Chapter 797

Author: Summer Knowles
In such a stark contrast with a mere decoration, he wanted to know if Zachary would regret it—regret giving up Vivian and choosing Sarah.

Not only Mr. Wilson, but even Vivian couldn't help glancing at Zachary while speaking. She hoped that among all the gazes on her while she was the center of attention, one would belong to Zachary.

Unfortunately, under the brilliant lights, those blinding spotlights made it hard for her to keep her eyes open. But even in this situation, she could clearly see Zachary slightly bowing his head, smiling as he gazed intently at Sarah beside him.

That look was something she had never seen before—at least Zachary had never looked at her that way.

Full of love, adoration, as if he could never get enough of looking at her.

Her hand gripping the microphone unconsciously tightened. Perhaps the ending had been predetermined all along.

That gaze was too intense. Vivian found it extremely glaring. She hated seeing that expression—it shouldn't appear on Zachar

Charlotte shivered slightly at her mother-in-law’s implied warning. “If he really wants to help Sarah, I might not be able to stop him.”“Charlotte, you’re the lady of the Chancer family. You need to act like it,” Mrs. Chancer said firmly. “Stop obsessing over men and women’s entanglements. You have a child now. You should know what truly matters.”Charlotte gently patted her son’s back. She understood exactly what Mrs. Chancer meant.“I understand. Thank you, Mom.”Even though Mrs. Chancer had never said it aloud, Charlotte knew—this woman had endured so much over the years. Now that James had taken over the entire Chancer family, it was clear that Mrs. Chancer was no ordinary woman.---At the hospital.Vivian sat trembling in the private ICU room. On the bed lay her grandfather, Old Mr. Wilson, unconscious and frail.A nurse approached and placed a payment notice on the table in front of her. “Miss Wilson, the bill needs to be settled.”Vivian immediately tossed it aside. “It doesn’t matter anymore,” Zachary said with a cold smile. “Even if you know the truth now, so what? Isn’t it more painful for her to remember everything and tell you to your face that she never loved you—than to forget and hate you?”James let out a bitter laugh and shook his head. “And you think you’re any better than me, Zachary?”Zachary’s expression darkened as he looked away. James brushed past him without another word. Zachary watched him walk off, shoulders slumped, until he disappeared around the corner. Then he turned toward the hospital room. The door hadn’t fully closed. A sliver of space remained. He stepped forward—he missed Sarah so much he could hardly stand it.But the moment he leaned in, her gaze met his. Icy, sharp, cutting straight through him.Zachary immediately looked away, his chest tightening.—When James got home, the weariness on his face was unmistakable.Charlotte walked over with their baby in her arms. “James, where were you?”“Nowhere.” He b

“Yes,” Sarah said calmly. “And I mean it when I say this now—I never loved you, not even once. James, we were no different. No, actually—you were the better one. At least Charlotte truly loved you. You even got married and had a child together. As for me? Everything I went through was nothing but a lie from the start.”James stared at her, stunned. He had heard every word clearly, yet when strung together, they left him confused and shaken.A lie from the start? He hesitated, unsure. “Sarah… what are you saying? Are you talking about Zachary?”Sarah turned her gaze toward the window. The hospital garden below was bursting with spring blossoms, their colors vivid beneath the sun. A gentle breeze floated in, scented faintly with flowers. But even the perfect weather couldn't ease the heaviness in her chest.“It doesn’t really matter now,” she said. “James, the reason I once felt something for you was because you reminded me of him. Even though I’d lost my memory, that cherry you gav

Zachary looked up and saw James approaching. He flicked his cigarette into the trash without hesitation and frowned. “What are you doing here?”“I wanted to check on her,” James said, his eyes bloodshot. He looked like he hadn’t slept in days.Zachary pressed his lips together. “Go home. She doesn’t want to see anyone right now.”“I can’t. I need to see her for myself,” James insisted and moved to walk past him.Zachary’s eyes turned cold. “I said she doesn’t want to see anyone.”But James was too worried to listen. He pushed open the hospital room door. The sight that greeted him stunned him into silence—Sarah looked pale and fragile, a shadow of the person she used to be. His heart clenched at the sight.“Sarah, I…”“What is it?”Her voice was calm, but there was something different about her. Something unfamiliar. Her eyes held no anger, no emotion at all—just distance.James hesitated, thrown off by her change in demeanor. The silence between them stretched, heavy and aw

Mia’s heart skipped a beat. Before she could say anything, the nurse had already opened the door. And just like that, she was face-to-face with Sarah, who sat propped up in bed, her figure noticeably thinner than before. The nurse stepped inside first and performed a routine check, saying a few words about the IV and medication. Once she was done, she left quietly, closing the door behind her with a soft click.Only then did Mia lower her head and whisper, “Sarah… I’m so sorry. I just found out what happened today, I—”She didn’t get to finish. Sarah cut her off, her voice cold and distant.“Whether I got hurt or not has nothing to do with you. You don’t need to apologize.”Mia froze, stunned by the sheer indifference in her tone.“S-Sarah, are you… mad at me?”Sarah closed her eyes.It took her a long moment before she finally spoke again, her voice calm but heavy with meaning.“I remember everything now.”Mia sniffled, struggling to process the shift in Sarah’s demeanor.

Vivian couldn’t take the torment anymore. Her voice hoarse and ragged, she screamed like someone losing her mind.“Zachary! Why are you doing this to me? What did I do wrong? Why can’t you show me even a shred of mercy?”Zachary finally came to a stop in front of her. Vivian had backed all the way into a corner, her body pressed against the wall. She had nowhere left to run. Her mind was unraveling. But this time, Zachary didn’t raise his hand.Instead, he slowly crouched down, bringing himself eye-level with her terrified, trembling gaze. His voice was low and cold, like it came from the depths of hell.“Vivian, if you want sympathy or pity… you have to be someone who deserves it.”Vivian had always been proud. Even now, stripped of nearly everything, her deeply buried pride still flared up.Clutching her chest, throat bruised and purple from his grip, she whispered with trembling eyes, “I don’t understand what you’re talking about. And whether or not I deserve it… that’s not
