Chapter 2

Author: Watermelon
I brought the new divorce agreement back to the office.

Milo and his hired actors did not notice anything amiss and appeared really happy, especially Milo. He almost let out a laugh right after I signed my name on the agreement. Of course, he instantly schooled his face and put on a sad, regretful look again.

“Honey, this is the toughest decision I ever had to make in my life.” He took out a pen from his breast pocket with a sigh. “Even if this is fake, I still don’t want to be parted from you for one single second.”

I scoffed in my heart and stared at the tip of his pen while waiting for him to sign the agreement.

“Wait! Don’t sign it!” A shrill screech interrupted Milo’s actions.

I scowled and turned to the young woman standing at the door.

Lily Lane.

Half a year ago, Milo suggested that we shift our attention to our family, since the company had stabilized. Because of it, I set aside all company matters and took care of our lives.

Lily was the secretary he had hired to replace me at work.

She strutted over to me wearing a sexy one-piece dress and an expensive necklace. She was completely different from the shy and simple image she had presented upon joining the company.

I instantly got a bad feeling, and, the very next second, my lawyer’s message confirmed my theory.

[Miss York, the detective we hired found that the money was transferred to a bank account belonging to Lily Lane. She appears to be your husband’s lover.]

I knew it.

So, Milo went through all this to get a divorce from me, not just to claim the company and assets for himself, but also because he wanted to make Lily his main chick.

I clenched my fists.

“Why are you here? Didn’t I ask you to wait at the warehouse?”

Milo scowled in annoyance; he was surprised by Lily’s appearance as well. He urged her to leave with a hint of anger in his eyes.

“Mr. Cardilo,” she insisted. “You left a document in the warehouse. I think it’s an additional agreement. I brought it here for you and your wife.”

An additional agreement? I feigned calmness as I read the document. It wanted me to give up on both the apartment and car after our divorce. It seemed like the company and eight million dollars’ worth of profit were not enough to satisfy their greed.

I sneered and pretended to be naive as I looked at Milo.

“You want the house and car transferred under your name? Dear, didn’t you say that we were just faking our divorce and that I simply needed to give up on the company and bank savings? Where am I supposed to go if I have to leave the house?”

Milo was stunned, as if he had not known the existence of that clause.

In slight frustration, he grabbed Lily and whispered to her, “Where did you get that additional agreement from? That’s crossing the line. She’s my wife, and she should still be able to live in her house.”

Lily shook off his grip and smiled at me. “I’m sorry, Mrs. Cardillo. I know that this agreement is unfair to you, but you’ve been a housewife for too long and don’t know the situation at the company. We owe too much money, and Mr. Cardillo has been keeping the company afloat alone for too long.

“He’s only choosing to divorce you because he doesn’t want to drag you into this mess, but you’ve been enjoying free benefits all this while. You really shouldn’t let Mr. Cardillo be forced to pay the debt alone while you don’t have to pay a single cent for it.

“If you sell both house and car, Mr. Cardillo will be under much less financial pressure. Sorry, I really don’t want to see Mr. Cardillo under so much stress. I was also worried about your lives as a couple in the future. That’s why I asked a lawyer to come up with this additional agreement.”

Heh.

She made herself sound so convincing.

Had the truth not already been revealed to me, I might actually have signed this addition. Unfortunately for her, she was too arrogant and greedy, so much so that it flawed her plans. I coldly balled up the agreement and threw it on the floor.

“I won’t sign it. I’m not giving up on my house and car either.”

My refusal angered Lily. She gave the creditors a look, and the actors immediately surrounded me before pinning me on the table.

“You could have paid off some of the debt with this, but you still don’t want to?! You’re asking for it!”

After three months of rest, my body gradually recovered. Worried that I would be bored, my father suggested taking me to a musical theater production so that I could relax. The moment we reached the entrance, someone suddenly ran over and fell down by my feet. “Please! Save me!”With the help of the light, I saw a face I was almost unable to recognize. It was Milo. He was emaciated, and his face was covered in both fresh and old bruises. One of his eyes was swollen shut, and there was blood flowing from the corner of his mouth. “Stella, my beloved! Save me! They’re going to kill me!”He grabbed my pant leg, and I could smell the stench of urine and blood from him. A few men chased after him from an alley while cursing up a storm. “Damn it! He sure can run!”“I’m going to break his legs!”Milo trembled and held onto me even tighter, like I was his ticket to salvation. “Stella, no matter what, we’ve loved each other before! Please, save me! Please!”Hank walked out of th

“There’s no way!” Milo immediately said. “I just signed the divorce agreement, and that old man didn’t even check the clauses carefully! The company, house, and car are all mine! I just need to go to another place and to set up my business again! How much do you want? Just tell me.”Hank stared at him with mockery in his eyes before unfolding the divorce agreement. “Take a good look at what it said.”Milo drew closer and read with the help of the light from the entrance. The more he read, the paler his face became. “That’s… impossible…” His voice started quivering. “This… This isn’t the right agreement!”The document stated clearly that every asset, including the company, house, car, and bank savings, would belong to the wife. Milo was walking away with nothing. “This agreement has been switched out!” Milo whipped his head up with wide eyes. “The one I had prepared wasn’t like this!”“Shut up,” Hank interrupted him impatiently. “You’ve already signed it. Right now, you’re broke a

“Please spare me, Don York!” Lily was bawling so hard that her face was covered in tears and snot. “Milo is the one who tricked and hurt your daughter! I didn’t do anything! I’m just an innocent girl! I don’t know anything, Don York!”Milo’s eyes burned with fury. “You liar!” He grabbed her by her hair and smacked her. “Who’s the one who climbed into my bed and convinced me to take all the company’s profits for myself?! You’re the one who threatened to expose me if I didn’t get a divorce! Who’s the one who added the additional agreement on her own and refused to leave behind the house and car for Stella? How dare you push it all on me! I’ll kill you, you witch!”“Ah! Help! Let me go, Milo!” Lily screamed and scratched his face. Both of them fought like mad dogs. Since Milo’s ribs were broken, his movements were clumsy, but his hits were vicious. Lily did not back down. She bit, scratched, and kept cussing him out. “Enough,” my father said coldly. Two soldati went forward and sepa

The idiotic woman he schemed against was a Don’s daughter?“N-No way…” Milo mumbled with a pale face. In his rage, Hank kicked him again. “No way, my foot! You got me into this mess!”The metal door opened once again. My father walked in and sat down. Hank immediately fell to his knees and ducked his head. While ignoring the pain from his broken ribs, Milo crawled over and hugged my father’s leg. “Don York, I’m sorry! I really am! Please forgive me! Stella is my wife, and I’m part of your family!”“Part of my family?” My father kicked him away. “You convinced my daughter to run away from home and tried to trick her into a divorce because you cheated on her so that you could claim the company and assets all to yourself! Had my daughter not discovered your scheme, she would have been scammed. How dare you call yourself her husband!”Milo whipped his head up in shock and confusion. What? Stella already knew? Since when?My father scoffed. “Heh. You will now pay for your idiocy a

I was sent to the hospital in a hurry. After emergency treatment, I finally woke up. My father stayed beside me the entire time, and his eyes were filled with tender love. “How are you feeling, Stella? Does it hurt anywhere?”I shook my head. When I saw my father’s reddened eyes, I was filled with regret over running away from home for Milo all those years ago. “I’m sorry, Papa. You were right. I made the wrong decision…”“It’s okay, Stella. You’ll always be my most precious daughter.” My father held my hand and looked at the scar on my wrist. After staying silent for a long time, he said in anger, “I won’t spare any of the people who hurt you.”A soldato came in and whispered to my father, “We’ve got him, Don York. He’s in the basement.”My father nodded and tucked me in. “Let me handle this. Just focus on resting.”When he was about to leave, I grabbed him. “I want to see it.”My father watched me for a few seconds before nodding. “Alright. I’ll have someone push you to the

A few soldati rushed in and subjugated everyone in the office. My father helped me up worriedly and snapped, “Call an ambulance! Hurry!”Before Milo could even register what had happened, a bodyguard seized his shoulder and pinned him down, keeping him immobile.Lily still had not understood what was happening and cowered while she screeched, “Look, Mr. Cardillo! I was wondering why she agreed to a divorce so quickly! It’s because she already found another lover! This old man is clearly rich and powerful! She must have cheated on you and wants to cast you aside to live a better life!”Those words stung Milo like poison, and his expression turned as dark as thunderclouds. He pointed an accusing finger at my father and roared at the creditors. “Why are you still standing there?! Get him!”The men exchanged looks. None of them dared move. The people who rushed in were too terrifying and were clearly not pushovers. At that moment, my father moved. He did not even look at Milo w
