KING RYKERR

King Rykerr sat up in bed, his body still weak but his mind was sharp. It had been a long time since he had seen the man before him, the one person he once trusted more than anyone else.

"Ulric," the King whispered, his voice low but full of emotion. His fingers twitched, wishing he could get up and hug his brother, but his strength hadn't fully returned.

Ulric, tall and rugged, stood at the door. His eyes instantly welled with tears as he rushed to his half-brother. He dropped to one knee beside the bed and hugged the King tightly.

"Your Majesty," Ulric said, holding onto him. He buried his face into the King's shoulder and breathed in his scent, like a child reunited with a long-lost parent. Then he pulled back, his hands still resting on the King's arm.

"I'm so sorry I left. I didn't know what happened to you. I came as fast as I could immediately I heard," Ulric said with regret in his voice.
