When I got back to Dahlia’s apartment, she was waiting in the living room like some kind of worried mother hen.

Her eyes went wide the moment she saw me.

“What the—where the hell have you been? Oh my God, Kamari… You’re covered in blood!”

I glanced down at myself and winced. I probably looked like I’d bathed in a slaughterhouse. It was a good thing that I had taken a more secret path on my way here, else it would be very hard explaining this to the cops.

“I tracked down the breed.” I kept walking, heading straight for the stairs. “Luckily, I was able to get what I needed from him.”

“Kamari, wait…” She scrambled to follow me, her voice rising. “What do you mean you got what you needed? What happened? Are you hurt? Is that your blood or his blood? Please tell me most of it is his blood.”

“I need some time alone,” I said as I marched up the stairs without looking back. “We’ll talk later.”
