Not long after getting married to my husband, he says he wants to teach me how to scuba dive. My leg cramps when I'm practicing alone in the deep sea. However, my husband, a swimming instructor, chooses to save his unattainable love—she's jumped into the sea to commit suicide. I don't ask him for help. Instead, I allow myself to slowly sink. In my past life, I stopped my husband from leaving. He saved me with gnashed teeth and allowed his first love, Millie Quirke, to drown. By the time he went to save her, she'd already disappeared in the water. He comforted me and told me it was okay, that he was glad he'd saved me. However, one night, he brought me back to the seaside. Just as I let my guard down, he grabbed my neck and plunged my face into the water. Then, he dragged me out before I could suffocate. "You were just cramping—it would've passed! But Millie got dragged away by the current because of you! You can remain in the ocean with her!" When I open my eyes again, I'm back to the day I was scuba diving.

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

The cold, salty seawater engulfed me, and I knew exactly what was about to happen. I used all my strength to swim toward the surface.

The moment my head broke through the water, a sharp, paralyzing pain shot through my calf, instantly robbing me of all strength. My body started sinking again.

Not far away, Mason Jacobs was speeding toward the shore on a jet ski, racing against time.

The pain in my leg persisted, but I held back the urge to call out for Mason.

While I was on the brink of life and death, a strange sense of calm washed over me. I scanned my surroundings, searching for anything that could save me.

Suddenly, a jet ski surged toward me. On it was Mason's colleague—he had attended our wedding. He was also Mason's best friend, George Madden.

"Help! My leg is cramping!" I shouted.

George circled me on his jet ski, rubbing his chin with a dismissive smirk.

"Come on, Felicity. Don't try to fool me. You don't look like someone with a leg cramp. Are you just trying to stop Mason from saving that person? That's not right. Mason is a coach—it's his job to rescue people. You shouldn't be acting so unreasonable," he said.

My body was growing weaker, and half of my face was sinking into the seawater. While clenching my teeth to endure the pain, I forced my head up and shouted, my voice shrill with panic, "Rescuing people is not just his job—it's yours too! I said I have a cramp, now pull me up!"

He chuckled lightly. "Felicity, stop messing around. Maybe you can fool Mason with this act, but not me. He just asked me to keep an eye on you while you're diving, not to watch you put on a show. It's obvious you never studied properly. Real leg cramps in the water don't look like this."

Tears welled up in my eyes and streamed down my cheeks. No matter what I said, this man refused to believe me.

Yes, I hated how Mason always put Millie Quirke before me. There were times I threw tantrums, refusing to let Mason see her. But I had never faked drowning to deceive anyone.

I had already died once. Was I about to experience the suffocating terror of drowning all over again?

I bit down hard on my lip, and the taste of blood spread through my mouth, jolting my fading consciousness.

Fueled by sheer survival instinct, I reached out and grabbed the edge of the jet ski. I didn't know what I had grabbed, but a sharp metal edge sliced my palm open, blood spilling freely.

Yet, I still refused to let go.

A flicker of panic finally crossed George's face. He scowled, telling me to stop pretending.

Just then, a speedboat appeared behind him. The people on the boat ignored the still-hesitating George and worked together to pull me aboard.

The moment I was lifted out of the water, my body finally relaxed. My calf twitched uncontrollably.

I looked up at the coach helping me and was momentarily stunned. It was the manager of Mason's diving club, John Hart.

John piloted the boat back to shore, helping me sit down before calling for a doctor to treat my wounds.

Maybe it was because I had nearly died, but John couldn't hold back his fury. Right there on the beach, he grabbed George and unleashed a furious tirade, drawing the attention of everyone around.

The bystanders pieced together the story from John's yelling and started showing concern for me.

"Are you okay, miss? Next time, make sure you find a reliable coach! You're lucky to be alive this time."

"This diving club's coaches are so irresponsible, huh? Good thing I didn't choose them. I need to warn my friends to stay away!"

"Someone like that should've been fired ages ago! Watching a student struggle and refusing to help—what kind of monster does that?"

After surviving the ordeal, I finally felt the weight of being alive as I listened to the chatter.

I took a deep breath of fresh air, and suddenly, tears streamed down my face.

Everyone was pointing fingers at George, condemning him. But I knew the person most deserving of blame wasn't him—it was my husband.

We had been together for eight years and were newly married, and yet, he kept risking everything for the unattainable love of his—even at the cost of my life.

All these years of genuine love were wasted on a man who never truly valued me.

John saw me on the verge of breaking down and helped me up. He escorted me to a car and took me to the hospital.

Once I had calmed down, he handed me my clothes and phone, asking if I wanted to call my family.

Family? Could Mason still be considered my family?

I shook my head and refused.

Just then, my phone rang. It was Mason, calling me first.

On the other end of the line, Mason's low and hoarse voice was laced with anger. "Felicity, where did you go? I turned around to save a person, and suddenly you were gone!"Can't you just be a little more understanding and stop causing trouble for me? Do you have any idea that Millie almost jumped into the ocean today? If it weren't for me, she'd be dead by now!"When will you finally learn to be considerate?"In the background, I could hear Millie softly soothing Mason, trying to calm his emotions. While listening to his completely unjustified rage, my heart filled with unbearable grievance. My hands trembled uncontrollably from the overwhelming emotions, and it took all my strength just to call out his name.I spoke softly. "Mason, do you know that I almost died too?"Mason scoffed. "Quit the act, Felicity. You're just upset that I care about Millie so you're trying every trick in the book to get my attention. Let me tell you—it won't work! I'm not coming home tonight, so go ba

I couldn't help but sneer. "Didn't I already tell you? I almost died."Mason rubbed his ears, and a flash of unease crossed his expression. "You're acting again! Now you've even taken your performance to the hospital?"Before I could respond, Millie's sharp scream erupted from the other end of the line. "I don't want to live anymore! Mason, let me die!"I only ever saw you as a friend! How could Felicity say such things? She's forcing me to die!"Mason immediately turned to comfort Millie in a hurry.Meanwhile, I had long grown used to her breakdowns. She claimed to have depression and that she didn't like Mason.Yet her depression only seemed to flare up whenever Mason and I started reconciling. And every time, she needed Mason to go to her.I was sick of it."Millie, Mason is not your antidepressant. You say you don't like him, yet you cling to him like your life depends on it. Are you that pathetic?" I jeered. Her response was another high-pitched, ear-piercing scream. And

Mason's face turned pale at that, and he frantically turned to John. "What nonsense are you spouting? John is right here. Can you stop causing trouble?"John let out a cold laugh. "Mason, is this how you treat the wife who has been by your side for eight years?"As he spoke, he fiercely flung the medical report I had left behind at the hospital straight at Mason's face. The sharp paper left a bloody scratch on Mason's face. He bent down, picking up the scattered pages one by one. At some point, his pupils suddenly dilated, and his fingers began to tremble uncontrollably. His gaze darted up and down as he looked at me, his voice trembling as he blurted out, "You really had cramps and nearly drowned?"I couldn't help but sneer."How could that be? I was just acting. John, your colleagues, the reporters outside, the bystanders, and even the online public opinion—they're all actors I paid for! All just to provoke your precious unattainable love into having a breakdown and committing

I let out a cold chuckle and faced the cameras. "That's because Millie is his unattainable love. For her, he was willing to abandon his wife."I continued, "As coaches, isn't your first responsibility to pull a student out of the water at the first sign of distress? Just because I had a strong will to survive and managed to stay afloat, you decided I was fine and even mocked me?"You two clearly failed to do your jobs, yet you're shifting all the blame onto me. What, just because you two can talk, you get to twist the truth? And I'm not allowed to speak the truth myself?"Mason's gaze darkened with resentment and confusion as he looked at me. After all, everything I had ever done was for his sake. This was the first time I went against his wishes. In the past, no matter what he said to belittle me, I would swallow my grievances for his career, his reputation, and his fragile male ego.As long as he held me in his arms and apologized, I would let everything go and continue loving h

Chapter 6
When Mason heard Millie's voice, he completely broke down. He slammed his phone to the ground, grabbed mine, and shouted hoarsely, "Millie, why won't you pick up my calls?"Millie, upon hearing his voice, immediately hung up. When he called again, he was met with the same voicemail.I chuckled softly. "Looks like she's blocked my number too."Mason's gaze turned dangerously sharp, and he glared at me. "Stop trying to sow discord here. Millie is just scared. She's probably hiding somewhere, and soon she'll come back to me."I couldn't help but take a step back under his intense gaze, fearing he might make an impulsive move. Once I had backed away to a distance I considered safe, I spoke again."Mason, you're right. Millie definitely loves you. I think you should go find her now. Here's the deal."I walked up to the lawyer who drafted the divorce agreements for me and handed Mason the divorce agreement that required him to leave the marriage with nothing."Mason, Millie's definite
