Chapter 7

Author: Abby Ashford
The next day, Isabella sent me a message: "Meet me at the Sacred Grove. We need to talk about making peace."

The Sacred Grove was where the precious moongrass grew, essential for stabilizing werewolf power.

When I arrived, Isabella was already there, standing near the thorny barriers that protected the moongrass.

Her scent carried something artificial, sharp. Her scent carried something artificial, she had taken some kind of herb that would create violent power reactions.I should have been suspicious, but I was too emotionally drained to care.

"I want us to start over," she said, though her eyes held no sincerity.

"How?"

"Hahaha, do you really believe I want to make peace with you?" Isabella's voice turned vicious. "just like your naive mother!"

my wolf stirring dangerously at the insult.

"Don't. Bring. My mother. Into this." Each word came out as a growl.

"Or what?" Isabella stepped closer, her face twisted with malice. She shoved my shoulder hard. "Face it, Seraphina, you're nothing but a cheap replacement who overstayed her welcome!"

My control wavered, my hands clenching into fists, but I forced myself to step back.

"There it is!" Isabella laughed, noting my reaction. "The real you: violent, jealous, exactly what I told Kieran you were!"

She suddenly grabbed my wrist, her grip surprisingly strong. "You want to know the truth? I've been planning all from the day I returned. I made sure you'd take the blames!"

Before I could react, she yanked my hand forward and slapped herself with it, using my own palm against her cheek. The sound rang out clearly.

"What are you…" I jerked my hand back, horrified.

"At least I didn't spread my legs for four years just to be discarded like trash!" Isabella quickly scratched her own arms with her nails, leaving red marks, then stumbled backward toward the thorny barrier.

She deliberately caught her sleeve on a thorn, just enough to tear the fabric and create a small scratch, not deep enough to cause real harm. Then she knocked over several moongrass plants with her foot.

"Help!" she screamed as the thorns tore her skin. "Seraphina attacked me! She's destroying the sacred moongrass!"

A pack member emerged from hiding,he had been waiting, watching. "Help! Seraphina pushed Isabella into the barrier!"

Within minutes, Kieran arrived, his Alpha power radiating murderous fury. He found Isabella bleeding and unconscious, the precious moongrass trampled around her.

"Seraphina." His voice was deadly quiet. "This time you've gone too far."

I realized Isabella had orchestrated everything, the location, the herb, the witness, even her own injuries. But Kieran's eyes held no doubt, only disgust.

"You need time to think about what you've become," he said coldly.lifting Isabella gently in his arms. His touch was careful, protective, the same way he used to carry me when I was hurt.

As he walked away, I made my decision.

That night, I quietly gathered my few remaining personal belongings and left. I left behind everything Kieran had given me. They belonged to a life that was never truly mine.

Just as I was about to leave through the back entrance with my small bag, I nearly collided with someone in the dimly lit hallway.

Isabella was supposed to be resting after her "injuries," but here she was, fully alert and walking without assistance.

"Going somewhere?" she asked softly, her eyes taking in my bag and traveling clothes.

I met her gaze steadily. "You got what you wanted."

Isabella's lips curved in a satisfied smile. "Did I? Or are you just running away like a coward?"

"Think whatever you want," I said, stepping past her.

"Seraphina," she called after me, her voice carrying false sweetness. "Don't worry about Kieran and the house. I'll take very good care of everything."

I didn't turn back.

By dawn, I was already on a transport heading to the distant territories, far from the Morgrave lands, far from Kieran, far from the memories that had nearly destroyed me.

For the first time in four years, I was free.

I settled into the hillside villa under Holden's care, finding peaceful tranquility. We spent our days together,me writing in the sunroom while he handled business nearby. During power outages on rainy nights, he'd sit beside me with candles, analyzing my novel's character motivations."You understand this better than I do," I teased.Holden tucked my hair behind my ear: "Maybe because I understand the author quite well."My heart skipped a beat.On the night my novel won an award, snow fell outside. Holden draped a cashmere coat over my shoulders: "I've booked the revolving restaurant. Let's celebrate."The private room offered a panoramic city view. Holden raised his wine glass, then produced letters bound with red string."A surprise. Open them."The envelope's faded fountain pen writing bore an "M" in the corner that made my breath catch."Letters you wrote to your pen pal Z in high school," Holden said quietly. "Forty-three in total. I kept every one."I opened the top letter, defi

Six months later, I stood on a cruise ship deck. Holden approached, draping a blanket over my shoulders."How does it feel to have your first novel successfully published?" he asked."Like I'm dreaming," I replied, turning to face him with a small smile. It had been months since I'd left the werewolf territories for the human world. Here, I'd rediscovered my long-abandoned dream of writing.Holden was heir to the Holden Group, a powerful corporation built by his werewolf family in the human world. He'd noticed me at a literary gala, completely absorbed in my writing. Our relationship had grown from his intervention when drunk patrons bothered me.After reading my manuscript, Holden had personally invested in publishing my novel. For the first time, I truly felt that my words could be cherished by someone."The book signing is all arranged. I'll be right by your side throughout," Holden said, leaning casually against the railing.I pulled my wind-blown scarf tighter. "Thank you, Holden.

At pack headquarters, Isabella's father sat in the council chamber. Kieran had severed all alliances with the Morgrave family overnight, creating severe financial strain on their territory."What could possibly be more important than meeting with his mate's father?"Kieran entered and barely glanced at him. "Here about the terminated alliances?""If you want to remain mated to Isabella, you'll reverse these decisions immediately!"Kieran slid documents across the table. "Sign this territorial transfer agreement, and I'll restore the alliances."Isabella's father examined the papers, shocked to see Seraphina's name as the beneficiary. "What is this supposed to mean?""Transfer all Morgrave holdings to Seraphina.""Have you completely lost your senses? Isabella is your mate! What is Seraphina to you?"Kieran's gaze turned glacial. "Isabella is your daughter, but isn't Seraphina your daughter as well?""Initially, I believed you were ignorant of what Isabella and her mother were doing. Bu

Two days later, Kieran's Beta arrived to escort Isabella for her medical examination.Throughout the journey, Isabella chatted excitedly with her friends over the phone, her smile radiant."I hope it's a male pup. He could inherit the pack leadership and help Kieran shoulder the burden..."The Beta glanced at her beaming face in the mirror, a flicker of sympathy in his eyes.Eventually, the vehicle stopped before an isolated building."Luna, we've arrived."Isabella looked out at the desolate surroundings, her smile freezing."This is a medical facility?""Yes, Alpha Kieran arranged this private clinic specifically for you."The Beta calmly opened her door and led her toward the structure. Initially, Isabella felt no concern, but as they ventured deeper inside, unease crept over her. This "clinic" was unnaturally quiet, disturbingly so.The Beta brought her to an examination room."Please wait here, Luna. I'll fetch the healer."Isabella surveyed the sparse room. The next instant, she h

Kieran composed himself and returned home, feigning ignorance of what he'd discovered. The moment he stepped through the door, Isabella rushed into his arms with excitement. His body stiffened as he noticed her parents were also present in the living room."Kieran, I have wonderful news!" Isabella clung to him, eyes sparkling. "My diagnosis was wrong! I'm not dying..."Kieran's long fingers gently stroked her hair, his deep eyes flickering with unreadable emotion."A misdiagnosis?""Absolutely!" Her father thrust a medical report toward Kieran with animated excitement. "Isabella only has a benign tumor. Once removed, she'll be perfectly fine. That incompetent healer has been dismissed."Kieran lowered his gaze to the report in his hands. After a moment, he looked up. "Have you told Seraphina about this?"Her father's expression clearly showed discomfort.Isabella's mother rose and approached Kieran."We wanted to discuss this matter with you." She paused, looking troubled. "You see, yo

Seraphina had been... pregnant? He stared at the image repeatedly, unable to process what he was seeing. Grabbing his keys, he drove straight to Moonlight Medical Center. The healer who had performed Seraphina's procedure met him with barely concealed disgust."She was indeed pregnant when they brought her in, barely alive. I called her family and you repeatedly,no one answered."Her eyes were cold behind wire-rimmed glasses. "Alpha Kieran, I don't understand. She's your mate, carrying your pup, and you abandoned her like that? How could you be so heartless?"Kieran's fists clenched as the pieces fell into place. The date on Seraphina's medical record matched exactly with the night she'd been accused of cursing Isabella, the night she'd been locked in the obsidian cage. She'd been drenched in demon-breaking blood, begging him to take her to a healer as he prepared to leave. He'd dismissed it as another manipulation. But she'd been telling the truth. She'd been pregnant, and he'd let the
