Aurelia’s POV

I immediately called him.

“You didn’t have to go through all this trouble,” I said softly. My voice came out smaller than I intended.

“It’s no trouble at all,” he replied. “It’s my way of showing support.”

“Thank you,” I whispered. “It’s a lot.”

“Do you like your teddy?” he asked, a teasing smile hidden somewhere in his tone.

I laughed, the sound warm and genuine. “It’s way bigger than I thought.”

“Well, that’s why I got it,” he said.

“Thank you,” I repeated, meaning it more this time.

“Goodnight, Aurelia.”

“Goodnight.”

When the call ended, I stayed still, holding the phone like it was his hand. There was something comforting about his voice, something that steadied me in a way I didn’t expect.

That night, I slept better than I had in weeks, hugging the giant teddy, cocooned in quiet peace and the soft echo of kindness.

The next morning, I woke up early and went home to cook for Oliver. The kitchen was quiet, sunlight slipping through the curtains like golden ribbons. I

Julien’s POVAfter telling my parents I’d accepted the decision, they were delighted, especially my mother. She finally got what she wanted.I couldn’t sack Mr. Brooke outright; the man had done nothing wrong. But Isolde was relentless. She wanted the title of financial manager, and she wanted it publicly. So I transferred Brooke to Blackveil, where the former manager had just been dismissed for embezzlement. When I introduced Isolde to the staff, a faint pang of guilt cut through me. Aurelia was there, sitting quietly, eyes unreadable, calm in a way that made me feel anything but. She didn’t say a word. And somehow, that silence hit harder than anger ever could. After work, Isolde walked into my office without knocking, her perfume arriving before her voice.“I suppose you people do a welcoming dinner for new staff?” she asked, smiling like she already knew the answer.“Yes,” I said, not looking up from my desk. “You can have the dinner with your team members.”She scoffed, an ugly l

Aurelia’s POVThe next morning, the chauffeur arrived to pick Oliver up for school. He looked so small with his backpack strapped on, his lips pursed in a faint pout. “I’ll miss you, Mommy,” he murmured.I bent down, hugged him tight, and kissed his cheek. “Don’t worry, weekend will come before you know it,” I whispered, smoothing his hair.He nodded, though his eyes still clung to me as he got into the car. I watched until the black sedan disappeared down the street, then turned back inside to get ready for work.At the office, I tried to focus on the files in front of me, but my thoughts kept drifting, to Oliver, to Julien, to everything spinning quietly around me.My phone buzzed, snapping me out of it.“Hello?”“Aurelia.” Grant’s voice came through the line, smooth but with that familiar edge. “Is Oliver in school?”“Yes. They resumed today,” I replied, flipping a page in the file to keep my hands busy. “You can pick him up after school.”“You should’ve told me before now.”“I gue

Aurelia’s POVJulien cleared his throat, voice steady but sharp enough to slice through the air.“I called this impromptu meeting because there’s been a major change,” he announced. “We have a new financial manager.”He didn’t even glance my way before she stepped forward, heels clicking, perfume cutting through the tension like poison dressed in silk.“Yes,” she said, lips curling into a smug smile. “My name is Isolde Cyrus. I’m his…”Julien I interrupted her. “Because she just got into office, I ask that you all please cooperate with her.”She let out a soft scoff. “As if they have a choice.”A hush fell. No one dared breathe.“That will be all for now,” Julien said curtly. “You’re dismissed.”He was the first to walk out. She followed behind him, and just before she stepped through the door, her eyes found mine.A spark. Recognition. I tilted my head slightly and gave a knowing smirk. Of course she knew me.After they left, the rest trickled out in uneasy silence. Cassia and I were

Aurelia’s POVAfter Julien left, I sat on the couch staring at the space he’d just occupied, the faint scent of his cologne still clinging to the air. After Oliver went to bed I called Cassia. The moment she picked up, I didn’t even finish explaining before she exploded.“Aurelia, are you out of your mind?!” she yelled so loud I had to pull the phone from my ear.“Cassia, please, I swear I hate all of this.” My voice cracked. “But you know he came through for me when no one else did. I don't even want to imagine how much he had to spend to clean that up.”She went quiet for a moment, then sighed. “You’re right. Plus Julien isn’t the kind to make rash decisions. He must’ve had sleepless nights trying to fix this mess.”“Exactly.” My fingers twisted the edge of the bedsheet. “I hate that I’m the reason he’s even considering this ridiculous plan.”“Aure, stop it. You didn’t ask for this. You know one idiot started all of this.” Her tone softened. “Wait, there’s still no trace of who did

Aurelia’s POVFor a moment, I couldn’t even speak. My throat went dry, and I could feel my pulse pounding in my ears.“I don’t…” he started, rubbing the back of his neck. “Let me explain it to you.”His tone was steady but heavy, like every word cost him something.“I could sell off the company now, but if I do, the market will devour me,” he said, his jaw tightening. “We’re at a disadvantage. The stock’s plummeting, any sale right now will go below value. After paying debts, settlements, employee compensation… I’d lose everything.”I tried to nod, but my mind was spinning. I didn’t understand half of what he was saying, all I heard was lose everything.“The woman in question,” he continued, his voice lower, “her family owns the largest shares in the company after mine. They’re old money, Aurelia, one of the top five conglomerates in the city. If I align with them, even temporarily, the market will react. The stocks will rise again, investors will relax, and I’ll have time to pull out

Aurelia’s POVBy morning, the scandal and the photos felt like a distant memory. The cabin’s peace had worked its magic, the kind of calm that settles into your chest and doesn’t leave. I wished we could stay longer, but I didn’t mention it; I knew Julien would be busy with work.Early, he drove us back to the city, it took about two hours. We dressed for work, we had breakfast, then we slid into the car. We were late, not that it mattered. As he held my hand on the steering wheel, he leaned in to kiss it softly over and over. “Do you feel better than yesterday?” he asked.I smiled, warmth bubbling in my chest. “You know I do. Do you?” I asked him in return. He gave me a small, teasing smile. “Yes, baby.”I could hear it in his voice, lighter, calmer than yesterday, and it made me happy, like the storm outside couldn’t touch us.When we pulled into the office parking lot, my car was there, untouched, waiting patiently as if it had known I’d return. He carried my bag. When we reached
