Chapter 6

ผู้เขียน: Abby Ashford
When I woke up again, I was lying in the pack's healing grounds.

"You're finally awake." The healer sighed, looking at me with pity. "You had a miscarriage with severe hemorrhaging. The demon-breaking blood nearly shattered your wolf spirit. If Elder Marta hadn't found you, even the Moon Goddess couldn't have saved you."

My hand moved to my empty abdomen.

"Elder Marta found you unconscious in that cage and brought you here. We've been channeling moonlight into your spirit for three days." The healer shook her head. "Your Alpha mate won't answer our calls. When he comes, I'll remind him what it means to abandon an injured packmate."

"Healer." I interrupted her. "Don't tell him about the pup."

He wouldn't believe me anyway.

The healer hesitated. "That pup carried Alpha blood. By law—"

"There is no law that applies to me anymore," I said. "I was never his true mate."

During my recovery, Kieran never appeared. Through pack whispers, I learned he was spending day and night by Isabella's side, using mooncrystals from the family treasury to stabilize her power.

I remembered when I was sick, Kieran used to make soup for me. When I had fever, he would sit by my bedside, holding my hand.

Only now did I understand.

That tenderness was never meant for me.

He was loving Isabella through me.

On discharge day, Kieran finally called.

"Emergency at the borders. I've arranged for Beta Marcus to escort you home."

I didn't question him. I just said "okay."

The moment the call ended, I touched my empty abdomen.

Kieran was nothing more than a name about to be deleted from my life.

I would never have expectations of him again.

When I returned home, I saw Isabella in the living room, paintbrush in hand, covering the walls with wild strokes of color.

Our wedding photos and memories lay scattered on the floor, stained with paint.

Seeing me, Isabella smiled sweetly. "Sera's back? I thought this wall looked too messy, so I'm redecorating. You don't mind, do you?"

I surveyed the destruction. "Do as you please."

This house had been dead to me long ago.

Just then, Kieran emerged from the kitchen carrying a plate of cut fruit. Seeing me heading upstairs, he blocked my path.

"Isabella was trying to improve relations, and this is your attitude?"

"What else?" I looked at him with weary eyes. "Should I kneel and thank her for destroying my photos?"

Isabella quickly intervened: "Kieran, don't blame her. Sera didn't mean it..."

"Didn't mean it? Would someone curse you so viciously by accident?" Kieran's gaze toward me grew increasingly cold. "Seraphina, you disappoint me."

I had no energy to argue. I pushed past his shoulder and went upstairs.

I had just lain down when my door opened. Isabella appeared, her gentle mask completely gone, replaced by unconcealed contempt.

"Does it hurt seeing Kieran protect me like this?" Isabella's lips curved in mockery. "I told you before,he was just playing with you. I can't believe you actually took it seriously."

I turned away.

But Isabella followed, relentless:

"Do you know what people are saying about you? They say you shared your brother-in-law's bed for four years and got nothing for it. You're worth less than those women who charge by the hour."

"Seraphina, face reality. The Morgrave family doesn't need you, Kieran doesn't need you. You and your mother are both unwanted burdens!"

At the mention of my mother, I could no longer restrain myself. I sat up sharply, eyes blazing.

"You're jumping so quickly to attack, are you afraid that in these four years, he actually fell in love with me?"

Isabella froze, then laughed softly.

"In love with you?" Her eyes filled with ridicule. "If he truly loved you, would he give me the chance to stand here humiliating you?"

Soon after, I heard the door slam shut.

I gripped the blanket tightly, feeling colder and colder.

At least I would be leaving soon.

Before leaving the territory, I decided to visit the Moonlight Bazaar at the border to sell an old trinket for travel money. But at the bazaar's grand "Mystical Auction," I witnessed a scene that shattered what remained of my heart.

The final item was an "Eternal Guardian Ring" forged from celestial iron, capable of drawing moon power to nourish its wearer,a powerful charm against Luna's Eclipse, but extremely expensive and requiring blood-bond activation.

Kieran outbid all competitors, paying an astronomical sum. Before the entire crowd, he cut his fingertip and used his blood to bind the ring, personally placing it on Isabella's finger. The ring blazed with brilliant light as it merged with her power.

I remembered when I had once asked for a simple protective charm, and he had mocked me: "Relying on trinkets shows weakness." Yet here he was, spending his life essence to secure the strongest protection for Isabella.

Standing in the crowd, watching his tender, focused expression, my heart finally died completely.

I settled into the hillside villa under Holden's care, finding peaceful tranquility. We spent our days together,me writing in the sunroom while he handled business nearby. During power outages on rainy nights, he'd sit beside me with candles, analyzing my novel's character motivations."You understand this better than I do," I teased.Holden tucked my hair behind my ear: "Maybe because I understand the author quite well."My heart skipped a beat.On the night my novel won an award, snow fell outside. Holden draped a cashmere coat over my shoulders: "I've booked the revolving restaurant. Let's celebrate."The private room offered a panoramic city view. Holden raised his wine glass, then produced letters bound with red string."A surprise. Open them."The envelope's faded fountain pen writing bore an "M" in the corner that made my breath catch."Letters you wrote to your pen pal Z in high school," Holden said quietly. "Forty-three in total. I kept every one."I opened the top letter, defi

Six months later, I stood on a cruise ship deck. Holden approached, draping a blanket over my shoulders."How does it feel to have your first novel successfully published?" he asked."Like I'm dreaming," I replied, turning to face him with a small smile. It had been months since I'd left the werewolf territories for the human world. Here, I'd rediscovered my long-abandoned dream of writing.Holden was heir to the Holden Group, a powerful corporation built by his werewolf family in the human world. He'd noticed me at a literary gala, completely absorbed in my writing. Our relationship had grown from his intervention when drunk patrons bothered me.After reading my manuscript, Holden had personally invested in publishing my novel. For the first time, I truly felt that my words could be cherished by someone."The book signing is all arranged. I'll be right by your side throughout," Holden said, leaning casually against the railing.I pulled my wind-blown scarf tighter. "Thank you, Holden.

At pack headquarters, Isabella's father sat in the council chamber. Kieran had severed all alliances with the Morgrave family overnight, creating severe financial strain on their territory."What could possibly be more important than meeting with his mate's father?"Kieran entered and barely glanced at him. "Here about the terminated alliances?""If you want to remain mated to Isabella, you'll reverse these decisions immediately!"Kieran slid documents across the table. "Sign this territorial transfer agreement, and I'll restore the alliances."Isabella's father examined the papers, shocked to see Seraphina's name as the beneficiary. "What is this supposed to mean?""Transfer all Morgrave holdings to Seraphina.""Have you completely lost your senses? Isabella is your mate! What is Seraphina to you?"Kieran's gaze turned glacial. "Isabella is your daughter, but isn't Seraphina your daughter as well?""Initially, I believed you were ignorant of what Isabella and her mother were doing. Bu

Two days later, Kieran's Beta arrived to escort Isabella for her medical examination.Throughout the journey, Isabella chatted excitedly with her friends over the phone, her smile radiant."I hope it's a male pup. He could inherit the pack leadership and help Kieran shoulder the burden..."The Beta glanced at her beaming face in the mirror, a flicker of sympathy in his eyes.Eventually, the vehicle stopped before an isolated building."Luna, we've arrived."Isabella looked out at the desolate surroundings, her smile freezing."This is a medical facility?""Yes, Alpha Kieran arranged this private clinic specifically for you."The Beta calmly opened her door and led her toward the structure. Initially, Isabella felt no concern, but as they ventured deeper inside, unease crept over her. This "clinic" was unnaturally quiet, disturbingly so.The Beta brought her to an examination room."Please wait here, Luna. I'll fetch the healer."Isabella surveyed the sparse room. The next instant, she h

Kieran composed himself and returned home, feigning ignorance of what he'd discovered. The moment he stepped through the door, Isabella rushed into his arms with excitement. His body stiffened as he noticed her parents were also present in the living room."Kieran, I have wonderful news!" Isabella clung to him, eyes sparkling. "My diagnosis was wrong! I'm not dying..."Kieran's long fingers gently stroked her hair, his deep eyes flickering with unreadable emotion."A misdiagnosis?""Absolutely!" Her father thrust a medical report toward Kieran with animated excitement. "Isabella only has a benign tumor. Once removed, she'll be perfectly fine. That incompetent healer has been dismissed."Kieran lowered his gaze to the report in his hands. After a moment, he looked up. "Have you told Seraphina about this?"Her father's expression clearly showed discomfort.Isabella's mother rose and approached Kieran."We wanted to discuss this matter with you." She paused, looking troubled. "You see, yo

Seraphina had been... pregnant? He stared at the image repeatedly, unable to process what he was seeing. Grabbing his keys, he drove straight to Moonlight Medical Center. The healer who had performed Seraphina's procedure met him with barely concealed disgust."She was indeed pregnant when they brought her in, barely alive. I called her family and you repeatedly,no one answered."Her eyes were cold behind wire-rimmed glasses. "Alpha Kieran, I don't understand. She's your mate, carrying your pup, and you abandoned her like that? How could you be so heartless?"Kieran's fists clenched as the pieces fell into place. The date on Seraphina's medical record matched exactly with the night she'd been accused of cursing Isabella, the night she'd been locked in the obsidian cage. She'd been drenched in demon-breaking blood, begging him to take her to a healer as he prepared to leave. He'd dismissed it as another manipulation. But she'd been telling the truth. She'd been pregnant, and he'd let the
