Chapter 482

Author: Aurora Wells
I nodded.

Still uneasy, Trey added, "And I mean it—no matter what he says, don’t agree to anything."

I sighed. "Alright, I won’t."

Only then did Trey seem a little more at ease.

He said, "You and my brother should just go enjoy your vacation. I’ll deal with Tristian. He’ll think twice with me stepping in."

I agreed out loud, but deep down, I wasn’t convinced.

I knew what kind of man Tristian was—relentless.

There was no way he’d back off just because of Trey.

After Trey left, I went inside to rest.

When I woke up later, thirsty, I slowly made my way out of the bedroom to get some water.

The moment I saw the irises in the living room vase, I froze.

I rubbed my eyes, thinking I must’ve been dreaming.

Mary stepped out from the kitchen when she heard me. "Miss White, you’re awake? Are you hungry? I made some soup."

I pointed at the flowers. "Why are those here again?"

I clearly remembered Trey taking that bouquet with him and tossing it out when he left.

Mary looked puzzled. "Someone brou

I didn’t wear any jewelry, just a watch.Satisfied with how I looked, I headed out.Ten minutes later, I stood before Tristian. The rooftop terrace was dimly lit. He lounged lazily on a cushioned sofa, dressed in a sleek black suit that leaned more casual than formal. In front of him was a full spread of elegant cuisine. When he saw me approach, he gave a small smile, set down his utensils, and dabbed the corner of his mouth with a linen napkin.I paused for a moment, then walked over. There he was—Tristian. He was handsome and sharp, with a kind of dangerous charm that was impossible to ignore.I held out my hand. “Good evening, Mr. Vaughn.”He rose with an easy grace and touched my hand briefly. “Good evening, Miss White. I finally managed to get you here.”He gestured toward the seat across from him. I sat down.It was only then I noticed he’d chosen a very private spot—tucked into a corner of the terrace, partially shielded by waist-high planters filled with small evergreens.T

I stayed quiet for a long moment. “I really don’t know. But it’s true. He went back to that remote town we visited before. He’s actually teaching there now.”Dolly was still stunned. “That place has no electricity and running water. How’s someone like him, spoiled his whole life, supposed to survive there?”I let out a sigh.Whether he could or couldn’t survive was obvious. Since the divorce, Julian had been hiding out there, punishing himself through some kind of self-inflicted redemption.I knew this wasn’t about charity or compassion. He seemed to be trying to make up for everything he owed me.I exhaled again. “So, what do I do now, Dolly?”She snapped, “What else can you do? Let him self-destruct if that’s what he wants. Honestly, trying to guilt you with this pity parade? “Please. Regret that shows up late isn’t worth a dime. And this fake suffering act of his? It’s pathetic.”Dolly had never liked Julian, and now she didn’t hold back at all.I stayed silent. She warned me, “E

I shot Trey a look. "Forget it. Your place is filled with expensive things and those paintings. What if she wipes one down with a dirty rag?"Trey shuddered. "Alright, scratch that. Forget I said anything."Now Amy had officially become a hot potato. My head throbbed.Amy stepped closer, voice trembling. "Miss White, please take me in. If you don’t… my father’s getting out soon. He’ll hit me."As she spoke, she pulled up her sleeve. Old bruises and scars ran crisscross over her arm, too brutal to ignore.Dolly sighed. "Fine. You can move into the studio. But don’t damage the clothes inside. If you ruin even one piece, no one’s keeping you around."That last line was meant to scare her.Amy’s face lit up. She nodded quickly. "Okay, I won’t break anything."Ian left with her in tow.Dolly muttered under her breath, "Seriously. Why do we keep collecting every stray and lunatic? Eve, you’ve got to tell Mr. Wynn to stop letting his sympathy run wild."I sighed.Dolly left early—probably u

The chief doctor looked helpless. “We’ve run every test we can. All we can say is that there’s a shadow—it could be residual bruising from an old injury, or fresh trauma from the recent impact. There’s really no way to be sure.”Trey’s expression darkened. “What a joke.”The doctor’s face stiffened. “Neurological issues are some of the hardest to pinpoint. It’s not something any hospital can guarantee...”Trey cut him off, impatient. “Just give me a straight answer. Is she in danger or not?”The doctor looked awkward. “For now, no. But we’ll need to monitor it. That’s why I advised Miss White to be extra cautious.”Trey scowled. “So basically, you said nothing useful.”I quickly grabbed his arm. “He said I’m fine, didn’t he? Thank you, Dr. Lee.”The doctor hurried out.I looked at Trey. “What’s with you lately? You’ve been on edge all the time. The doctor said I’m okay.”He didn’t say a word, clearly still in a foul mood.I had no choice but to let Dolly help me pack, then asked Trey

What I didn’t know was that, high above the clouds, a hand was turning a black phone in its grasp. The man had striking features, and the slight curve of his thin lips carried a hint of carefree mockery. He was on a luxurious private jet. Outside the porthole, dense clouds rolled by.A man in a black suit, likely a subordinate, walked over and respectfully reported, "Mr. Vaughn, we’ll arrive in Highridge in half an hour. Please fasten your seatbelt."Tristian gave a lazy nod and asked, "Keep sending flowers these next few days. Buy a few things women like and send those too."The man in the black suit hesitated for a moment. "Mr. Vaughn, wouldn’t that alert Mr. Wynn? He already turned down your offer before. Shouldn’t we be playing hardball instead?"Tristian glanced coolly at him.The subordinate immediately lowered his head in fear. "Forgive me for overstepping."Tristian tapped open his iPad unhurriedly. "Any updates on Julian Moore lately? He seems to have vanished."The subordin
