Chapter 11 Never say never

They both sat in the car as if they were total strangers. Elsie looked out the window with her palm on her cheek throughout the ride. Oswald wasn’t any different, he looked straight forward on the streets as if they were the most interesting things in the world. Through the silence, they arrived at the Crofts. When they arrived at the house, Elsie looked at the building with missed feelings but she contained herself as if she was the least affected.

Oswald saw the housekeeper and asked,

“Where’s Grandma?”

Elsie looked the housekeeper and smiled slightly, and she thought to herself,

‘They finally got themselves a housekeeper after exhausting the importance of me as a housekeeper. I guess they could now afford one and they didn’t need my help anymore.’

Oswald saw her in her thoughts and said to her,

“Let’s go to the garden, I’m told that grandma is there.”
