ROMAN
“Well try to get it done! I don't have all fucking day!”
“Yes My Lord."
Sometimes, I felt I was the only one with half a brain in this house. I had so many people around me and yet, none of them could think and do things without me asking or yelling.
“Where is Quinn?” I fought the urge to smack the guard who was staring at me.
Seeing the glare I was sending his way makes him snap out of it. He knows what I can do with my obvious bad mood.
The same thing is wrong. It's been wrong for the last twenty seven years and I'm sick of it, okay? I just wished I could find what I was looking for.
At this point, I may actually give up. Everyone around me had found their mates. Even people who turned eighteen after me had found their mates, got married and had kids but each year. I was getting closer and closer to the grave with no assurance of ever finding the one.
Was I going to be fifty when I had my first kid? Thinking about that made me uncomfortable.
You need to relax, okay? I'm sure you'll find her one day.
This was the positivity I hated. And it made me start resenting the voice in my head.
“It’s not eleven yet and you're already yelling? That's a new record. You normally wait till twelve to make our lives miserable.”
Quinn marched into the room with too wide a smile for my present mood.
“Listen, I'm not in the mood okay? Today has already gone to shit and I've barely even started any work.”
I felt very irritated and hot and uncomfortable and I just wanted to take a breather and be away from here.
“Relax okay? What's wrong with you? You've been acting strange lately."
I gave Quinn a look. I really didn't want to talk about it but at the same time, it might make things easier for me.
“You know what has been worrying me for the past twenty seven years. You've been telling me that shit for the past twenty seven years. I don't want to hear it, okay? If I don't find her this year, then I'm picking someone. Anybody.”
I knew I wasn't going to do that but at this point, I'm tired.
“Good. Then maybe finally, we could get married, '' Quinn jokes, wiggling her brows. “Except i would rather die than sleep with you.”
I shook my head at that because right now, I wasn't in the mood for humor.
“Okay listen” Quinn sat forward “I know the last thing you want to hear right now is my voice but that's all I can give you. You can't kill yourself just cause you haven't found your mate. There are loads of people who haven't found their mate and they're still doing good. I mean, look at me.” she pointed to herself.
“It's not the same."
“How?”
“You’re not an Alpha."
“I’m your Beta.”
“That's why it's not the same."
Quinn sighed and gave me a look that warned me that I was going to die if I kept talking. But this situation already has me feeling like that.
“I mean, look on the bright side. You're not celibate like me. You've been with every girl in this pack.”
Now that I heard someone else say it, it didn't sound as good as I thought it would. Kinda made me sound like a whore.
“That’s not a good thing and we both know it.”
Quinn nodded.
“It’s really not."
I was already in a very bad mood and this conversation was making it worse. I shouldn't have even bothered to have this conversation in the first place.
All those girls that I had been with had even made me feel worse than I was supposed to. It wasn't like they weren't beautiful or nice or all that. I had the best women as the alpha and a lycan.
As embarrassing as it sounds, they never got me off and at the end of the night. I had to finish off with my hand like a horny teen. It was embarrassing to me and I couldn't imagine even telling anyone else.
I was beginning to think that there was something wrong with me. Out of all the women I'd been with, no matter how appealing they looked, how wonderful they felt. I always ended up getting tired trying to finish on them while they enjoyed multiple orgasms.
I'd been with virgins and even people who have had crazy experiences. Professionals in the line of seduction. But they’d felt like plain water. And in the end, the feeling of never reaching the end hung over me like a death sentence.
You could imagine trying to sneeze. But never quite getting there. That has been my life for as long as I know.
That was until two nights ago.
Quinn's face lit up in excitement when I told her I had an assignment for her. I'd never seen anyone happy to work before. Until I met Quinn.
“You’re weird."
“Get on with it, man. It gives me something to do. I've been sitting at home all week!” she moans in frustration.
“You’re the one who didn't want to do anything I gave you to do."
“That's because they were minor tasks. All boring.” she scoffs. “You have people to do things like that for you. I’m your Beta, I deserve better. Now, get on with it.”
My eyes suddenly felt heavy and drowsy. It's no wonder, I hadn't slept well since that night.
“I need you to help me find her. The girl I was with on Monday."
Quinn looked at me like I had lost it.
“How the hell am I supposed to know who she is? What's wrong with you? Why do you want to find her?"
Quinn was a great bta, don’t get me wrong. Because of how inquisitive she was and how good she was at her job.
We met when she was hired to spy on me and she came to my back as a poor orphan. I had believed her before I found out who she actually was. Instead of pleading for her life, she offered her services to me.
We grew closer. When I realized I could trust her more than all the people I worked with. I made her my beta.
We’ve conquered packs together and risen to the top. Now, we are the most feared in the world.
But still, she got on my nerves to no end.
“Hello?” she snapped a finger in front of me, trying to gain my attention.
See, what I mean.
“What do you want with her?”
I opened my mouth but no words came out. She knows I never sleep with the same woman twice. They are all here for the same thing. For one thing. And once they don’t deliver, I get rid of them.
It wasn’t like me to ask for them. I barely even knew their name. Never bothered with it.
What was I going to say? I need you to find her because she was able to get me off. I was maybe obsessed with her because she had managed to do what others have been trying to do for years?
“She stole from me.”
That came out before I could even think about it but…oh well.
“She did what? Little bitch actually had the nerve.” she growled. “Oh well, what's her name?”
I thought back to that night in the bar. I was so carried away with her that I hadn't even bothered to know anything about her.
But I did hear the lady at the bar call her name as I walked her out of the bar.
“Eden. Her name is Eden.”
THIRD PERSON POVWhile everyone back home was looking for Roman, he was on the other side of the town, looking through his pockets and swearing that he carried his phone. The minister noticed that he was distracted.“Is there anything you need? Are you looking for something?”Roman looked up.“Yes, I'm sure that I carried my phone but now, I can't find it.”Roman knew that he would have gotten so many calls. He'd left the house very early and no one knew where he was.He didn't take any guard with him either.“Maybe it fell on the way."Of course, it did. With all those bullets raining on his head, why won't it fall out?It had been pure luck that he had escaped. He was almost at the minister's house when he noticed a car that he was sure he'd seen when he got off the highway. He'd rolled his eyes, not wanting to be involved in any of this today.“Can we do this in a week? I have something to do today.”What should he do now? He knew he couldn't avoid them.To make sure that he was ri
EDENIT was already seven pm and I still couldn't find him. I was ready and so was everyone else but he was nowhere to be found.I'd called him and so had Quinn but he wasn't picking up his calls at all.“Edem, are you sure he didn't tell you where he was going?”I thought back to last night and scrolled through our conversation.“No, I don't remember him saying anything about going anywhere. After I told him about the officiating minister, that was where the conversation ended. Nothing more happened.”Quinn came back.“His phone is switched off.”Wonderful, just great. Roman was missing on no other day than our wedding day.Where could he be? Even if he was stuck in traffic, he could at least pick up his phone.Or maybe he truly wasn't interested in getting married to me.But then he would have just said it then when I brought it up. Why didn't he say anything? He had the choice to reject me last night but he didn't.”Eden, don't worry. We'll find him in time for the wedding.”Alicia
EDENI woke up early that morning.Well, we didn't sleep after that.. we stayed up the entire night talking about everything we'd been through and it touched me.Eventually, I fell asleep on his shoulder and I didn't even know. I was sitting in his lap and I woke up on the bed.Alicia was standing above me .“Hey, wake up. Let's get you ready. Roman left the house really early this morning and I have to go back home to get a dress for myself. I mean, I can't wear this.”She had eye bags and her face was very dim. She has started crying again sometime during the night.”Alicia, sit down. We need to talk.”She was avoiding my eyes.“Eden, there's a lot to be done today. I mean, you don't even have a makeup artist or a hairstylist either. Your dress isn't here yet and the food isn't ready. There's a lot to be done.”I knew that all that wasn't truly her concern. She was just trying to avoid talking about me.“Alicia, please -”“Eden, there's no time. We need to get ready."I had to get
EDENWhen I finally got into the house later that night, I couldn't sleep so I just stared out the window at the stary night.Alicia had fallen asleep while feeding the kids so I would break the news to her tomorrow.I'd had to tell Quinn what had happened.“Really?! Was that why you were staring into the dark?””Yes, she was standing there. I'm not going to die, Quinn. I'm going to be here with my kids.”She pulled me in for a hug and held me tightly.“I'm so happy, Eden. You don't know how terrible I felt when you told me that. How can you die without watching your kids grow up?"I was just happy that I hadn't rushed to tell Roman anything that was going on.He was clearly exhausted because he didn't even wake up when I entered the room and when I got in the bed. I was equally so tired because I had spent a lot of time getting things ready today. My body was tired but my mind was still awake and buzzing.I was going to get married tomorrow. I should have told Quinn that we should ju
EDENWe got back home late that night.Mostly because we needed to pull ourselves so that we won't show that we've been crying.Everytime we finally stopped crying, Alicia started again and we started another whole process of consoling each other.“Please stop crying. I don't know what I'm going to do if you're like this.”She finally pulled herself together and we got into the car and drove back home.“Are you really not going to tell Roman?"“I don't have a plan to. I'm sorry, I just can't bring myself to tell him. He will be shattered, Alicia.”She still wasn't fine with it but she didn't say anything else until we got home.Alicia went into the house to check in on Roman and the kids while I went to the back of the house to check in on what Quinn was doing. She was actually on a chair and table with her legs up while eating everything she brought from the restaurant.“You seem to be enjoying yourself.”My voice frightened her.“Sorry about that.”“You guys surely took your time..
EDENWe'd ended up at a restaurant because the bar we wanted to go to was closed.Roman had already called me four times to ask Alicia questions about the twins and he sounded like he was about to lose it.“Let’s eat so much that we won't be able to walk again.”And that's what we did. I think we ordered everything in the menu and we basically had the chef at our call to make anything that we wanted. That was the first time I would be eating so much food in one day and it felt so good.“I don't think I can eat anymore. I'm so full.”Quinn had been the one to bring us here and now she was already full. Alicia's mood had changed and she wasn't speaking anymore.Quinn's phone rang and she stood up to answer it.“Alicia-”“What’s going on, Eden? And don't even tell me not to ask questions. Because you can't keep doing this. I'm your best friend. You have to be truthful.”What was sj to do at this point? I had no other choice than to tell her the truth. She deserved that much.“Balari came
