“I’ll repeat what I’ve said for the past fifteen minutes. I cannot give you access to sensitive files.” The brown-haired receptionist spat, narrowing her eyes at us.

My hands found their way to my hair and I tugged on it. Atlas had left in the morning for an important assignment but I knew what it was — I knew who it was.

My heart ached at the thought. Lovie called him, she called him and he… he just left.

That was my biggest fear. Atlas would never be able to put my kids and me first. I couldn’t let him break their hearts like he had done to me. I couldn’t let him hurt them.

I ran my hands through my hair as Greta’s voice broke through. “This is a high-risk situation, we need those files and access to the CCTV room, two kids could lose their mother.”

The curvy woman raised an eyebrow at Greta. “Well, I am only doing my job. Come back when you have a court order.”

Greta turned and parted her lips but I beat her to him.

“Lovie called him this morning. I saw her name

“There it is!” I pointed at the jet and exited the car, racing for it. Atlas’ guards stepped in front of me and I froze. “Sir,” The head guard strolled past me to Atlas. “Getting entangled with the government is a bad idea.” my heart dropped and my eyes flickered to Atlas’ poker face. They were right there! They could leave at any moment! Was Atlas going to — “If you go inside that jet, you could lose your standing with the president and become an accessory to a crime and —“ “You are fired, William,” Atlas informed him. I forgot how to breathe for a second as I watched the exchanges “But, sir! I have been working with you for years!” “Exactly.” Atlas didn’t miss a beat. “Despite working with me for years, you stopped my wife without any reason. Walked past her like was furniture and then, proceeded to try and convince me to abandon her in the middle of nowhere.” Atlas stepped up, reaching out his hand. “Your gun.” “But sir—“ “Gun, Williams.” The man shot

“Julia?” Atlas grunted as I tackled him to the ground and snatched the report, crumbling it in my hand. He caught my wrist before I could leave and my breath hitched in my throat. “At–” “You are not leaving until we settle this.” I yanked my arm but he refused to let go. “I am done talking Mr. Volkan,” My hands trembled. If it fell, Atlas would know the truth… What truth? I wasn’t even sure, but better wrong than sorry, I guess. I knew Atlas and I knew his mother too. She kept the kids alive so she could take them. Atlas wouldn’t hide the truth from his mother. She was his mother… He would tell her and she’d come after my children. She would snatch them from me and I couldn’t allow that. Never. I would never allow that. Atlas stepped between me and the door. “We are going around in circles Julia.” his eyes shifted to the paper and I hid it behind my back. Why are you

“Julia!” Lily’s voice broke the silence before Atlas could speak. I walked past him and crouched in front of her, grateful for the attention shift. “Hi, baby!” I said, wrapping my arms around her. “Leo and I wan’ show you something, up!” My nose scrunched up and I glanced at the ceiling. “Not there, silly!” she giggled. “Up! Up! Come!” She took my wrist before I could speak and I stumbled after the little girl. Despite her cheerfulness, my mind drifted back to Atlas. Had he heard us? Did he know about my suspicions? My hands tightened at my sides and I bit hard on my bottom lip. I didn’t want Atlas to know anything about the triplets and Leo, Louis, and Lily were my kids. I wanted to carry that secret to my grave. Yes, I would be the worst mother in the world but I just… I couldn’t. I couldn’t open the doors of my life to the same man who broke them down before. “Look! Don’t you like it?!” I snapped back to reality at Leo’s voice. My jaw hung loose as I took

“We need to talk.” Atlas’ baritone voice filled my ears. My grip on the door handle tightened. “I need to talk to you,” He corrected. “Please?” He tried again and I rolled my eyes. I opened the door and a small smile grazed his lips, only to turn upside down as I walked past him. My heart raced but I didn’t stop. “Julia?” His voice cracked. “Won’t you even… look at me?” I continued walking and he grabbed my wrist. I retracted it as if he’d stung me. Atlas seemed like he’d been stung for real. “Okay, fine.” He raised his hands as if offering a peace sign. “I won’t touch you.” Who knew he would be so obedient? Respecting boundaries and all. This same man used to grab my wrist and try to force answers out of me. “At least say something.” I couldn’t tell if he was begging, or asking. But it wasn’t hard to detect from his slumped shoulders and heavy breaths. “Fine, won’t you ask how I found you?” That caught my attention, our gaze met before I looked away.
