Amelia’s POV

I still stood there in my towel, my face flushed from the unexpected encounter. But soon enough, reality tugged me back.

I glanced at the clock and swore under my breath. I had to get to the office.

I rushed into the bedroom, yanking on a fitted blouse and skirt. My hair was a lost cause, so I twisted it into a quick bun.

In the kitchen, I shoved a piece of toast in my mouth as I skimmed through my phone.

My heart stopped when I saw a new video released by Victoria. The capthon read: "About Vera, my experience working with her."

Victoria’s face filling the screen in a shaky selfie video. A loose strand of hair stuck to her damp cheek as if she’d been crying.

In a trembling voice, she started: "We’ve all seen Vera Calloway’s interview circling the internet. I’m not sure if it’s true, but as her co-worker, I have to share my honest opinion… I have to expose the truth."

My breath hitched. Seriously?! As if that other video wasn’t damning enough?

Amelia’s POVThe moment I slid into my car, the adrenaline finally started to ebb, leaving behind a strange mix of euphoria and emotional whiplash. My hands were still shaking as I started the engine. Before I could overthink it, I hit Liz’s name on my phone. She picked up on the second ring. "Okay, spill. I can feel the drama vibrating through the universe."I let out a breathy laugh. "I, uh… I won. I won the design competition."There was a half-second of silence—then an ear-splitting shriek. "I KNEW IT! Oh my God, Amelia! First place?!""First place," I confirmed, smiling so hard my cheeks hurt."Say it again. Slowly. For my soul.""I. Won. The. Competition.""Yes!" she yelled. "I told you! I freaking told you! You’re brilliant, you genius, you emotionally tortured artist!"I laughed, tears pricking my eyes. "Thanks, Liz. I still can’t believe it. Half a million dollars… This is gonna change everything.""HALF A MILLION?!" she shrieked. "I expect a fabulous birthday gift next mont

Amelia’s POVI woke before my alarm, nerves already buzzing beneath my skin like static. Today was the day. The competition results would be released by noon.I told myself—firmly—not to get my hopes up.Naturally, my heart didn’t listen.I rolled onto my side and groaned softly. "Don’t do this to yourself," I muttered. "You’ll survive either way."But my thoughts were already racing ahead. If I won the cash prize, everything would change. I could resign from the Lancaster project. Clean break. No more walking on eggshells around Rowan. No more Sienna looming in the background like a storm cloud.I could start fresh. I’d finally be free.Hell, I could even work abroad if I wanted to. Paris. Copenhagen. Cape Town. The idea made my chest flutter, until my gaze drifted to the open window and the garden beyond it.My garden. My childhood home.I exhaled slowly. "Yeah… maybe not."Knowing my dad, the second I left the country he’d swoop in with his outdated taste and zero emotional awaren

  • After My Wedding Was Stolen, I Married Ex's Uncle   Chapter 188 - Confronting Completions

Amelia’s POVThe drive home from the hospital was quiet. In that heavy, exhausted way that comes after too much emotion in too little time. Gabriel kept both hands on the steering wheel. His posture was calm, controlled. Steady as always.“Thank you for bringing me home,” I said softly, breaking the silence. My voice sounded tired, even to me.He glanced at me, concern etched into his face. “Of course. I wasn’t going to let you deal with all of that alone.”I swallowed. “You’ve already done more than enough.”“That’s not how I see it,” he replied gently. “I care about you, Amelia.”There it was. The thing sitting between us for too long now. I shifted in my seat, fingers twisting together in my lap.“That’s exactly the problem,” I said quietly. He frowned, but didn’t interrupt. He never did. That was one of the things that made this so hard. When he parked in front of my house, he turned off the engine but didn’t move to get out. The car suddenly felt too small.“I need to be honest

Amelia’s POV"We’ve done every possible test, but couldn’t detect any medication overdose," the nurse said in a clipped, formal voice. The words hit me like ice water. For a moment, I was convinced I’d misheard. That the nurse would correct herself, clear her throat, flip the page, and say, ‘Actually—’But she didn’t. She simply stood there, professional and neutral as ever.I felt the blood drain from my face."W—what?" I whispered.Sienna let out a sharp, trembling laugh that cracked through the waiting room like glass. "Oh my God," she said loudly, pressing a hand to her chest. "Do you hear that? Did everyone hear that?"Rowan turned toward the nurse. "So… you’re saying there’s nothing in his system? Nothing abnormal?""That’s correct," the nurse replied. "All levels are within normal range for the prescriptions listed in his file."Sienna spun toward me, eyes blazing. "You see?" she shouted. "You absolute monster."I opened my mouth, but no sound came out."You dragged my child i

Amelia’s POV"Please," the doctor said firmly, stepping between us, palms raised. "Can we keep this civil?"Rowan’s grip loosened, though only barely. Sienna was still glaring at me like she wanted to peel my skin off layer by layer."I’ll be civil," she snapped at Rowan, though her eyes never left mine. "Now let go of me."Rowan exhaled sharply and stepped back, but his body stayed angled toward her. His jaw was clenched so tightly I could practically hear his teeth grinding."Everyone just calm down," the doctor added. "This is a hospital."I folded my arms, forcing my shaking hands to still. "Fine. Then let’s talk like adults."Sienna scoffed. "Oh, I can’t wait to hear this.""I want Liam’s care transferred to a different doctor," I said clearly. The room went dead silent. The doctor blinked. "Ms. Hartwell—""No," Sienna cut in sharply. "Absolutely not. You have no right—""I’m not asking your permission," I said coolly. "I’m stating what needs to happen.""You have no authority he

Amelia’s POVFor half a second, my brain tried to convince me this was another trick.Another manipulation. Another cruel little test. But no—this time there was no mischievous glint in Liam’s eyes, no suppressed grin, no laughter waiting to burst out. His body had gone slack, his head lolling to the side, his skin frighteningly pale."Oh my god—Liam!"I lunged forward, catching him just before he slid off the chair and hit the floor. His body was limp in my arms. Far too light, far too still.Panic surged through me, sharp and electric."Claudia!" I shouted as I ran through the hallway to the elevator, my voice shaking. "I need to leave—now!"She was already on her feet, eyes wide. "What happened?""He fainted. I think—no, he definitely fainted."I adjusted my grip on him, instinctively cradling his head against my shoulder, the way you would with a much younger child. The sensation was… unsettling. Like he was my responsibility, whether I wanted it or not.Claudia hovered helpless
