ANMELDENThe message was simple enough. She was to attend a party that Saturday by some dude named Harrison, but if she considered going to the party, the mystery figure would reveal his identity and she could finally see who had been behind the mask all these years!
Who could it be? Being an orphan, she was clear she had no family anywhere at all, and her only friend had been Lily, who she had grown up with. Then Brad, but why would Brad ever want to help her?? That moron was trying everything to ruin her at the slightest chance he got. "Wait," Alison read through the message over again, picking in the little details. The owner of the biggest automobile company in Maeville, Harbord company, was the one celebrating his birthday. But then, she had just gotten an invitation from that handsome man at the mall! Not wasting any time, she hurried to check her purse, rummaging through it to find that invitation she had gotten from Richard. And there it was. Richard Harrison. Thirty-fifth birthday. Fear crept through her veins as the instant thought she had was that this mystery texter could have been following her? Stalking her? How had he known that she would receive an invitation-- Another message beeped in and she could see it was an online invitation card, but just for ordinary guests. Not a VIP card. Was that to ease her mind? To make her feel like he hasn't been stalking her? Besides, who was this mystery man? "I need to find out." She said firmly. "Before anything then, I guess I'll have to call you Celine. To get a badass dinner dress ready to go." Something interesting seemed to be happening all at the same time because now, Alison was getting a call from Mira again. "Damn it, Mira." Alison muttered before picking up. "Hey there. You're calling again, even though I was sure we agreed to talk till tomorrow?? What's up now?" She asked, not trying to hide her anger. Mira was like a little sister to her now, though because of her betrayal with Lily and Brad, she had decided to keep people at a distance now. She didn't even trust to get any live in maids, or workers at all so she lived all by herself. Celine and Mira along with a few staff were all friendly, but Alison made sure she kept their relationship to be strictly professional. Though Mira and Celine were closer to her than others. Still, she never even disclosed where she lived to either of them ever. "Ohh. I'm sorry for bothering you again. It's just that I'm out at this bar, and I'm meeting someone pretty interesting here! She says you two used to be best friends before you relocated from Brooklyn! So I just thought about giving her the phone. She is also a huge fan of your work, ma'am!" Alison's frown was growing so deep now. Her palm was a ball of rage and she didn't like the way her teeth barred. How dare Mira act like they were buddies?? She should fire her as soon as she can and hire someone new, because what the heck! Then she heard another voice. The same soft sweet voice that would tell her she was confused on what to eat, so that Alison would cook for her. The same voice that cheered her on when no one else did. That same voice that said 'I do' to her own husband! Behind her back! Her breathing was growing rasped now, every anger nerve on her reaching high. "Hey Alison, it's been so long! I've missed you, can we meet up?" Lily said, and that witch even had the nerves to giggle. "You're so fired, Mira." Alison promised to herself. "You're so fired." "Are you there? Alison?" The only thoughts ringing in her head now was how to click the search button asking 'how to kill a person and get away with it?' And no one was safe now. Not Mira, not Lily. Not any of the Cambridge.Richard’s shoulders relaxed a little, a helpless chuckle escaping his lips as he gave his daughter an obedient nod. "Alright, boss. Message received."Maggie offered him a satisfied nod of approval.Alison watched the exchange with growing amusement. “She’s really the boss around here, isn’t she?”“You have no idea.” Richard leaned back in his chair with a resigned smile. “Lately she sounds exactly like my mom.”"Maybe your mom is just the only one who knows how to keep you in line," Alison teased, her lips curving into a bright smile. “By the way, why did you—”She was cut off again after asking for like the third time by Maggie whispering something to her dad's ears. Not wanting the conversation to drift back to whatever mysterious reason had brought Richard over, Alison reached for the pet magazine she’d left on the coffee table earlier. She flipped through a few pages before sliding it in front of Maggie. “Here, help me out with an important task, Maggie.”Maggie’s eyes immediatel
Alison's mouth opened, then closed again. Great. Her brain had officially clocked out.She cleared her throat. "I... yeah. Um... excuse me."Before she could embarrass herself any further, she spun around and hurried toward her bedroom, shutting the door behind her.Alison pressed her back against it and groaned, covering her face with both hands. "Oh my God," she muttered into her palms.Did he really have to say that? And why did her heart suddenly think it was training for a marathon?Alison rushed to the mirror and nearly cried out loud. A streak of red sauce stretched across her cheek. She rubbed at it with her thumb, frowning. "Seriously?" She looked down at her hand. "I didn't even cook." A laugh escaped her as she reached up to flatten the frizzy strands escaping her bun. "Look at you. You look like a winner at a food fight and that's when he decides to flirt?"She sighed dramatically."You are Ally F. Rose," she told her reflection, pointing a finger at herself. "You own best
Alison stared at her phone, her thumb hovering over Richard Harrison's contact. Her heart hammered in her chest. "Damn it!" A heavy sigh followed. "What? Is this me missing him? Or what—"The phone suddenly vibrated in her palm, the screen lighting up with his name. Her eyes widened. "Huh? Well, would you look at that." She ignored the way her heart suddenly skipped a bit, and answered on the very first ring. Her voice rushed out in a breathless wave. "Richard? Oh, thank goodness." She cleared her throat loudly. "Um, what I'm saying is this. Richard, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry for everything I said, and please... please tell Maggie I am so incredibly sorry too—""Alison," Richard's deep voice cut her off, my little Rose. "Save the apologies for later. Prepare something delicious for me. I'm starving."Alison blinked, her brain scrambling to process his words. "What? You... you want me to cook?"Huh? At least she was still his little Rose. He didn't sound...angry?"And Maggie too. S
"You yelled at me and chased me away. We were having a simple conversation and the next thing, you chased me out of your office." Alison blinked. She had not remembered it like that per se. "I wasn't expecting a thank you because I cleared your name for me too. So the Harrison empire wouldn't be susceptible to stupid rumors like that. But I did not deserve the way you chased me away like that." "I didn't..." She stopped herself before she would say something else she would regret. "I'm sorry." That was all she could say to him. "Okay, Alison. Well, goodnight," he said before hanging up, shattering her heart into pieces. The next morning, Alison did not want their last conversation to be just...that. If Richard was going to yell at her, if he was going to be mad at her, let him see her first and tell her face to face. The cold air made her skin tingle, but she was glad she had on that thick coat. Shivering, she raised her hand up to click on the doorbell, but the door opened alre
Alison nodded as Celine kept talking. She didn't deny it; half of what the woman told her did not click. At all.She kept thinking about what Richard had said. She tried to shrug it off many times, but it was still stuck on her mind."Now, this is a very intriguing question..." Celine frowned, taking turns with Mira as they exchanged shocked glances. "Alison?"She blinked at the mention of her name. "What? Oh, I heard you."Celine's face hardened. "What did I say? Huh?" She turned to face Mira. "Talk to her. This is crazy."Mira sighed. "Alison?"But Alison cut her off. "I'm here, I'm listening! Besides, this is almost 4 p.m. The damage control worked, Richard saved us all. Didn't he?"He'd cut out every rumor, demanding that whoever had dared raise the false accusations would be dealt with. In fact, the only reason that had been seen as some cruel threat (as Celine had presented, before releasing her shots and short stories on "About the Author" that had gained tons of agencies reach
Brad was angry at Lily when she texted him, saying they needed to meet urgently. He only went because his mother had told him to.At the hotel, he sat next to his mother, both of them looking at Lily as she went on. "But it's all settled now because Alison will pay for her crimes."Desiree burst out laughing brightly. "Oh, would you look at that. Apparently, she isn't as dumb as we thought she was."Lily winced, but she shrugged off that insult since it resembled a compliment. She then noticed only Desiree had been excited. "Babe, can you believe what kind of person Alison really is?"Brad wanted to compose himself, but his wrath was too much to hide. "And you're both here celebrating after implicating a poor woman?"His statement not only startled Lily, but Desiree as well. She stepped up, cutting off whatever Lily had to say. "True, that's kind of an issue. Especially seeing as it ties us to the Harrisons. If things go wrong..."Lily frowned. "Go wrong? I've just exposed a fraud. Wh
Alison looked stunned, but who looked even more shocked was Ella. "Mr Richard Harrison!" She screamed out,"it's such a pleasure to--"But Richard wasn't having any of that. He walked straight to Alison and Mira. Brad and his mother along with Lily all just stared in surprise."Alison, are you alri
Alison didn't have enough time before the first man got closer and squeezed her hand tight, dragging her out. "Hey, let go of me!" She demanded. All this while, Mira was grunting beside her while Alison warned her with serious side glances. Not yet. Of course she knew that the Cambridge were her
Alison's mind had already began to race. That matter of urgency was giving her a heart attack already. What could have possibly gone wrong! Was it the Dark man raging war on her already! Because he was a local thug..no one messed with him. Once outside, she had already summoned confidence and was
Brad shouted, not caring if his words her hurt Lily or not. "I don't give a fuck about you! You're tired? Then fucking sign the divorce papers I've been throwing at your face since eight months now. I want kids, you can't give me that. We're running on the edge of bankruptcy, and you can't even sav
