Chapter 9

Author: Bagel
For three days, Zander had barely slept.

Ever since the bond had broken, a dull ache had throbbed in his wolf's core, a constant reminder of something vital being ripped away.

He tried to numb himself with work, handling pack business for seventy-two hours straight, but the hollowness only intensified in the dead of night.

Every time he closed his eyes, Ember's cold, indifferent gaze haunted him.

"Alpha, this is the document Miss Ember had sent to her parents."

Marcus's hand was trembling, as if the parchment itself were scalding hot.

Zander took the document. A single glance was enough to drain the color from his face.

Writ of Familial Severance.

The blood-red script was a death warrant, freezing the notoriously ruthless Alpha to the spot.

"No... impossible..."

His voice was a ragged rasp, his hands shaking violently.

It was the most absolute rite of familial rejection in werewolf culture. Once enacted, it was irreversible.

She was really erasing every trace of her past, including her

The flight was a living hell for Zander. He paced the length of the private jet, every second an eternity of torment.Vivian's words echoed in his mind: The Blood Fangs are already moving! The full moon is tonight! The moment the jet's wheels touched down in Paris, he sprinted out of the cabin. He tore through the streets toward the 7th arrondissement, his heart threatening to pound its way out of his chest. If anything happened to Ember, he would never forgive himself. As he arrived at the luxury apartment building, he witnessed a scene that shattered him to his core.A handsome man—Julian—held a car door open for me, his smile as easy and warm as the Parisian sun.I emerged from the building, not as the timid girl he'd known, but as a woman in a tailored beige suit and heels, radiating a confidence that was entirely my own.In the past few months, I had felt a sense of freedom and power that was entirely new. With Chloe's help, I hadn't just found myself again.I had become the head

"Answer me!"Zander roared, grabbing Vivian by the shoulders and hauling her off the sofa."Every one of Ember's accidents—you planned them, didn't you?"Vivian trembled violently, her mask of innocence finally shattering."I... I don't know what you're talking about..." she stammered, her voice shaking."You don't know?"Zander shoved the phone in her face, every word on the screen a gleaming dagger."Then tell me what these conversations with a Blood Fang assassin are. And where did you get this photo of Ember in the Paris airport?"Seeing the evidence, the fear in her eyes evaporated, replaced by a warped, manic glee.A laugh tore from her throat, high and shrieking like a night owl."Well, since you've found out, I guess there's no point in pretending anymore."She straightened up, the gentleness in her eyes gone, replaced by pure, naked malice."That's right," she hissed, her voice dripping with venom. "The car crash? My doing. The falling debris? I paid off the foreman. The poiso

Zander kicked open the villa door, his roar shaking the entire house. "If I can't find her, I'll kill every last one of you!"The servants, terrified, dropped to their knees, not daring to breathe under the crushing weight of his murderous aura. The scent that had once calmed him, a scent he had never truly cherished, was completely gone. The chair in the living room where she used to read was empty, the worn patches on its arms a silent testament to her former presence. The bone china tea set she favored was gone from the dining table.Even the banister was devoid of the faint traces she left behind when she walked down the stairs. He charged up the stairs like a wild beast and threw open the door to the master bedroom. The door slammed against the wall with a deafening crash. The pillow on her side of the bed still held the faint impression of her head. He buried his face in it, desperate for her scent, but found only the ghost of it—faded and almost gone. This woman had truly erased

"I don't know, Chloe."I clutched my coffee cup, my knuckles white from the pressure."Head Instructor? Chloe, I'm not sure I even remember how to fight.""Nonsense!"Chloe shot to her feet. The coffee cup slammed against the table, making a sharp clatter that turned the heads of the other patrons, but she didn't care."Do you have any idea how terrifying you were in the training grounds three years ago? That sparring session against the pack's best fighters—every move was precise, every instinct a razor's edge!"Her voice trembled with an excitement I had never seen in her before."That was three years ago..." My voice was barely a whisper."So what?" she snapped. "Talent doesn't just disappear, Ember! It gets buried. It gets trampled on by fools who wouldn't know a true warrior if she broke their jaw!"A fire burned in her green eyes."Do you know what I thought when I saw you fight that day? I thought I was looking at the future war-leader of a generation!"My heart began to pound.

We had just crossed the border of the Crescent Moon Pack's territory when, for a fleeting moment, it felt as if my very soul was being sliced in two with a dull, rusty blade. The tearing sensation stole the air from my lungs."Miss? Are you all right?" the driver asked, his eyes finding mine in the rearview mirror.I gripped the armrest tightly, forcing myself to endure the pain radiating from the depths of my being. It was coming from Zander. He'd seen the rejection writ. The bond was breaking."I'm fine. Keep driving."I clenched my jaw, letting the soul-shattering pain ravage my body. But once the searing agony subsided, what replaced it wasn't emptiness. It was… relief.A profound, liberating relief, as if an invisible chain that had been slowly strangling me for years had finally snapped. The heavy, oppressive weight that had crushed my chest for three years was finally gone."It's really over," I whispered to myself, watching the lights of the pack fade in the distance.Twelve ho
