LOGINThe message was simple enough. She was to attend a party that Saturday by some dude named Harrison, but if she considered going to the party, the mystery figure would reveal his identity and she could finally see who had been behind the mask all these years!
Who could it be? Being an orphan, she was clear she had no family anywhere at all, and her only friend had been Lily, who she had grown up with. Then Brad, but why would Brad ever want to help her?? That moron was trying everything to ruin her at the slightest chance he got. "Wait," Alison read through the message over again, picking in the little details. The owner of the biggest automobile company in Maeville, Harbord company, was the one celebrating his birthday. But then, she had just gotten an invitation from that handsome man at the mall! Not wasting any time, she hurried to check her purse, rummaging through it to find that invitation she had gotten from Richard. And there it was. Richard Harrison. Thirty-fifth birthday. Fear crept through her veins as the instant thought she had was that this mystery texter could have been following her? Stalking her? How had he known that she would receive an invitation-- Another message beeped in and she could see it was an online invitation card, but just for ordinary guests. Not a VIP card. Was that to ease her mind? To make her feel like he hasn't been stalking her? Besides, who was this mystery man? "I need to find out." She said firmly. "Before anything then, I guess I'll have to call you Celine. To get a badass dinner dress ready to go." Something interesting seemed to be happening all at the same time because now, Alison was getting a call from Mira again. "Damn it, Mira." Alison muttered before picking up. "Hey there. You're calling again, even though I was sure we agreed to talk till tomorrow?? What's up now?" She asked, not trying to hide her anger. Mira was like a little sister to her now, though because of her betrayal with Lily and Brad, she had decided to keep people at a distance now. She didn't even trust to get any live in maids, or workers at all so she lived all by herself. Celine and Mira along with a few staff were all friendly, but Alison made sure she kept their relationship to be strictly professional. Though Mira and Celine were closer to her than others. Still, she never even disclosed where she lived to either of them ever. "Ohh. I'm sorry for bothering you again. It's just that I'm out at this bar, and I'm meeting someone pretty interesting here! She says you two used to be best friends before you relocated from Brooklyn! So I just thought about giving her the phone. She is also a huge fan of your work, ma'am!" Alison's frown was growing so deep now. Her palm was a ball of rage and she didn't like the way her teeth barred. How dare Mira act like they were buddies?? She should fire her as soon as she can and hire someone new, because what the heck! Then she heard another voice. The same soft sweet voice that would tell her she was confused on what to eat, so that Alison would cook for her. The same voice that cheered her on when no one else did. That same voice that said 'I do' to her own husband! Behind her back! Her breathing was growing rasped now, every anger nerve on her reaching high. "Hey Alison, it's been so long! I've missed you, can we meet up?" Lily said, and that witch even had the nerves to giggle. "You're so fired, Mira." Alison promised to herself. "You're so fired." "Are you there? Alison?" The only thoughts ringing in her head now was how to click the search button asking 'how to kill a person and get away with it?' And no one was safe now. Not Mira, not Lily. Not any of the Cambridge.Lily's hands wouldn't stop shaking. She stood behind the filthy window, barely to breathe as she watched everything unravel outside. Those idiots hadn't even managed to drag Alison inside before Richard Harrison showed up. One after another, the men she'd paid crashed to the floor until not even one of them was left standing."What the hell..." she whispered. Richard wasn't supposed to be here. He was supposed to be buried in meetings. So why was he here now?Her fingers fumbled so badly she nearly dropped her phone as she scrolled through her contacts until she hit Brad's number. He answered after several rings. "Lily, what's up?""Brad!" Lily cried out at once, her voice breaking out. "There are some people here! And they're beating everyone up. You have to get over here before they kill me!"Silence stretched that lily had to check her phone again to confirm if the call was still connected. Then came a long, tired sigh. "Lily.""No, listen to me!" She pressed herself farther again
Richard stood still, his eyes locking on the black SUV disappearing into traffic. For one impossible second, his mind refused to accept what he’d just witnessed. The SUV was already disappearing into the traffic when Richard suddenly snapped back to reality. His gaze darted towards the rear of the vehicle, locking onto the plate number just before another car blocked his view. He repeated the numbers silently, burning them into his memory. Then rushed back to the car, “Follow them!” he hushed the driver who had seen what had just happened too.As the car lurched forward, Richard found the lady that had been with Alison and asked the driver to stop, then recognizing her, he hurried her to get in. Mira hesitated for half a second before climbing into the back seat, breathing hard.Richard never took his eyes off the road ahead. Every traffic light felt too long. “What happened?” he demanded at last after seeing Mira had been more calm. “Who were those men?”Mira swallowed, still trying
Richard stared at Monique’s message for a long moment before letting out a tired breath.“I want Maggie over for a week, my birthday week. I'll be coming next month to get her.”His expression didn’t even change. His fingers moved across the keyboard almost on instinct and he typed out, “No.”He locked the phone before she could reply and reached for the stack of documents waiting on his desk. There was no point entertaining the conversation. Maggie wasn’t spending a week away from home simply because Monique had decided she wanted company. The next few hours blurred together in a parade of presentations, revised contracts, financial reports, and questions that seemed to multiply every time one was answered. By the time the last investor finally stood to shake his hand, Richard could feel the exhaustion settling into his shoulders. He waited until the conference room had emptied before checking the time; 4:59 p.m. “So much for an early day.” Richard leaned back in his chair and close
Alison's thumb hovered over Richard's name.Another loud bang rattled the front door, making her flinch so hard she almost dropped her phone. "Damn it!" Her heart was pounding heavily. She'd spent half the night convincing herself there wasn't a masked man lurking outside her apartment, and now she was seconds away from calling Richard because someone knocked a little too hard? The banging came again. "Alison!"The familiar voice caused her to freeze still. "...Mira?"A muffled groan answered from the other side. "Yes, it's me! Are you planning to let me in, or should I move into the hallway?"Relief swept through her so fast that she almost laughed."Mira, what the hell are you..." She shook her head and hurried to unlock the door. Mira stood there with one hand still raised from knocking, the other balancing a laptop bag on her shoulder. The moment the door opened, she looked Alison up and down before letting out a long, exaggerated sigh. "There you are at last."Alison pressed a h
“I don't think anyone is there, Richard.” Alison said, and frowned because it felt like she'd been repeating herself for the tenth time.Richard's face was completely hardened as he dialed his phone, reaching someone. Alison pulled Maggie closer, assuring her all was well. “I'm sure it's just some friendly neighbor or something.”“Neighbors? Do you have neighbors?” Maggie asked, raising a brow. Her lips pressed as she thought of another way to calm her down. “Um, okay.” She knelt down to match her height. “I know you saw someone. But they're gone now, right? I'm just saying, I don't think it was some bad man you saw.”Maggie sighed, nodding slightly. Then she began to describe the image of the person she saw. The descriptions she gave caused Alison's mouth to hang open in shock.Tall man on mask, piercing eyes? Looks expensive?Jimmy.Suddenly, she heard her own name from Maggie and gave a start. “Huh? Did you call me?”Maggie flashed her a suspicious stare, “you kinda blacked out. Ar
Richard’s shoulders relaxed a little, a helpless chuckle escaping his lips as he gave his daughter an obedient nod. "Alright, boss. Message received."Maggie offered him a satisfied nod of approval.Alison watched the exchange with growing amusement. “She’s really the boss around here, isn’t she?”“You have no idea.” Richard leaned back in his chair with a resigned smile. “Lately she sounds exactly like my mom.”"Maybe your mom is just the only one who knows how to keep you in line," Alison teased, her lips curving into a bright smile. “By the way, why did you—”She was cut off again after asking for like the third time by Maggie whispering something to her dad's ears. Not wanting the conversation to drift back to whatever mysterious reason had brought Richard over, Alison reached for the pet magazine she’d left on the coffee table earlier. She flipped through a few pages before sliding it in front of Maggie. “Here, help me out with an important task, Maggie.”Maggie’s eyes immediatel
Alison looked stunned, but who looked even more shocked was Ella. "Mr Richard Harrison!" She screamed out,"it's such a pleasure to--"But Richard wasn't having any of that. He walked straight to Alison and Mira. Brad and his mother along with Lily all just stared in surprise."Alison, are you alri
Alison didn't have enough time before the first man got closer and squeezed her hand tight, dragging her out. "Hey, let go of me!" She demanded. All this while, Mira was grunting beside her while Alison warned her with serious side glances. Not yet. Of course she knew that the Cambridge were her
Alison's mind had already began to race. That matter of urgency was giving her a heart attack already. What could have possibly gone wrong! Was it the Dark man raging war on her already! Because he was a local thug..no one messed with him. Once outside, she had already summoned confidence and was
Brad shouted, not caring if his words her hurt Lily or not. "I don't give a fuck about you! You're tired? Then fucking sign the divorce papers I've been throwing at your face since eight months now. I want kids, you can't give me that. We're running on the edge of bankruptcy, and you can't even sav
