened once I realised what it was.Anaesthesia. A different kind. They probably knocked Aria off with this. This must've been the reason I couldn't feel the mate bond. I told myself. I tried hard to believe that, but deep down, I knew it could be something worse.Just then, Storm and the others returned.“We've combed through every corner of the building

Chapter 52ELLA POV “Ugh!” I groaned in pain, rubbing my temple as pain shot through my head.I squeezed my shit before opening them, but stiffened as I was welcomed by darkness.I had no idea where I was at the moment, but the place was dark. The floor was cold beneath me.The sound of chains rattling echoed in the air as I tried to move, and that was when I realised that my hands were tied with chains.“Wh…what's going…” My voice cracked, fear washing over me as everything replayed in my head.My boss… He lured me out and attacked me. He made me pass away with whatever he had them inject inside me.A soft groan tore through my throat as my ears rang loudly.I should've listened to Kael. Oh fuck! This is my fault. I'm always fucking getting myself into trouble.“Anybody there? Please help me…” I moved, but collided into a bar gate, and I shifted back.Where am I? In a cage?“Anybody there?” My hands trembled as they found their way to the bar gate, my fingers tightening on it.“Some

Dragging on for a moment, then silent.Kael dropped to the floor weakly, breathing heavily, his body covered in cold sweat. What's going on? Why can't I feel it again? Kael asked himself, terror creeping up his face. He knew what this meant… Not feeling the mate bond meant that the other person was dead, but still, he didn't want to accept it. There's no way Ella could be dead. His hands trembled as he crawled to the couch, grabbing his phone. Kael felt a glimmer of hope in that moment when the call started ringing, however, the hope slipped past his finger before he could hold on to it.Ella's phone was ringing on the living room’s floor.Kael stood there for a moment, his eyes glued to the phone blankly, many thoughts lingering on his mind. It must've been so important that he didn't only come here by himself, but texted me later.“I need to go to work, Kael. It's been months since I last went to the office. My boss demands my presence, and if I'm not there, he might fire me…”“He even came here to be sure that I'm fine… I have no excuse to give him now. He saw that I was perfectly fine,” I said calmly, trying to make Kael understand, but he wouldn't budge.“I can't let you leave. It's dangerous out there,” he insisted. My chest burned with anger, but I tried to hold it back, taking a deep long breath.“Kael—”“You are not leaving, Ella. And that's final,” he said with finality in his voice, and without another word, he turned around to leave.I scoffed, “who do you think you are to control me like that?”He paused and threw his head back for a moment

The video he posted a few days ago had gained attention. People commented on it. Very few of them believed him, but most people kept saying that he was losing his mind.‘Who would believe this bullshit. People turning to werewolves? That's fucking AI’‘Have you heard of artificial intelligence? They can fuck with your brain’‘What fucking psycho is this? Go deal with your mental illness’Jasper sighed as he read through the comments. Why the fuck is no one believing what he saw? I'm here already’Jasper's eyes wandered around, and paused when he saw a man across the bar, staring at his phone.“Hey…” Jasper called out, and the man lifted his gaz
