Before I was Marie ( A dead woman’s promise)

With my upcoming 23rd birthday, I can only imagine what Mom is planning and how many men she's planning to introduce me to.

hopefully not 50 years old men who would 'benefit our company'.

I mentally roll my eyes and sigh.

Elle's family doesn't bother and they let her do whatever she wants to, Elijah's Mom doesn't bother him too.

Why me?

Off course I always get the bad lucks-

" Are you even listening Marie" Elle slaps my shoulder.

"Ow, what?.. did you say something?" I furrowed my eyebrows at her.

" You crackhead, I've been telling you for the past few minutes how Luke's gaming addiction is annoying " she rolls her eyes at me.

" Well at least you get to date just about anyone you want" I roll my eyes back at her.

Her alarm starts ringing and I look at her phone.

" Phew, next class's in 5 minutes " she starts parking her stuff.

I join her and together we walk of the cafe.

"Elijah's not in school" I stated "why?"

"How would I know" she murmurs and frown.

I smile, when are these two going to admit they like each other.

"I think he's probably fucking his new girl at home and would be all day" I tease.

" He got a new girl?" This interests her. She stops walking and I stop too.

" Yeah" I sigh and smile " you know,the first stage, he's probably so excited he decided to miss school today" I sigh again, dreamingly.

" Hmf, good for him" she frowns deeper and stumps to class.

I follow behind her smiling.

"The class is over" the professor close his marker and starts to park his books.

The entire class begins to chatter as they make their way out.

I sigh and carry my bag, I better head back to my apartment early today, I still have my project to complete.

Finally, I'll be out of college soon. As much as it sucks and is stressful. It's better than staying back at home. Once I'm done with college I'll to join the company. It feels like my whole life has been planned out and now all I have to do is follow the script.

My phone starts vibrating, I take it out of my pocket and Elle's name flashed on the screen, I pick the call.

"I'll be staying at Luke's this weekend, so you don't have to wait for me"

"Wasn't planning to" I roll my eyes.

"Whatever, anyways have a great weekend" she chirps and cut the call.

I walk to my car and entered, I keep my bag and phone at the passengers seat and turn of the ignition.

The drive was fast since I wasn't living far from the campus.

Good, at least I have the whole apartment to myself this weekend, I have to finish my project before the deadline which is Thursday of next week.

I unlocked the house and walk in, I walked straight to my room and drop everything on the side table.

I drop on the bed in a thud and close my eyes. A small nap won't hurt.

I focus on thinking about a future where I'm living in a country side alone,seating in my cottage and sipping coffee while I read my favorite novels. How wonderful it would be.

Slowly my breathing gets even and I feel myself entering another world.

"Not everyone is meant to be together" a deep voice whispers.

"Your opinion means shit to me,shut up" a voice even deeper whispers back.

" You're going to bring nothing but war and chaos"

There was a pause.

" Did you not hear what I said, shut up" the deeper voice whispers.

Wait, why can I hear this voices?

"Daphne" the deeper voiced person called out.

I hear hushed footsteps.

"Oh my God, Orpheus!" I hear my voice speak.

Wait, my voice? Am I speaking? How?

"Shh"

Suddenly I feel someone lips on mine, with a firm grab on my head. The sound of lips smacking and tension fills the air. I pull away first.

"Caius" I acknowledged the person with the deep voice"

Am I blind?, Why can't I see these people? How do I even know them?

"I'm going to get you out of here Daphne" the deeper voiced person speaks.

"No, Orpheus you're not supposed to be here" I hear myself speak.

" Orpheus, we've been discovered, we must leave now! " The deep voice I acknowledged as Caius warns.

"Daphne, I promise I'll get you out of here, I promise you" the deeper voiced guy, Orpheus holds me even closer.

" Orpheus, you must forget about me, I am a dead woman already, he will never see that I live with someone else that's not him" I cried.

I'm crying?

"No Daphne, I promise, and you know I'm a man of my words, I will wage war on him and the entire realms to have you by my side" he kisses my forehead and pulls away.

" I will come for you,my love" he takes some steps back and suddenly vanishes.

What?

It was still dark, but I use the opportunity to observe the environment, I walk back and sat on a bed

How do I even know where to go?

The place seems overly familiar to me, but I can't quite seem to put my finger on it. The aroma of tea and a perfume I can't quite figure is dormant in the air, a little bit of vanilla on the sheets which seems like silk.

"Sister!" A very angry voice made his way into my room, I start to tremble in fear.

Fear? Why am I afraid?

He takes long strides to me and the next thing I feel was a painful sting on my face.

I woke up and let out a breath that I seem to be holding.

What was that?!

I gasp when my phone starts ringing. I sigh and pick the phone, Elle's name pops up.

"Elle?" I acknowledged, when I picked the call.

I hear her sniffing.

"Are you crying?, what's wrong?"

"Can you pick me up,please" she chocked out.

" Ok, where are you?" I ask, concerned.

"I'll text you the address" with that she cuts the call.

What could possibly be wrong with her?, Luke better not be responsible for this, cause I swear I'm gonna kill him, I never once liked that fucker, especially after he cheated on her the first time.

I rush to the table and pick up my keys.

Wait?, What time is it?

I went back to the bed and pick up my phone.

3:56am?!

I slept for that long?!, It was supposed to be a nap. I mentally roll my eyes at myself.

I ran out of the house and lock it, I unlocked my car and check to see the address she had supposedly sent.

Yup, it was Luke, I am going to kill him, I swear it.

I turn on the ignition and drove off. Within minutes, I'm in front of Luke's apartment, I get of the car and walk to his front door.

Before I get there I hear Elle's voice.

"I'm here"

She was at the corner of the apartment, bent down, with her back on the wall.

I rush to her.

"Oh my god, what happened?" I help her up but freezed when I saw a bruise on her cheek, with blood that was probably from her nose smeared between her nosed and lips, her eyes bloodshot and her lips swollen.

"That mother fucker .." I began as I match to Luke's front door.

"I'm going to burn this house down, with him in it." I mutter

Before I was able to reach I am grabbed by Elle. I glare at her

"He probably looks worst Marie, let's go"she speaks,her voice cracking, I furrowed my eyebrows, not still satisfied.

"It was mutual, he hit me first but I hit him back, he's passed out right now, he was very drunk"

I sigh, and hug her.

"Are you ok?"

"I'll be" she sniffs.

I walk her to the car and open the passengers seat for her.

"Thanks" I give her a small smile.

I got in the car and drove back to our house.

She got out first and open the door, I follow behind her cautiously.

She drops her bag on the couch and walks to her room.

I stand at the door, unsure of what to do.

I felt helpless and useless as I can't seem to comfort her.

What are you doing Marie, follow her!

I walk to her door and knock.

"Do you want to talk about it?" I ask .

"No" she voice barely audible.

"Are you hungry?"

"No"

I sigh and sat down on the floor.

"Do you need anything"

" No"

" Can I come in"

" No, Marie, please, let me be today" she says softly.

" Ok" I sigh, disappointed I wasn't able to help in any way.

I remove my phone from my pocket and checked the time.

4:31am

There was no way I'll be able to sleep again.Do I tell Elijah what happened?. No, it's still too early.

I got up from the floor I was sitting and suddenly realized I had gone to fetch Elle barefooted.

I roll my eyes and walk to my room, I definitely need to take a shower, I fell asleep without one and now my feet are dirty.

I take off my cloths and walk to the bathroom.

The one thing I like about this house is the bathroom, Elle let me choose this room since this bathroom was larger than hers and it had a bathtub. We both know that was my favorite thing to do, staying in the bathtub for hours reading a book and occasionally falling asleep. Elle always objurgate me for that. What if I accidentally drown.

But it has never happened, has it?

I contemplate whether to take a shower or bath. And decided on taking a bath, it's still very early after all and I don't feel like doing anything yet.

I prepare the bath and get in.

I let the warm water sooth my skin and nerves.

Nothing beats having a warm bath very early in the morning, or anytime at all.

I used the sponge and scrub every part of my body.

I reached to one of the books on mini shelf besides the tub.

After pages and pages of reading the water was beginning to get cold. I drop the book and stood up.

Immediately, I noticed a shadow moving at my back. I turn, startled but there was no one there.

What the hell was that.

I quickly reached for my bathrobe and put in on.

"Hello?" I walk to the direction of the place I noticed the shadow, what if the person was hiding behind the shower curtain.

Terrified, I picked up the lamp on the basin table, just in case.

With hushed footsteps, I reached for the curtain , ready to smash whatever or whoever was inside.

I push the curtain, and it was empty.

I let out a breath and walk back to the basin. I drop the lamp and stand in front of the mirror.

What was that?!

I place my hands on the table and bent my head, I am now hallucinating?, Or was it just an Imagination.

I take a deep breath and hold it. Suddenly it feels like I can hear someone breathing besides me.

My heart starts pounding, but I try to even my breathing so I can listen.

The breathing gets closer and suddenly I feel a presence behind me.

I try to raise my head to look in the mirror.

"No" a hand force my head back down.

My heart pounding even louder than it already was.

Large hands grabs my hips and pulls me back to meet a hard front.

"Finally" he rasps.
