It came as a shock to Elsie to see the woman she called mother in law act the way she was doing. She knew the Crofts had a good reputation and they would do anything to keep it that way. But Hulda was acting contrary to that much to her surprise. She sighed several times to try to speak calmer so as not to be in the same lane as Hulda,

“Hulda. I didn’t think that I would need to say anything to you ever again in my life. The last time you spoke to me you knew they were your last words to me as your daughter in law. So trust me, right now, I find your action ridiculous. I took nothing not even a penny from your son, I was ready to pay him off if he asked for it.”
