Skye

I jerk away from Jace so quickly that my shoulder slams into the wall. “Ouch.” Heat floods my face.

Chloe’s eyes dart between us—Jace and me.

His hand still rests against the wall where my head had been just seconds ago.

Kimberly slowly blinks. “You two were about to kiss.”

“We were not!” I nearly shout.

Jace doesn’t deny it. He simply pushes himself away from the wall and stuffs both hands into his pockets.

Kimberly points dramatically between us. “You.” Then at me. “You.” Then back at him. “What exactly is going on here?”

I open my mouth. Nothing comes out because, honestly, I don’t know.

Jace answers instead. “We were talking.”

Kimberly snorts. “Really? Because from where I was standing, it looked like one very intense conversation.”

Jace merely shrugs. “If that’s what you want to call it.”

I shoot him a glare. “This is your fault.”

“I know.”

“You’ve completely ruined my life!”

“I know.”

“And you don’t even care!”

He looks at me for a second, long enough to make my heart skip, then says flatly, “I’ve got football practice.”

Before I can yell at him again, he walks past the three of us without another word.

Kimberly twists around. “That’s it? He just leaves?”

Neither of us get an answer. We watch him disappear down the hallway.

The silence he leaves behind is somehow worse. I sigh. “I…” I can’t do this. Not here. Not with people still walking through the hallway.

“I need to go.”

Without waiting for either of them, I turn and hurry toward the stairwell.

“Skye!” Chloe calls after me.

I don’t stop. Footsteps race behind me.

By the time I reach the courtyard outside the dormitories, both of them catch up. Kimberly grabs my arm.

“Okay.” She takes a deep breath. “Start talking.”

Chloe nods. “Everything.”

I stare at them—at the concern on their faces, the confusion, the hundred questions they’re trying not to ask all at once.

Tears prick my eyes again. “I don’t even know where to begin.”

Kimberly softens immediately. “Begin anywhere.”

Another long silence. Finally, “I…”

My fingers twist together. “I accidentally went into the wrong dorm room.”

Both girls blink. “What?”

“I was drunk.” My voice is barely audible. “I thought…” I close my eyes. “I thought it was mine.”

Neither of them interrupts.

“I wasn’t thinking straight.”

Chloe exchanges a glance with Kimberly. “So…” Kimberly asks carefully, “You spent the night in Jace’s room?”

I nod. Very slowly. Silence falls.

“So that’s why Tiffany…”

Another nod.

Chloe exhales loudly. “Oh…”

For the first time since they found me, neither of them jokes or teases me. They simply look heartbroken.

Chloe reaches over and squeezes my hand. “This wasn’t your fault.”

I almost laugh. “You don’t know what happened.”

Kimberly frowns. “Then tell us.”

I shake my head. “I can’t.”

“You can.”

“No…” Fresh tears spill down my cheeks. “You’ll hate me.”

Both girls look genuinely shocked. “Never,” Chloe says immediately.

“Not in a million years,” Kimberly agrees.

I bite my lip so hard it hurts. They deserve the truth. But saying it out loud somehow makes it real.

I take a shaky breath. “I didn’t just spend the night in his room…” My voice breaks. “I…” The words refuse to come.

Kimberly’s eyes slowly widen. Chloe’s face loses color, yet neither of them says a word. They’re waiting. Waiting for me to finish.

I squeeze my eyes shut. “I think…” My lips tremble. “I made the biggest mistake of my life.”

Silence. The words hang between us like a storm cloud. Neither Chloe nor Kimberly speaks.

For the first time since I’ve known them, they’re speechless.

Kimberly is the first to recover. “What do you mean?”

I lower my head, unable to meet either of their eyes. “I…” The memory crashes into me all over again. Waking up. The strange room. The tattoo wrapped around his neck. The blood on the sheets.

Jace’s horrified expression when he realized I had been a virgin.

Fresh tears sting my eyes. “I…” My voice cracks. “I slept with him.”

The world seems to stop. Kimberly’s mouth falls open. Chloe blinks once, then twice.

“No…” Kimberly whispers.

I nod. Another tear slides down my cheek. “I did.”

“But…” Chloe struggles to find her words. “How?”

“I don’t know.”

“You don’t know?” Kimberly almost squeaks.

“I was drunk. So was he. I thought…” I swallow painfully. “I thought he was Ethan.”

Both girls freeze. Completely.

Kimberly’s eyes grow so wide I think they might actually pop out. “You…” She points at me. “Thought that Jace was Ethan?”

I nod miserably. “It was dark. I wasn’t thinking. I could barely stand.”

“My God…” Kimberly presses both hands over her mouth.

Chloe is still staring at me. “So…” She speaks carefully. “He didn’t…” She can’t even finish the sentence.

I know exactly what she’s asking. I shake my head immediately. “No, he never forced me; he was drunk too. He thought I was someone else.”

For several seconds, nobody speaks. The only sound is the wind rustling through the trees lining the courtyard.

Kimberly suddenly lets out a long breath. “So it was an accident.”

I nod. “The biggest accident of my life.”

Chloe’s expression softens. “Oh, Skye…” Before I know it, she’s pulling me into a hug.

I don’t even try to hold back anymore. Everything I’ve been bottling up since this morning spills over. “I ruined everything.”

“You didn’t,” Chloe says firmly.

“I did. I confessed to Ethan. I got rejected. I slept with his brother. Now the entire school thinks I’m dating Jace. I ruined everything.”

Kimberly kneels beside us. “No.” She gently wipes away one of my tears. “You made a mistake. That’s different.”

“It doesn’t feel different.”

“It never does.”

I pull away from Chloe and wipe my face. “What am I supposed to do now?”

Neither of them answers immediately.

Finally, Kimberly says quietly, “Maybe you should tell Jace the truth.”

I stare at her. “What truth?”

“That this fake relationship can’t happen.”

A bitter laugh escapes me. “You think he cares what I want?”

The image of him pinning me against the wall flashes through my mind.

“You are my girlfriend now.”

My cheeks burn all over again. “He doesn’t listen. He decides. He always has.”

Chloe exchanges a worried glance with Kimberly. “So what are you going to do?”

I look toward the football field in the distance. “I’ll tell everyone the truth.”

  • Accidentally in bed with the wrong brother   Chapter 15: Hope you enjoy my leftovers.

Skye By the time Chloe, Kimberly, and I reach the academic building the next morning, my stomach is already in knots. Every step down the hallway feels heavier than the last. People stop talking when they see me. Then they start whispering again the second I walk past. “That’s her.” “Jace Knight’s girlfriend.” “I thought he was dating Tiffany.” “No, Tiffany got dumped.” “I heard Skye stole him.” “I heard they slept together.” Heat creeps up my neck. I keep my head down and pretend I can’t hear any of it. Kimberly immediately hooks her arm through mine. “Eyes forward,” she mutters. “Don’t give them the satisfaction.” I nod, even though my chest already hurts. The moment we enter the lecture hall, conversations stop. Not one. Not two. The entire room. Dozens of eyes turn toward me. Some curious. Some amused. Some openly judgmental. I suddenly regret coming. “There she is.” Someone whistles. Another student claps dramatically. “Oh look, the queen arrived.” A few people lau

Skye I don’t remember how I make it back to my dorm. One minute I’m standing in the middle of the football stadium. The next, I’m climbing the stairs to the third floor with legs that don’t feel like mine. The hallway is unusually quiet. Most students are still outside enjoying the cool evening air. I should probably be relieved. I don’t think I can survive another whisper today. My key trembles slightly as I unlock the door. The moment it clicks open, I step inside and quietly shut the world out. Silence. Real silence. For the first time all day. I drop my backpack onto the floor without caring where it lands. My phone vibrates immediately. Then again. And again. I don’t need to look. I already know. The post. The comments. The messages. The rumors. They’re multiplying by the second. I walk over to my bed and collapse face-first into the mattress. The soft pillow muffles the shaky breath that escapes me. “What have I done?” Nobody answers. Of course nobody does.

  • Accidentally in bed with the wrong brother   Chapter 13: Congratulations.

Skye Jace is not wearing the football jersey anymore. Instead, he has on a plain black T-shirt that clings to his broad shoulders, his damp hair pushed back as though he’d just showered. The setting sun cast long shadows across the empty stadium, making his gray eyes look almost silver. These things never affected me before. I've known Jace since forever and I never noticed how breathtaking he is. What the hell is wrong with me? I shake my head, refusing to succumb to this stupidity. Jace looks at me without surprise. “I knew you would come.” The confidence in his voice immediately irritates me. “You are so full of yourself.” The corner of his mouth twitches, “Thanks for the compliment.” I fold my arms, “I haven't even agreed.” “No? Then why are you here? Miss me?” My nose wrinkles in disgust, I would rather jump off the bridge. I open my mouth to say something. Nothing comes out. Yet his question hangs in the air. Why am I here? After several awkward seco

Skye “I won't do it.” The words leave my mouth before I can second-guess them. Jace doesn't react. He watches me with those unreadable gray eyes, as if he’d expected that answer all along. “I’m not going to pretend to be your girlfriend Jace,” I say, making sure he heard me quite well. Silence falls. The breeze sweeps across the football field, lifting loose strands of my hair into my face. Around us, the last two players are leaving practice, throwing curious glances our way before disappearing into locker rooms. Jace finally slips his phone back into his pockets “Fine.” I blink, “Fine?” “You made your choice.” his voice is calm. Too calm. He brushes past me without another word. For a second, I simply stand there, staring after him. That’s it? No sarcastic remark. No argument. No trying to convince me. He just…. Walks away. Something about it unsettles me far more than if he’d kept fighting. My eyes follow his retreating figure until he disappears bene

Jace The first thing Mason does is punch me in the shoulder. Hard. “What the hell was that for?” I shove him away. He grins, “For making the greatest announcement in Royal Haven history.” The rest of them burst into laughter. We had barely finished football practice when every single phone on the field started buzzing. Nobody cared about the drill anymore. Nobody cared about the championship. They only cared about one thing. Me. I grab my water bottle and empty half of it down my throat. “So….”Logan drawls, throwing an arm around my shoulders. “You have finally gotten yourself a girlfriend?” “I’ve had girlfriends.” “Not the one you announced to the entire campus.” The guys whistle. Mason pulls out his phone, “Listen to this,” he clears his throat dramatically, “Jace Knight publicly claims mysterious freshman after dumping queen bee Tiffany Bentley.” Another person whistles. Logan laughs, “Man, you’ve got the entire campus losing its mind.” I snatch t

Skye Kimberly’s face pales. “Skye…” “I have to.” “I can’t pretend to be his girlfriend.” “He’ll get over it.” “So will the school.” Before either of them can argue, my phone vibrates inside my pocket. Once. Twice. Three times. I frown. Slowly, I pull it out and The screen lights up. ROYAL HAVEN STUDENT FORUM PINNED POST Official announcement. Jace Knight: “ Skye Bennett is my girlfriend. Anyone who has a problem with that can deal with me.” Below it, Over two thousand likes. Hundreds of comments. And still climbing. My blood runs cold. Kimberly leans over my shoulder. “Oh…” Chloe reads the screen. “He actually meant it.” I stare at my phone so long my eyes begin to burn. What sort of problem is this? Even after the screen goes black, I still continue to stare at it. Several moment pass, nobody speaks. Not me. Not Chloe. Not Kimberly. The only sound is the distant whistle from the football field. Kimberly is the first to break the silence. “He actually posted it.”
