Chapter 309

Author: Aurora Wells
At those words, several heads in the boutique turned her way.

The atmosphere shifted—awkward, almost stifling.

It was a little too easy for her to be generous with someone else’s gift.

Sharon’s brows creased ever so slightly. “Kira, that bag isn’t exactly cheap. Maybe take a look at the other styles instead.”

She kept her tone polite, but the message was clear.

The sales associates nearby all kept quiet, pretending to be busy.

Kira, oblivious, didn’t seem to think she’d said anything out of line.

She glanced at me and added, “Sharon, if you’re going to give it away so easily, why not pass it to Miss Lee instead? At least that way, you’ll recover the cost and can order another one.”

Sharon’s expression darkened. “I went through a lot to get this bag—it’s not something I’d just pass on. And besides, do you even know what Miss Lee actually wants?”

It was obvious Sharon was starting to lose her patience, but Kira either didn’t notice or chose not to.

She seemed determined to block me from

I shot her a glare. “You already said Kira’s an idiot. Why would I bother arguing with her? And as for Linda, she never did anything to hurt me. Why would I fight her?”Sharon chuckled. “Alright, alright. Don’t worry, Eve. Miles would never go for someone like Linda.”My eyes lit up for a split second and then dimmed just as fast. “How can you be so sure?”Sharon gave me a knowing wink. “I just know. We went to school together, remember? That type of girl was never his style.”Suddenly, I remembered something Miles had once said about Linda. The next thing I knew, I burst out laughing. When the laughter faded, I realized Dolly was staring at me like I’d completely lost it.“I wasn’t laughing,” I stammered. “I mean, I didn’t mean to...”Dolly turned to Sharon. “She’s gone. Look at her, grinning like a fool. Honestly, I think she’s more like Linda than she wants to admit.”Sharon blinked playfully. “Even if she were, Miles still wouldn’t fall for her.”Something about her tone made my ea

Linda caught me staring and gave a soft smile. “Miss White, I think we could actually be good friends. You seem like a really kind person.”I looked away from her overly bright gaze and gave a faint smile. “Maybe…”Dolly wedged herself in front of me, grinning at Linda. “Miss Lee, you’re stunning. It’s lovely to meet you.”She extended her hand politely.Linda returned the smile and reached out to shake her hand, but before they could touch, Kira suddenly stepped in and shoved Dolly’s hand aside with open hostility.“What do you think you’re doing? Miss Lee doesn’t know you and has no reason to.”Dolly had never liked her to begin with. After being pushed, her expression turned frosty. She gave a cold snort. “Wow, Miss Kira, you really do play the lapdog role to perfection.”Kira didn’t even flinch. She looked smug. “Miss Jones, people like you—born into nothing—shouldn’t try to mingle where you don’t belong. It's embarrassing to watch.”Dolly let out a sharp laugh. “That’s rich. I ca

I grabbed Dolly. "Let’s go! That woman is Kira..."Dolly instantly perked up at the mention of Kira. She couldn’t stand her.She raised her voice, "Eve, we’re here to shop till we drop today. You can afford it, can’t you?"My face darkened. Sure enough, Kira spotted the three of us. She yanked Linda by the arm, drawing her attention.Linda glanced over, looking a bit surprised.I tried to avoid them, but it was too late. I saw Linda exchange a few words with Kira before Kira headed straight toward us.Dolly stepped up protectively, like a mother hen shielding her chick.Kira stopped in front of us and gave a condescending snort. "What a coincidence, Miss White. We meet again!"Sharon’s brows drew together slightly. She knew Miles, so naturally, she also knew Kira, who never missed a chance to name-drop her Wynn family connection.Sharon said, "Kira, what a surprise. Was that your friend just now?"Kira gave me a pointed look and said deliberately, "That was Linda Lee. Sharon, surel

A pawn?Chloe actually had the nerve to call herself a pawn?If that was what being a pawn looked like, then she was living the high life on the chessboard.I handed my phone to Sharon and Dolly for a quick look.Dolly slammed her hand on the table. "Classic manipulative flirt! This is textbook fishing-for-sympathy. "All that 'we’re just like siblings,' 'I don’t even love him,' 'I’m only staying with him to protect his pride' crap. 'I can’t bear to hurt him'—ugh, give me a break!"She made a gagging noise for emphasis.Sharon gave a cool smile. "Miss Chloe is quite the strategist."Despite the words, her eyes were full of disdain.Sharon was the embodiment of an independent woman—running a successful gallery in a cutthroat industry. She didn't get that far without a strong sense of self and a good deal of vision. She had zero respect for women like Chloe.Fuming, Dolly declared, "I’m going to expose her.""Don’t," I said. "Let her keep performing."Sharon nodded in agreement. "Eve d

Miles’ response was to pin me hard against the bed.He leaned in, forcing me to meet that devastatingly handsome face of his.He was so close that I felt unfair."Blacked out? Hm?" His voice dipped slightly at the end, teasing, laced with something darkly amused. The pressure rolling off him was overwhelming. I could barely breathe.Still, I kept up the act. "Yeah, I don’t remember a thing."He gave me a lazy smirk. "Want me to jog your memory?"I watched that dangerously handsome face draw closer and swallowed hard. "No need. Really. You can, uh, get off me now. You’re kinda heavy…"The rest of my sentence was cut off by his mouth crashing down on mine.It was another ruthless kiss, no room for negotiation—just pure, unrelenting force. He pulled back only when he’d stolen every last breath from me, inhaling deeply as he sat up.Watching his rigid, annoyingly attractive back, I offered a helpful suggestion. "You know, you really don’t have to do that. Every time you kiss me, you end

"Okay, bye!""No, see you in a bit!""See you in a bit.""Mwah! Kiss kiss!""Kiss kiss.""You have to say 'mwah mwah'!""Alright, mwah mwah!"After who knows how many rounds of “mwah mwah,” I finally hung up.There was a knock at the door. Mary walked in, trying hard not to laugh.I looked at her, only she looked like two or three of her.I squinted. "Mary, there’s two of you. Can you shapeshift?"She brought over a bowl of soup. "Oh, sweetie, I was only in the kitchen for a minute, and you already drank that much? Come drink this hangover tea."I stared at her for a second, then suddenly burst into tears. She panicked. "Oh no, what’s wrong, honey? Why are you crying all of a sudden?""I want my mom... Grandma... Grandma..."...When I woke up, it was already completely dark outside. My head was still spinning, and my mouth felt as dry as cotton.Click—the warm light from the floor lamp flicked on.I groaned and covered my eyes. "Too bright..."The bed dipped slightly beside me. Someo

When I got home, I devoured a full meal, then, on a whim, poured myself a big glass of red wine. The moment I let out a wine-induced burp, it felt like all the frustration bottled up in my chest had finally found a way out. I poured myself another glass. The wine Miles kept here was surprisingly good and strong. One glass turned into two, then three, and by the third, I was already dialing a number without even looking."Hello? Eve, what’s going on?" A gentle voice came through the phone. He sounded so soothing. He was handsome, rich, kind and his voice? Absolutely dreamy. How on earth did I ever fall for someone like Julian when I had someone like Miles right in front of me?Slurring my words, I let out a goofy laugh. "Miles Wynn, I like you."Miles was speechless."Miles Wynn, why do I like you so much?""Eve, have you been drinking? Where are you?"His voice was calm and steady, and the way it slid into my ear made me feel like I could get pregnant just listening to it.I let out

Richard immediately turned to the approaching security. “Separate them. Escort Mrs. Moore downstairs for some tea.”Julian exploded. “Grandfather, how could you take the side of an outsider like that?!”At last, Richard showed the authority of the true head of the Moore family.“I’m not taking anyone’s side,” he said coldly. “Let me formally introduce her—Evelyn White is a major shareholder of Moore Group. "Mr. Burns and the other three founding shareholders have unanimously recommended that she attend today’s board meeting.”As he spoke, he motioned to his secretary, who handed over a prepared letter of recommendation.Julian’s face turned even grimmer as he took the document. One glance at it and his expression darkened further. The letter carried the personal signatures of all five senior shareholders. He stared at it for several long seconds before turning his gaze on me.I stayed silent. Then, suddenly, Julian gave me a smile—sharp, cold, cutting. “You got what you wanted, Evel
