Chapter 3

Author: Mountain River
The next morning, Daniel appeared with a beautiful white evening gown. “There’s a banquet tonight. You’re coming with me.”

A banquet?

Before my Beta father died, I’d attended countless events like that. However, I no longer knew how to be around crowds.

Instinctively, I tried to refuse. “Alpha, can I not go? You should take Jessica instead.”

His eyes went cold instantly.

“My business partner values family and responsibility. In his view, only an Alpha with stability and a mate can be trusted.

“Rosie, don’t forget you’re still my mate. You made mistakes, but you’ve been punished. Attending this banquet with me is still your duty.”

That same icy look he’d given me three years ago, when he thought I’d pushed Jessica, was back.

A tremor ran through me, and I blurted an apology.

“I’m sorry, Alpha. I’ll be good and do whatever you need. Just don’t send me back.”

He gave a satisfied hum. “Show up at your best and don’t screw it up.”

Night fell, and the banquet hall blazed with lights.

While Daniel chatted easily with the evening’s most important business partner, I stood behind him like a shadow, a glass of wine in my hand that I didn’t even want.

I was afraid of drawing attention, so much so that even my breathing was quiet.

However, the thing you fear most always finds you.

A guest turned suddenly, and I sidestepped to avoid him, only to bump into a passing waiter.

“Crash!”

The wine glasses crashed one after another onto the floor. The sharp crack of glass rang out through the hall.

My heart leaped into my throat. The first instinct burned into me from Silver Prison was to apologize.

“I’m so sorry…” I bowed deeply, nearly folding myself in half.

Every eye in the room swung toward me, unhidden surprise on their faces.

Daniel’s expression darkened in an instant.

Only then did I realize how badly I’d slipped. A Luna wasn’t supposed to look this small.

“I need to go to the restroom,” I muttered, fleeing the scene in panic.

I stumbled into the bathroom, breathing hard, my heart pounding like a drum.

“Rosie, embarrassing yourself again?”

I whipped around to find that Jessica had followed me in with a triumphant smile on her face.

“I’ve been enjoying fine food with Daniel these three years while you’ve been whipped in Silver Prison. Doesn’t that feel unfair?”

I stayed silent. I didn’t want to fight.

With no one else around, she dropped the gracious act. Her hand shot out, striking me hard across the face.

“Weren’t you arrogant before? What’s wrong? Cat got your tongue? Remember this, Rosie. Stop reaching for what’s not yours. The future Luna will be me!”

Before Silver Prison, I would have said proudly I was Daniel’s destined mate and that he loved only me.

Now, I just held my burning cheek and whispered, “If you want it, take it.”

I was going to die anyway.

Jessica’s smile widened with satisfaction.

“Even if you try to fight me, I have endless ways to send you back to Silver Prison. I heard some guy there tried to assault you? Shame you fought him off.”

My heart lurched. How did she know about that?

Could all those deliberate cruelties in Silver Prison be tied to her?

Jessica had already turned to leave. My body shook as I tried to follow, but after only a few steps, something warm trickled from my nose.

One, two, three drops.

I reached up to stop it, but the blood kept pouring, staining the white gown red.

My strength drained out with it, and I collapsed hard onto the floor.

Meanwhile, Daniel had been waiting a long time without seeing me return. He sent a waiter to check, then turned back to his partner, speaking smoothly.

“Sorry for the scene. Rosie’s the Luna I’m preparing to claim. Lately, she’s gotten timid.

“She’s probably sulking about something. Next month, I’ll hold my bonding ceremony for her. I’ll send you an invitation. Hope you can come…”

At that moment, a scream echoed from the other side of the hall.

“Alpha Daniel, something’s happened! Your date’s covered in blood. She looks like she’s dying!”

  • After Silver Prison   Chapter 7

It was a bright, sunny afternoon when Daniel brought a wheelchair to my bedside and gently pushed me to Silver Prison. The moment we reached the gates, the familiar stench of blood and decay hit me. My body trembled uncontrollably, cold dread rushing from the soles of my feet all the way to the top of my head.Daniel sensed my fear. He patted my hand, his voice softer than I’d ever heard it. “It’s okay, Rosie. I’m here.”I didn’t answer. My body still remembered how to be afraid, but my soul had long since gone numb.He pushed me inside. The first thing I saw was Jessica, chained and hanging from the ceiling. Her skin was a mess of whip marks and open wounds, proof that she’d been living through hell these last few days.Seeing Daniel, her eyes lit up like she’d spotted a savior. She screamed, her voice desperate, “Daniel! Make them let me down… I can’t take this anymore…”Daniel’s gaze was like ice, though.“This is only the beginning. Every ounce of pain Rosie suffered, I’ll

Daniel kept shaking his head at my accusations, his voice trembling with panic.“I… I never told them to treat you like that.“Rosie, you have to believe me!”His excuses sounded weak and hollow. The guards had already confessed everything. It was all Jessica’s doing. But so what? Would they have dared to go that far without his silent approval?I looked at him calmly and said, my voice cold but steady, “Daniel, I’m dying.“I’m begging you. Just don’t come near me for the little time I have left. I don’t want to see you again.”I only wanted to leave this world quietly, without him haunting my last days.“Rosie, I’m sorry!” he blurted out, gripping my hand tightly, his emotions breaking through. “Three years ago, I should have never sent you to Silver Prison!”It was the first time I’d ever heard him say those words, but they didn’t stir anything inside me.I gently pulled my hand free and stared at him coldly. “It’s too late.”“Daniel, if the Moon Goddess gave me another

Seeing me remain silent, Jessica’s expression shifted to one of wounded innocence. She turned toward Daniel, who had just come downstairs, her voice trembling.“Daniel, I was only trying to talk to Rosie, to persuade her not to disappear again. I didn’t mean anything else. Is she still angry with me?”Daniel immediately frowned, his tone sharp as he barked at me. “Enough! Rosie, stop being so willful!”My body was already weak; I didn’t want to argue with either of them anymore.Daniel seemed ready to say something else, but his phone rang. Without looking at me, he strode toward the study, speaking into the phone as he disappeared inside. The moment he was gone, Jessica’s pitiful mask vanished. In its place was pure venom. She raised her hand, fury flashing in her eyes, and swung at my face. This time, however, I wasn’t the same person who had stood there and taken it in Silver Prison.Just as her palm was about to strike, I shot up my hand and grabbed her wrist in a steel

Through the chaos around me, I vaguely caught sight of a familiar figure forcing his way through the crowd. That face, always so cold, now wore panic for the first time. His lips were moving, shouting my name.“Rosie! Rosie!”This had to be a hallucination. After all, he couldn’t possibly care whether I lived or died.As my consciousness drifted, I slipped into a long, endless dream. In the dream, I was a young pup again, trailing after Daniel like a little shadow, my small voice calling out, “Daniel, wait for me!”He would stop under the sunlight, turn around with an exasperated look, and secretly press a piece of candy into my palm. Then, he said in a mock-annoyed tone, “Here. Now quit following me.”I always followed him anyway, and he never truly shook me off. Then the dream shifted to that rainy night three years ago.Daniel, now a grown up, held me close, his burning kiss falling on my forehead as he whispered, “Rosie, will you become my mate?”I’d thought all my year

As soon as Daniel brought me home, a figure instantly greeted us.It was Jessica. Wearing a pearl-toned luxury lace nightgown, she sashayed right in front of me.“Rosie, you’re finally back?” Each word dripped like sugar laced with venom. “You’ve lost so much weight. Are you okay?”I said nothing, my eyes staying glued to the floor. When I didn’t respond, her smile dropped, and she slipped seamlessly into her tragedy performance.“At least you came back. My poor unborn pup never even got the chance to see the world.”Right on cue, a tear slid from the corner of her eye.Daniel’s hand shot out, gripping my chin and forcing me to look at Jessica. “Did you hear what Jessica said?“Three years ago, if you hadn’t pushed her out of jealousy, that pup would still be alive. That pup would have been my heir.”The word “pup” hit me like a hammer.“I’m sorry. Losing a pup is painful,” I said hoarsely. “But I didn’t push Jessica. There must be some misunderstanding…”A flicker of guil
