FIVE — Seeing her again

COLT

"It's great to finally meet you in person, Alpha Colt." A gray-haired, wrinkled-faced, skinny but cheerful-looking man said as I walked into the office.

From his outfit and the name on the desk name plate, I could guess he was the one I came down here to meet.

"Hello," I replied briskly, shaking his hand.

"I'm Dr. Sturgis. Welcome to Moon Shine Pack."

Yeah. It's him.

I sighed in relief. "Thank you for making time to see me on such short notice, Dr. Sturgis."

"It's no problem. Please have a seat."

I sat and gestured at Luke, my Beta. "Go wait outside," I whispered to him.

He nodded and left the office, giving me the privacy I needed with Dr. Sturgis.

"To be honest, when I heard you wanted to see me, I was a little surprised." He began civilly. "Why would you come all the way here for a medical situation when your Pack has one of the best doctors in the region."

"Because I want this to be a secret. And it wouldn't be that if I went to the doctor in my pack. Would it?"

He nodded once. "Right. I understand. So, what is the problem? Are you sick? How bad is it?"

Terrible. It cost me my bond with Ruby and right now, I was on the verge of losing Fallon.

Fallon was the girl I took as a breeder, right after Ruby rejected me. It's been four long years already, and I tried to forget Ruby, focusing more on Fallon and my new life with life.

But then, that new life has a big problem, the same one I encountered with Ruby. We were childless.

The elders had found out that my bond with Ruby was severed and they congratulated me for the bold move of taking a breeder. They believed, as much as I did, that it was Ruby's fault that we were unable to have kids.

When I took Fallon, the elders gave me their blessings. But so far, I couldn't boast about having a child with her. I couldn't firmly blame her either, as much as I blamed Ruby.

Fallon was a fox. On bed. In appearance. She looked healthy. The test results from the doctor also proved that.

Only then did it ever dawn on me that I needed a medical check-up. I never had any when I was with Ruby. I just forced her to go have those tests, because like I said, I believed it was her fault.

Now I was ready to be tested and know for sure who the problem was. But I couldn't have that test at home. Tongues would wag. My reputation would be doomed, even without the test results proving anything.

The mere fact that I visited a hospital meant that I was second-guessing myself. If my people found that, my reputation would be ruined. I would lose my glory. I couldn't let that happen.

That was why I chose to travel a thousand miles instead for my check-up.

"I haven't been able to have a child…" I stopped, hoping the doctor would make sense of my few words.

"And you're sure it's not the fault of your mate?"

"I took a breeder. It's the same result." I breathed out, feeling the horror of my painful situation.

"Alright. So you wanna know if you're…" He paused like he was awaiting permission to state the obvious.

"Impotent." I completed it, sickened by the very thought of it.

"Alright. I'll run a couple of tests on you. I hope you won't feel sensitive and offended about them."

"I don't have the luxury to feel that. Please do whatever you can. I just wanna know what my condition is. I need to know."

"Alright."

Hours later, he was done.

"The results will be ready in three days."

"Three days?" That's crazy. I thought it would all be done and ready today. I needed to return home. I have a meeting with one of the big neighboring Packs Alpha. I couldn't afford to miss it.

"I'm sorry, Alpha Colt. But there's nothing I can do. It takes three days. Nothing more. Nothing less."

In Times like this, I would have asked Killian to fill in for me. But those were the good old days.

After he heard about my split with Ruby, he came over and engaged me in a bloody fight. We both ended up looking like a huge mess. And then he vowed to take Ruby away from me, and he would also take back the Alpha position from me.

It was the deadliest threat I ever received. As much as I loved him, I never thought I could harbor ill thoughts towards him. But when he said those words, the thoughts of killing him crept and stayed in my mind.

Luckily, he vanished. Left the Pack. Ruby vanished too. It was a relief to have Killian gone. But I spent the last four years missions Ruby so fucking much.

Fallon might be sexy and a fucking expert at riding my dick, but she was emotionally unavailable and didn't click with me as much as Ruby did. And I needed that. I needed Ruby. Too bad she's gone from my life for good.

"Alright, doctor. I'll try to stick around for three more days. I just hope it doesn't take any longer than that."

"It won't. I hope you have a nice time here in Moon Shine Pack."

"Thank you, doctor," I said and left his office.

Luke and I headed to the car and we drove out of the hospital premises.

"We'll be checking into a hotel tonight ."

"What?" He asked in surprise. "We're not leaving today?"

"No. We're not." I informed him, regretfully.

"Damn. What about the meeting?"

"Try to see if you can reschedule it."

"Alright." He began making a couple of phone calls while I stared out of the window in silence.

Nothing fascinated me. Nothing caught my interest. I was staring, trying to ease my boredom. Until my gaze bumped into a woman, coming out of an eatery with a young boy.

If I didn't know better, I would think he was one of the youngest Reinhart cousins. But when I looked at the woman he was with, probably his mother, my world came to a reckless halt.

"Ru–Ruby?"
