Chapter 1355

Author: Summer Knowles
The psychiatric hospital was even more heavily secured than the cemetery.

Beyond the iron gate stood a towering metal fence, thick and reinforced, its top lined with sharp spikes. It even appeared to be electrified.

Sarah stepped inside.

Doctors and nurses moved briskly through the corridors, busy with their rounds. A few patients lingered in the hallways, their curious gazes drifting toward her.

One man wearing a pig-faced mask stared at her intensely.

“Are you Lucifer?” he cried dramatica

The detective stepped in smoothly. “Doctor, we came from her birthtown. It’s normal that you haven’t seen us before.”The doctor did not relax. “You won’t be able to see her today. She had an episode earlier. She’s been placed in the treatment room and is currently restrained for her own safety. During treatment, visits are prohibited. Especially under circumstances like this.”The nurse seemed slightly puzzled, but she did not question him.“When will she be taken out of restraints?” Sarah asked.“That depends on her condition,” the doctor replied curtly. “It could be a day or two. It could be a week.”With that, he turned and left, clearly unwilling to explain further. The nurse offered an apologetic smile. “I’m really sorry. I didn’t expect her to suddenly relapse like that. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have brought you in for nothing.”“Does she relapse often?” Sarah asked quietly. The nurse thought for a moment and shook her head. “Not really. She’s been here nearly four years. Are you my mom? You look just like my mom!”He smiled foolishly and trailed behind her, though he did not attempt to get too close.Sarah’s nerves tightened. She had come here quietly on purpose. She did no

“You probably did your research before coming,” the salesman continued enthusiastically. “When buying a burial plot, the most important thing is the environment. I don’t know who you’re purchasing it for, but no matter who it’s for, the surroundings matter. No one wants to rest in a run-down place, right?”Finally, he paused for breath.Sarah seized the moment and spoke quickly. “I’m not here to buy a plot. I’m looking for someone. Do you know Darryl? Where is he? I need to see him urgently.”The salesman blinked, scratching his head in confusion. “A few days ago, someone else came asking for Darryl. I don’t know what they talked about, but after that meeting, he seemed… off.”A gossipy look crept onto his face. He leaned closer and lowered his voice. “Miss, can I ask what you want with him? You don’t have to tell me everything. Just a little. Maybe I could help.”Sarah glanced at him calmly, then shifted her gaze back across the cemetery grounds. Her tone remained steady.“That’

Sarah sat alone in a private room at a quiet tea house. She leaned back in her chair, her eyes slightly lowered. There was an invisible barrier around her, a clear signal that strangers should keep their distance. After about five minutes, someone walked in without hesitation and took the seat across from her.“Miss Sanders. Sorry to keep you waiting.”Sarah looked up at the middle-aged man in a black trench coat. “What did you find?”The man took an unhurried sip of tea, frowned slightly, and murmured, “It’s gone cold.”Sarah stared at him for a second, speechless. Then she snapped her fingers and raised her voice toward the door. “Excuse me. A fresh pot of tea.”She turned back to him. “Earl Grey?”He nodded without hesitation. “That works.”The server, who had just approached, quickened his pace and bowed slightly. “Would you like anything else?”“Just bring some scones to match the tea.”“Yes, ma’am.”The door closed again. Silence settled over the room.“Can you start

James shrugged. “If he rejects you too harshly, don’t come crying to me.”Lucy spun around angrily. “I won’t! Why are you so sure I’ll lose?”“Because he won’t accept you,” James said evenly. The more certain he sounded, the more determined Lucy became to win Nick over and prove him wrong. She stormed home that evening, skipped dinner entirely, and went straight to shower. But when she came out and glanced at her phone, she nearly exploded.Without even knocking, she burst into James’s study.“James! Have you seen the news?”He looked up, clearly irritated by the interruption. “What news?”“That woman actually hooked up with Nick Paterson!”She shoved her phone in front of him.On the screen was a paparazzi photo: Nick and a woman entering a French restaurant one after the other. The reporter had reportedly waited outside for an hour before the two came out together, laughing and talking. In one of the photos, Nick was reaching out to brush a strand of hair away from the woma

Nick lifted his chin slightly, holding his glass as he glanced around the room. He spoke smoothly with James, confident and composed.Lucy could not help stealing a few extra looks at his handsome face. After the banquet ended and the guests had all left, she immediately latched onto her brother.“James, who exactly is he? And is he… married?”James replied calmly, “I know what you’re thinking. You practically glued yourself to him tonight. He isn’t married. But I strongly advise you not to provoke him. Someone at his level isn’t someone you can afford to toy with.”“James, how can you say that?” Lucy shot back. “Mom introduced me to so many blind dates before, and I didn’t like a single one of them. You’ve seen those men. How could I possibly fall for any of them? I finally meet someone I actually like, and you don’t want me to be happy?”“It won’t work,” James said flatly. “He doesn’t like you. You could tell from the way he looked at you. There was no interest.”Lucy immediat
