Lyra's POV.

"Victory is lurking on the tip of our fingers but we are too weak and distracted to take it."

Camile rolled her eyes at my words, tossing the colourful magazine aside.

"I know we need to be tactical but a little patience will do." She said. "There is too much at stake. "

"And this is where we diverge." I snapped back at her, hoisting myself out of the chair and leaning on the window.

"Kael is now weak, taking him down will not cost as much. But rather, we choose to linger and prevaricate like sheep. We need to strike hard, strike now. "

"We are doing the best we can The Alpha is planning on leaving Kael unsuspecting. The moment we give him the hint that we are planning to attack, he is going to take countermeasures. And who knows who he will call on for help and if we are eventually going to be outnumbered. Patience my dear friend," she reached out and placed a hand on my shoulder. "This victory is already ours, like you said."

"There are other means to live, Keal, in the dar,k, older than folding our hands and keeping salad while the opportunities passed by."

It was becoming hard for me to keep my anger in control. I could already feel it, the people of that pack, subjugated and conquered. Lucius promised to elevate my status, and I could not help but savour the honour and respect that would come with it. I hated this tardiness.

"There are other hideouts and secret passageways to the pack. The library has a hatch that we could access through the chimney. Apart from that, there is another entryway in the dungeon. The warriors would normally go through this path. But it has been abandoned for a while. Kael's grandfather was the last person to make use of this entry. He has no idea that they exist. All we need to do is mobilise 100 men and sneak in through these open holes. Kael is dead and gone, and Lucius becomes an alpha King ruling over mighty packs. You need to see from my point of view Camilla. Patience and circumspection are not weapons of war. Violence and bravery are."

"You need to hold your peace Lyra. You are all but a warlord or commander."

The unexpected voice barged into my thoughts. I stiffened, nearly turning to stone when I turned around and found Alpha Lucius walking into the courtroom.

"We are right to say that Kael is weak but he still has an army of 15,000 Alpha wolves. We are rogues, we don't have that much and the last attack caused a huge dent to our standing. We still don't have enough strength to meet Kael's soldiers on an open field and the moon help us if they corner us on their premises. It will be bloody and we will lose. Camille is right, we need to take some time to restrategize. Do you understand?"

Lucius thought he had made sense, like honey of the usual statements I would hear from him. But, this was the most preposterous thing he had ever uttered. Kael was not a friend. The bridges between I've been collapsed pages ago. Kael admitted—made it clear that he didn't want to have anything to do with us rogues or our charity cases. And now Lucius is showing mercy? What was happening? Where was the man who gave me lessons on revenge and retribution? Whose raging voice gives me a hope of fulfilment in my times of despair.

The hope that Kael would someday be destroyed was the centre of my purpose—my identity, and I would live to fulfil it.

"Lyra, you haven't said anything." Lucius' voice broke into my thoughts again. "Do you understand me?"

It took a ton of strength to part my lips and lift my tongue but I did it anyway.

"Yes, I will not make plans to attack anymore."

"Good." He turned in the direction of the main house. "Now, you two should head out and continue your training. I have work to do."

Camille reached for the magazine on the table, but I kicked it further.

"Let's get on a few of them make some sense out of this."

With a loud, frustrated growl, she grabbed her spear and we walked out together.

We took the training seriously, determined to increase our skills and outmatch Caleb's soldiers. Lucius still didn't say anything about our impending attack or sending out spies. I was tempted to approach him and ask why, but a part of me decided to cut him some slack. Being a leader wasn't easy, and for all I taught myself, Lucious might have burnt out emotionally.

A full week into our training I noticed a change in Camille. It appeared subtle at first, but then I began to see clearly. The morning training stopped, and we no longer learnt archery and gun aiming.

Two days after this, I decided to speak out. I paid a visit to Camila's bedroom early in the morning. She hadhad a strict rule that no one wake her up whenever she was sleeping, not unless the world was ending or Lucius himself was dying. But I ignored this and questioned her anyway.

"Are you going to let Kael get everything and continue to enslave us?"

"I know you are concerned Lyra, but there is something I need to tell you now." She rose from the bed.

" Lucios deliberately paused the attack plans, and it is for a reason ."

"What reason could that be?" I asked.

She shrugged.

"Alpha Keal is gathering some people to come pay us a visit here in our Palace. Lucious is afraid that you would be enthralled by Kael's presence and go with him."

" What! I would never do such a thing is the one who betrayed me. I can never fall for his tricks again."

Camille didn't say anything else. I left the room, and an hour later, Lucius presented me with a dress and told me we were going out.

  • ALPHA KAEL'S REJECTION    CHAPTER 67

Lyra’s POV. "I have been involved in a few fights in my life and I am not proud of everything that I have done but the only thing you can be rest assured of, is the fact that you would never be disappointed when it comes to me." Lucius told me.My eyes lingered on him, watching the once confident man look like he was trying so hard not to break down in my presence and I kind of understood it but at the same time, realized that he was fighting some battles that would never make any sense to me except he came out clean. "Of course you had to. How is that affecting you now?""Badly, a whole lot of people have different perception about me and as much as I would have loved for me to remain anonymous my past is finally catching up with me and I have to be at the center of it all making sure that everybody has a hand in this no matter what." He wasn't making any sense with his analogy and even though I wanted to believe him to some extent, I kind of felt like there was a little something

  • ALPHA KAEL'S REJECTION    CHAPTER 66

Kael's POV.My wolf led me to the plains, that was the only place that I could be able to get answers for what I was looking for and how long he was going to take for me to fathom a reasonable explanation and why she just disappeared. Selene must have been a bastard for thinking that you'll be able to make me convinced to do whatever she wanted and not what I truly wanted. How on Earth does she even think that it was possible? I had nothing to lose but she had everything and the entire world too. The father was not even as popular as he wanted to preserve his legacy and I was doing this simply because my pack members decided to go on a long journey to make sure that I was not doing anything against what was already in the works. I had nothing to lose nor gain, but now that Selene had spoken about it I was willing to abandon a few things to seek that girl out. She couldn't have been really far away or else I would have found her by now. I also didn't have anything to say apart fro

  • ALPHA KAEL'S REJECTION    CHAPTER 65

Lyra's POV.My first move was to comb the entire area making sure that I was able to drag the few things out."Don't you have a whole lot of things that you have to put into place before we start fighting against somebody that we know is going to prevail one way or the other?" It just didn't make sense to me no matter how much they were trying to go about it and paint it to be the real thing. I had already discovered a better way of handling the situation but none of this was sufficient enough for me. I had more ideas running through my mind and until they were done, I had nothing to fight for.One thing that was certain was the fact that I decided to go on with the entire trip. For Camille to think that everything was fine on my end and I was not under any pressure to give them a correct prediction or else lead them to their doom, she was just the same like everybody else. Most of them had concluded that I was overreacting about certain things that I did which was okay by me and

Kael's POV. I didn't have much to think of but I knew that something had been going on that I have was not very attentive to and I needed to change that immediately before it was so late for me to do that anymore I wasn't obsessing over Selene but she had made very valid points and I needed to check downtown just to see what was lurking behind this scenes As a spy myself I knew that whenever there was a lot of count it was going to birth something more than a whirlwind. I didn't have much to talk about but I was very sure that there was even something else going on that needed to help in releasing the pains. I had nothing more to look for besides the obvious answers that I had gotten over a long time. I didn't also have what it took to be able to switch things up but I was sure that at some point I would be able to see what was going on and deal with it. Firstly there was nothing else that I needed to do that was going to help out. All I needed right now was to make sure that I h

Lyra's POV. One of the most amazing things that I had ever done in my entire life had to be the fact that I have been able to understand the difference between the different timelines and how to navigate through it without losing my mind.I was only committed to one and that needed all the time in the world just to be able to sort many differences out."So... Are you a little bit worried by what this might bring and how longMy heart was pounding so hard that I almost felt it leaping out of my chest. My hands were tight but I had only one will.I needed to live, even if that was the last thing that I did. There was basically no option for me and I wasn't going to take chances. "If she gets away, we are doomed!" Somebody yelled from behind me. I was a little bit irritated by the way they were acting but I couldn't blame them either. It wasn't entirely there fault the way things were going, they had just been conditioned to think that Selene wielded the entire power. I also thought

  • ALPHA KAEL'S REJECTION    CHAPTER 62

Lyra's POV. I didn't think that there was going to be a change in the fact, "I didn't have the right to change the mandate but there wasn't anything more the other day." "Are you sure that there's something wrong with the issues at hand or is this something else that you need to tell me?" Camille headed towards me with the intention to get more information out of me but that was not going to happen. I had already figured out that there was going to be a little bit of a mix up here and there and I was waiting to see how long it was going to take and what exactly I had to do to sort out the entire problems. I had taken a deep breath yet refused to look straight into what she wanted me to do. I was thinking about how long it was going to take for me to be able to sort out a few things but here I was, dealing with more issues than none. "Is this really a thing or...?"I took a deep breath refusing to answer my question because it was harmful to my person and I would love to have the
