Chapter 1

Author: Momo Isn't White
As we were passing a toll booth, Yvonne, who had insisted on squeezing into the car with us, spotted a stray dog and demanded that we take it home.

He completely ignored my objections.

Instead, he looked at Yvonne with a questioning gaze.

“Yvonne, look at this poor puppy. If we just leave it here, it’ll definitely freeze to death.”

“It’s still so young. It hasn’t even seen the world yet. It shouldn’t die here like this.”

As she spoke, she pulled the puppy tightly into his arms.

Yvonne tenderly took the coat I had left in the car, wrapped it around the puppy, and spoke as though the rest of us did not exist.

“Don’t worry. I won’t abandon it.”

“Don’t get your own clothes dirty. Use this coat to keep it warm.”

Then she turned to me with clear displeasure. “Charles, how can you be so heartless?”

“To you, this may just be a stray dog, but it’s a living being.”

“You can really just ignore it like this? How can you be so cold?”

I looked at the two of them, at a loss for words over their dramatic show of compassion.

From beginning to end, I never once said we should abandon the dog. Yet somehow, they painted me as a villain without a shred of humanity.

One of them was even my wife, the woman who had shared my bed for years.

Despite my anger, I explained patiently,

“If you really want to help the dog, we can leave it some food.”

“Or we can talk to the convenience store clerk here, leave some money, and ask them to help take care of it.”

“Our car is already full. If we take it with us, we’ll be overloaded, and we’ll definitely get pulled over by traffic police.”

I thought my explanation was clear enough.

However, the moment I finished speaking, Evan grew upset.

"Charles, I know you're rich, but are you seriously going to ditch a stray dog on some random store clerk?"

“How do you know they’ll actually take good care of it?”

“What if they take the money and do nothing? What happens to Blackie then?”

In less than five minutes, he had already given the stray dog a name.

“How is such a tiny puppy supposed to survive this winter?”

“To you rich folks, a dog’s life doesn’t matter at all, but it’s still a living creature!”

“Can you really bear to leave it here all alone? Can’t you see it’s already shaking from the cold?”

I could not help but laugh at Evan’s guilt trip. “You know, you’ve got a point.”

Then I went in a different direction. “How about you give your seat to Blackie?”

“After all, you’re the one who’s extra in this car.”

Yvonne spun around and glared at me.“So, what if I cheated? I want to have a child with Yvonne. What are you going to do about it?”“Divorce, fine. But your assets? Half of them are mine.”Dream on!“You clearly don’t have the right to negotiate with me.” I shot a glance at my bodyguards, who immediately restrained Evan.Yvonne could not fight back. Her eyes were filled with worry for Evan.“Charles, are you out of your mind? Let him go!”“You’re crazy! I can’t believe I married you!”“I’m calling the police!”I rose to my feet, slowly walked up to her, and looked down with utter contempt.“You know what the advantage of having money is? You can settle anything.”“What do you have to fight me with?”Yvonne froze for a full two seconds, completely stunned by my words.Though she hated it, for her beloved first love and the child she carried. Yvonne had no choice but to sign the divorce papers, walking away with nothing.I laughed at them and started to walk away.Yvo

I almost laughed out loud when I saw that ridiculous scene.Yvonne, on the other hand, was fuming and smashing things around my house.I frowned in annoyance. “All of this stuff cost me real money, you know. And you’re smashing it like it’s nothing.”I patted Blackie, crouched on the passenger seat, and said, “Well, let’s make her pay for it all.”Blackie barked twice as though it was agreeing. What a clever little thing. After enjoying the show, I left with Blackie and headed to the hotel. After a hearty meal, my lawyer and bodyguards were already on their way to Johnson’s old residence.I glanced at them, still lounging arrogantly in the apartment, and smiled to myself. It was the perfect timing for taking back the property.I unlocked the front door with my fingerprint.Yvonne, who had been relaxed a moment ago, instantly snapped to attention.“You’re back? Don’t you understand human language?!”“We’re still married. This house belongs to both of us. Don’t even think abou

I had been worried about potential issues with the house. Then I installed surveillance cameras right after buying it so that I could check in anytime.By the time I left, the Johnson family had already started celebrating ahead of schedule.“Girl, you’re amazing! Took back control in just a few words!”“Let’s see him dare to kick us out next time!”“Thinking he’s all that just because he’s rich. Marrying my daughter and still not treating her right!”Evan, completely ignoring everyone else, wrapped his arms around Yvonne. “She really knows how to put that loser in his place.”“You should’ve been harsher, make him understand who’s the boss.”Then he planted a kiss on Yvonne’s lips. Her face immediately flushed crimson, and she buried her head shyly in his chest. It was eye-roll worthy.Well, if you were all going to be shameless like this, why not make it even more public?I smirked, closed the surveillance feed, and unlocked my phone screen.I placed ten orders for loudspe

The next morning, I was still half asleep under the covers.Bang, bang, bang! A loud knock echoed through the door.I did not expect I would be greeted by Yvonne when I opened the door. She stood there with her chin lifted and an air of smug arrogance. She shoved past me without hesitation, strode straight into my place, and collapsed onto my couch as if she owned it.Trailing in behind her were her parents, several relatives from the Johnson family, and, of course, Evan. Not a single one was missing.Seven or eight people crammed into my living room, instantly filling the space with noise and accusations.“Charles, don’t you think you went too far? Kicking your wife and in-laws out of the house during the New Year. Do you have any conscience at all?”“What kind of son-in-law behaves like that? If you had an issue, couldn’t you talk it out instead of tormenting the elderly?”“They raised you, and now you repay them by making them suffer? Is there no justice left in this world?”

After Yvonne and the others finally left, I gave the entire house a thorough cleaning, inside and out.I placed everything they had bought with them in a box and handed it to the property manager, telling them to donate it to anyone who actually needed it.Even Blackie got a makeover.By the time I finished, the takeout I had ordered had just arrived. So, there we were, one man and one dog, sitting comfortably in front of the TV, watching the Spring Festival Gala.I ate hotpot. He ate dog food.It was ridiculously peaceful. Not long after, my phone rang.It was a call from one of the hotels under my name.It turned out Yvonne and her family had nowhere to go and thought of the hotel.Since it was the Lunar New Year, prices were high everywhere.Unwilling to spend a cent, she shamelessly showed up at my hotel, trying to check in by flashing her face. She did not expect to be stopped.Through the phone, I could vaguely hear her impatient voice in the background,“Why is ch

The property management team arrived quickly, several people in tow, and knocked on my door.Yvonne stared at them, completely confused. “Can I help you?”One of the staff replied politely, “Hello, we’re from the property management. We received a complaint that someone broke into the apartment, so we came to check.”Yvonne frowned and glanced at her parents. “Did you guys call them?”Both of them shook their heads. Evan even seemed puzzled. She turned back to the staff with a displeased look on her face. “No one here called you. Are you sure you have the right apartment?”“Next time, can you make sure before showing up and bothering us tenants…”Her words were cut off by me, “I called.”Her anger instantly shifted to me.“Charles! Have you lost it? First the cops, now the property management. What are you trying to do?!”“It’s New Year’s Eve. You can’t just cause trouble.”“Can’t anyone have a peaceful holiday?”I gave her a cold stare. ‘You? You think you get to lecture
