Adrian’s pov

“Hmmm… that feels so good,” Aria breathes out softly, the sound barely escaping her lips. The words curl through the air, low and unguarded, and I feel every syllable pulse straight into my chest.

Her back arches slightly under my hands, her skin warm, smooth, and marked with faint bruises. The sight twists something deep inside me.

“What is it anyway?” she murmurs.

Her eyes is still closed, trusting and completely unaware of how much that trust unravels me. I am used to people hiding from me in fear and terror, not that I mind.

“Just a little thing I asked a witch to concoct for me,” I reply, keeping my tone light. “If I had known it worked on humans, I would have given it to you sooner.”

The truth is, I use this same ointment after my own training sessions — when even a vampire’s body feels the sting of exhaustion. It numbs the pain, cools the burn and for me to need it is the testament of how far Evermoor academy can push you to your limits. For her, a fragile human,

Kael's povI close my eyes as Ghost pushes against my skull hard enough to split the bone. The pressure rolls through me in waves, each one darker than the last. Images slam into my mind one after another. Torn limbs……Crushed bodies…….Blood sprayed across the floor. Ghost shows me all of it, a promise of what he plans to do.“I will bathe in that wolf’s blood whether you like it or not”, he snarls. My teeth grind. “Then you’ll condemn us both to death.”I bite out for what feels like the thousandth time.“I will kill them all if I must. You have no idea what we can do. We are stronger than all of them, yet you cage us and reduce us to their normal standard”. “Fucking stop,” I rasp, the silver burning deep into my wrists as I pull against the chains. “You can’t kill whoever you want. There are rules that we follow for a reason and you can’t just break them just because of a human girl.”“She belongs to me.”“Not in this life.”A wild burst tears through my spine, and my body jerks fo

Aria's pov“Of course I didn’t, why would I do that? And of course I will be stupid to believe a word that comes out from his mouth. “Move,” I mutter, brushing past him toward the stairs. He grabs the edge of the door and slams it shut after me. “Say something.”“Aria—”“What?” I turn on the staircase. “What do you want from me now?”He looks at me like he is missing something. “I want you safe. That’s all I’ve ever wanted.”“That’s not true,” I say, climbing another step. “You want me under your thumb.”“That’s not fair.”“Then tell me the truth.” I stop halfway up and glare down at him. “Did you know Misha was here when you left me alone? Did you know anything about what she planned? Anything about what could’ve happened to me?”His throat works but he doesn’t speak.“Answer me,” I push. “You claim you care. So answer.”“Aria…” He drags a hand through his hair, pacing one slow step. “I didn’t think she would get to you.”“You knew she was here?”He closes his eyes. “Not like that.”

Aria's povMy head feels like it will fall off from all the running, lifting, carrying, dropping, and more carrying. First Lucien not Kael……The moment Kael finally drops me in his own bed, his familiar scent wraps around me and the last of my strength drains out of me. It feels like someone opened a door in my spine and let my energy spill into the floor. I don’t understand why I’m this sluggish. My limbs feel heavy and loose, my thoughts slow.It takes me a few long minutes to realize the room is silent. I blink, groggy, turn my head, and notice I am alone. What the…?Kael left me. Alone…..Again?.What is wrong with that man? The frustration makes my temples throb as I push myself upright. I stand, wobbling a little, and head to the bathroom. There is a new set of toiletries waiting on the counter, things that weren’t here before. It’s almost like he is preparing for me to live here. The thought makes me scoff under my breath.I eye the tub. A soak would fix my soul right now, bu

Kael’s povMy father calls me just as I reach for my car keys to go pick up Aria. I considered not picking up, I didn’t want Aria to walk, not with Misha still out there. He never calls at this hour and I don’t call too till it’s time for the weekly check in, but now he calls an emergency conference because of the increase in the attacks of rogues on our border. Ghost is pissed. He had marked all the borders because he considered it his even though our Alpha is still alive. The rogues nor any other pack didn’t dare to cross them when I’m around, they only did so when I’m too far away. One of the reasons I can’t wait to take over from him, no one fears Micheal Blackthorn anymore. My father has lost his touch and now it is me they fear. I lean back in my chair as I listen to him, his Beta and Gamma who are Dante and Jaxon’s father, give me updates. “No injuries this time. Warriors managed to push them back,” Beta Moses said.Barely. Who knows what will happen next time.I rubbed my

Aria's povThis is the wrong time to have a panic attack, but it comes anyway. The warning signs are there, my fingers shaking, my chest tightening, the pressure building in my head like someone is pushing my skull from the inside. I feel all of it as Misha throws me to the ground. My back hits the dirt and my breath stutters. She walks toward me with that cruel, slow confidence that tells me she plans to enjoy this.I try to stand up but my palms slip and I go down. My legs refuse to work right and my body is tired, so tired of all the beatings, of surviving……….every bit of fight I had in me is gone. Not that it matters because I won’t be able to fight nine-ten people even if I tried. I thought today will be different, that I will finally escape this academy. I should be on my way home by the end of today but instead here I am about to face death for the second time in a few hours.Misha smirks at me.“Alpha Kael is too good for a thing like you. He’s going to be Alpha of the big

Aria's povI couldn’t even finish my breakfast, how could I?“We can go now, right?” I push the words out before my courage fades.Doris’s face brightens. “Of course we can. Let’s go.”It happens fast……..Too fast. One minute we’re leaving the cafeteria, the next we’re in the main building, standing in the welfare coordinator's office, Mrs Clark's, who didn’t even bat an eye as she nods, scribbles something and hands us two passes.Just like that. No questions. No hesitation.I blink down at the pass in my hand. Why didn’t anyone tell me about this before?I could have escaped a long time ago.We headed to a side of the campus I haven't seen before. It seemed darker, the building taller and quieter. “You don’t want to get your bag?” Doris walks beside me with a soft smile. “I have my purse already.” I shook my head. “I’ll just look around today.”She nods. “That’s fine.”Inside my chest, a fist tightens around my heart. It’s better this way. No way am I going back after hearing abou
