Chapter Fifty-Three

****

I didn’t go to the Sanctum that night.

Not because I was afraid.

But because I had learned the most dangerous lesson of all:

Power is nothing without patience.

If I vanished into the earth, if I sneaked into the hidden stair under the library, Morwen would notice. She was watching the edges of the world now, every flash of fire, every shadow that moved too fast, every student who stepped off the path.

And even if she didn’t know I found out about the mirror, she felt the shift.

Like a storm gathering behind closed doors.

So I waited.

I trained.

I smiled.

I laughed with Jason in the courtyard.

I sparred with Kael in the arena.

I even attended Morwen’s mandatory lecture on “Obedience and the Fragility of Power,” where she stared at me for three full minutes without blinking.

But I didn’t blink or move either.

I didn’t look away.

Because behind my eyes, she was watching too.

“She suspects something,” the twin whispered in my blood. “But she doesn’t know what. Keep

Chapter Fifty-Six**** I stood there scared and confused. The mirror remained cold and silent.I pressed harder, my breath started racing fast. “Twin? Can you hear me? Answer me please!”Then she laughed. The mirror blinked, and her face appeared smiling, her eyes burning with fire.“You should’ve seen your face,” she said. “Like the world had ended.”My heart was pounding. “You scared me.”I wanted to, she said, still smiling. “Fear keeps you sharp. And right now, Aria, you need to be sharp like a razor.I exhaled, trembling. “Don’t ever do that again.”Then stop underestimating me, she said. I didn’t go silent because I was gone. I went silent because she was listening.”Who? Morwen“Yes,the mirror isn’t just a door,” the twin said. “It’s a conduit. And if she focuses enough, she can hear whispers from the other side. So I stayed quiet. Let her think she’d broken the link. Let her believe what she's seeing.”“And now?”“Now,” she said, her smile starting to fade, “we move. Because

Chapter Fifty-Five****I took Jason to the our usual corner in the training ground'Kael knelt beside Jason on the cold stone, Jason laid helplessly on the stone, pale, trembling, and his breathing shallow. The burns on his chest faded to silvery scars, but the pain was still in his eyes.I stood a few feet away watching with my arms crossed.I haven't slept and no food has passed through my mouth since yesterday.Every nerve in my body screamed, urging me to run,to vanish into the shadows, to return to the mirror, to find her again. But I stayed.Because Jason was alive.Because he was free and Morwen was already hunting.Kael looked up as I walked towards them.“How?” he asked, voice low but sharp. “How did you get him out?”I didn’t answer.I knelt beside Jason. His eyes opened.“Aria?” he whispered.“I’m here,” I said.He tried to sit up, but Kael held him down.“Don’t move,” Kael said. “You’re not ready.”Jason ignored him. “They had me in the tower. Upper level with no guards, j

Chapter Fifty-four****Morwen didn’t sleep. She stood in the highest chamber of the eastern tower, her hands pressed against the surface of the scrying mirror, its glass was dark, It no longer showed her what she wanted to see.She only saw Aria vanish from the training yard in the morning. No record of her passing. No magic flare. No shadow-trace.Yet the Sanctum moved. The earth had trembled just once.Deep under the academy, the throne had hummed. And the mirror, in its silent way, had changed. But Morwen refused to believe what she's seeing."Aria is clever, she is fire in a world built on control but she's still human." She said to herself.Jason didn’t show up for morning drills.I noticed immediately. He was never late.He was never absent.Never silent.I scanned the yard, my heart raced slow, steady but I was tensedKael found me halfway, he pulled me into the armory.“She took him,” he said, voice low. “She said he was seen near the east wing at night. That he refused to dis

Chapter Fifty-Two****The next morning,no one spoke of the alarms. No one questioned Morwen’s fury. The sentries doubled. The lower halls were sealed with fresh wards crimson sigils that pulsed like veins beneath the stone. But I knew the truth. She wasn’t sealing the academy. She was trapping it.And she was watching me more closely than ever.I could feel it,the weight of her eyes, even when I was alone. The way the air thickened when I passed her tower. The way the shadows seemed to hesitate, as if they knew they were being spied on.But I had already moved beyond her sight.Because while she watched the crypt, the dorms, and the corridors…I was hunting something older.Something she thought no one would ever find.It started with a name.Scratched into the base of a crumbling pillar in the abandoned east wing: “Elira.”Not in the academy’s records. Not in the archives. But in the same hand that had marked my training blade with a hidden sigil weeks ago.I traced the letters. And

Chapter Fifty-One****Headmistress Morwen thought she had control. She thought her mirror showed her the truth. She thought Lira was loyal. She thought I was waiting. But I wasn’t waiting.I was moving. And I was ahead. At exactly 1:13 a.m., the first ward failed.Deep in the west archive, where Jason had planted false trails laced with residual fire-magic, the seal on the ancient chest scattered, not from force, but from decay. A slow, calculated unraveling. The kind that looked like natural failure. Not sabotage. The alarm didn’t sound. But the tracking thread moved. In her tower, Morwen was alerted. She turned to the scrying mirror.“Aria?” she whispered. But the image showed me still in my bed, breathing slow, eyes closed.Asleep.Lira’s voice came through the ether a moment later, calm, precise.“She hasn’t moved. No magic detected.”Morwen frowned. Then she turned to the west archive feed,a secondary scrying pane, smaller and darker. The one only she could access. There, she saw
