It was leagues better than the one in her old apartment. Normally she wouldn’t have cared much, but ever since the pregnancy, her lower back had been in constant pain. Right now, this level of comfort felt almost miraculous.

Theo really is my lucky star, she thought.

The next morning, she sent Bella a message. She knew Bella probably wouldn’t be in the mood to reply, and there wasn’t much she could do to help, but she still wanted Bella to know she was there for her—because Emily understood just how fast someone could hit emotional rock

At the hospital."Congratulations, Mrs. Lopez. You're pregnant. The baby looks healthy."Emily gripped the report tightly. The doctor's words rang in her ears, and her face went blank with shock.Pregnant? She was stunned—and thrilled. It felt unreal. Her health had always been fragile, making it difficult to conceive. In the three years since their wedding, her belly had remained flat. She’d carried the guilt of not being able to give her husband a child. And now, out of nowhere, the universe had decided to give her this gift—right on their third wedding anniversary.Seeing the joy spread across Emily’s face, the doctor continued, "I’ll go ahead and set up your file. Make sure to bring the baby’s dad with you next time. A lot of things during pregnancy, he needs to hear too."Stepping out of the exam room, Emily gently laid a hand over her still-flat belly. There’s already a little life in here. The overwhelming emotion finally reached her eyes. She blinked quickly.I have to tell Aa

Divorce?Aaron visibly froze. His eyes flickered—just for a split second—but he quickly masked it with his usual calm.“That’s not a word you should throw around lightly.”He thought she was just being emotional, saying something she didn’t really mean. He reached out, trying to touch her cheek.“DON’T touch me.”Emily leaned back against the headboard, jerking her head away from his hand. Her gaze locked onto the bed sheets.Yeah… in the past three years, they’d barely fought. A few small arguments here and there, but he’d always been the first to make peace. For the first time that night, she could actually breathe.Aaron’s fingers slowly curled into a fist, then dropped to his side. Emily didn’t even look at him. The tension b

Aaron walked away without pushing further—his first time ever backing off. After glancing at Leo’s phone, his expression turned stiff. This time, Lilian’s gaze at Emily felt different. Emily brushed it off, assuming she was just curious about the gossip from lunch. After all, she wasn’t the only one getting odd looks lately—several coworkers had been sneaking glances her way.As she walked to the water dispenser, cup in hand, Emily couldn’t help but wonder: if even I was getting this much attention, what about Bella?Even if Bella was completely innocent, people always preferred their own narratives—saying things like "Something must’ve happened for it to blow up like that," or "Maybe she crossed a line and that’s why the wife reacted that way."

The lobby had been a mess, filled with Lucas's wife’s unrelenting shouting—"It’s this woman who messaged you!""She’s the one who asked you for money!""You keep saying you're busy at work because of her!"She didn’t stop yelling at Bella, and even dragged her own husband into it, cursing him out too. Emily couldn’t stand to watch. Within ten minutes of the whole thing starting, she quickly pulled Bella away. She really wanted to yell back at that woman, but that woman was absolutely insane, completely irrational, and impossible to reason with. Emily didn’t want Bella to suffer

Emily had been in her new team for two weeks now, and things were going well. She got along with everyone, and the team lead had been giving her assignments that played to her strengths—women’s wear. He even praised her designs as fresh and said her technical skills were solid. Several of her pieces had already been approved. She and Bella had grown closer too. Even though Bella had submitted her transfer request, the company required a one-month handover, so she still had two more weeks under Lilian. But ever since that incident, Lilian had kept a much lower profile. That afternoon, they were just getting back from lunch, chatting as they walked through the lobby and into the elevator. Bella, holding a fresh cup of coffee, was excitedly talking, "My cat’s so naughty, I can’t leave anything on my desk—if she sees it, she’ll just—"Bella stopped mid-sentence, freezing as the elevator doors were about to close. A familiar figure stepped in. It wasn’t until the doors shut that Lilian loo

Amelia looked up and caught Aaron’s gaze, deep and steady, his expression serious. "Emily’s misunderstood what’s going on between us. I don’t want that getting worse." Her breath hitched, her hands tightening into fists, nails digging into her palms to keep herself composed. Her voice trembled just slightly, "What? How could she think that? Do you want me to talk to her, clear things up?" "No." Aaron replied without hesitation. "You don’t need to get involved. I’ll handle it."Amelia frowned, voice tight, "But how can I not? This all started because of me. If I’d explained things better at the hospital, maybe you two wouldn’t have fought." Aaron glanced at her hand resting on the desk, and his tone softened. "That wasn’t your fault." Then, more gently, "Is your hand better?" She blinked, slowly opening her palm. "It’s fine now, really." A small, pink scar—only about two centimeters—stood out against her skin. The same hand that had been injured that night she’d called him in tea
