Eight years later

"Did you check the papers before handing them to Tennyson?" Clover coldly spoke on the call, clutching her fist tightly as she walked through the lobby.

The anger and power on her face were so clear that people walking around her felt intimidated. They maintained a fair distance as they walked past her.

"Boss, I was swamped, and Jenny wanted to be seen by you. I know it is my mistake that is why I am requesting you to give me at least a couple of hours, and I promise you, I will make everything right," Mark hurriedly spoke, wishing his boss to forgive him once. To this day, he came to know his boss liked the perfection to be held up more than anything else.

But what Jenny did was a big blunder. There were a couple of faults in the agreement, which was why it was sent to the upper board for modification, but Jenny thought sending the files to the Tennyson company by herself would give her the light she had been looking for since she joined the Hastings company.

"I do respect your promise but I love my deals more. I'm giving you six hours to make things right and arrange a meeting with the CEO of Tennyson tomorrow," said Clover, pressing the card onto the door lock and the room opened. She went inside and threw the shoulder bag onto the bed.

"Right away, boss!" Mark replied and was about to cut the call when Clover interrupted, "Mark, I… I want you to announce my arrival!"

"What?" Came a surprise reply from Mark, " “Weren't you warned not to tell the media or anyone about your arrival in Manhattan?" Mark repeated what he had been warned about earlier.

"I had thought so, but it seems that I will have to announce my arrival now. So make this possible within a few hours," Clover replied with a sluggish tone as if she was forced to take this step while a strong unwillingness had her voice clogged.

"Boss, are you okay? Is there any problem?" Mark further added. Clover decided to be in Manhattan for a week just for the deal with Tennyson. Even though wherever her Boss went made the front page in the following day's newspaper, this time she made it clear by no means that the security of her in Manhattan could be taken lightly.

"Yes, I am fine, Mark. I have been summoned by my family. They informed me that my father is not well, and he wants to meet me," Clover replied.

"How come they find out about your whereabouts?"

"I don't know, but I feel like I have been monitored twenty-four hours by someone since the day I walked out of the airport. I cannot quite pinpoint who and why I feel that, but my intuition has never failed me," Clover explained her trepidation to Mark, who was the only person right now who knew a majority of things about Clover.

"Why didn't you tell me all this before?" Mark said, "Alright, I am working on this too, but first, I will have to check your security once again. Until then, don't go out."

"This is not possible since I am heading out for my home this evening," Clover paused.

"Alright, as you want," Mark said. Even though he wanted his boss not to go to her house right at that moment, his boss would do whatever she decided.

"But take care that your phone should never be switched off at any cost," Mark alerted Clover.

"Hmmm...Call the designer and arrange a dress for me," Clover said and cut the call, leaving Mark to have so many questions in his head because he could feel his boss was hiding something.

Meanwhile, Clover dialled another number as she sat at the edge of the bed.

"Damn it! What is wrong with you? Why do I no longer have any information about you? It's been eight years since you disappeared without any trace," Clover muttered, holding her phone in her hand, and the call was disconnected again. "My war is about to begin. I really need to talk to you."

Clover pursed her lips and placed her phone on the mattress before stretching her body onto it.

She knew her father was in better health, but she had to pretend to be blind.

Last night, she let herself be exposed to her stepmother, who happened to be shopping in a mall.

Clover knew her stepmother was going to follow her.  Hence, she deliberately left her number at a clothing showroom.

And just as she thought, her father called her the same night and pleaded with her to come home.

‘I can’t wait to start what I am here for!’ Clover’s eyes narrowed coldly to the space, and a firm intention was displayed on her expression.

At that moment, the bell of the door rang, and Clover got up from the bed and walked to the door.

She saw a woman, holding two dresses for her. It left her utterly confused because she had just asked Mark to send her the dress. Then how did he send it so quickly? It hadn't even been half an hour yet.

"Yes!" Clover responded.

"These are for you," said the woman and shoved the dresses into Clover's hands.

"Who sent these dresses, and who are you?" Clover asked to confirm whether she was sent by Mark. Apart from that, the girl standing in front of her did not look like a helper or any employee of this hotel at all.

"Have a good day, Madam!" The girl said, adding a smile at the end before turning around and walking away.

Clover frowned, standing at the door, still as she watched the girl go into the elevator. The doubts she had about this dress appeared to be correct.

So, she shut the door and placed the dresses on the couch before grabbing the phone. She dialled Mark and asked him about her dresses, and he told her he was still looking for a designer in Manhattan.

Hearing that, Clover looked over her shoulder to the couch and said, "You don't have to send any dresses."

"Okay!" Mark said.

Clover cut the call and turned around, placing both her hands on her waist. Then she went ahead to the couch and touched the dresses. The fabric in her fingers felt the quality of the gowns.

“Who sent them?” She muttered, “Besides, why were all the party gowns?”

Clover's eyes narrowed dangerously.

★★★★★ "You did this! Don't you?" Zona asked, spitting hatred as soon as she found Clover alone. "Mom... stop," Cindy said, holding her hand to her lap. She was not happy that her mom was dragging Clover at this time, not because her father and Kayden were present, but rather it was such a moment when she could not enjoy any fun. "Relax, no one is sitting with us which is well aware by her. So if she speaks of her intention no one is going to hear," Zona added with her eyes furious toward Clover. "I have too many intentions toward you and your daughter, vile and bloody... but since none of them have happened yet, you can relax thinking whatever happens to your daughter is not my fault," Clover spat, her mood was far from fine,. Now the duo in front of her made her irked. "This is the face I was talking about. I don't know why he thought to invite you back for breakfast. But just like the previous night, you again cost us dearly," Zona said to Clover and her eyes moved swiftly to he

  • After the CEO's Divorce, I became his uncle's bride   why are you with her!?

☆★★★★"Enough!" Mr Hasting retorted coldly when he understood what his wife was hinting at, even though Clover was still unconscious in Kayden's hands. "Since the doctor is coming, Clover should get checked too.""Yeah, something seems truly wrong!" Kayden said."Take her to a room," Mr Hasting said, and Kayden nodded, but before he could pick her up to carry, Zona shouted, "Are you out of your mind? How can you ask your son-in-law to carry Clover?""It's fine, Mrs Hasting. I can carry her!" Kayden replied without getting the meaning behind Zona's words. Meanwhile, Cindy, who was writhing in pain earlier, now stared at Kayden in shock; the pain could now be felt in her heart. Her hand got burned and she had tears in her eyes, but instead of paying attention to her, Kayden was thinking of carrying Clover to the room.'How could a man remain passive to the woman he loved and was about to marry?' Her heart became heavy as her tears rolled out continuously in silence."It's not about you

★★★★★"There is one Conny family in the town! I'm surprised none of you know anything about Conny and his son," Kayden said to Zona before his eyes went to Clover's father, and Kayden's eyes narrowed slightly. Somehow, Clover managed to raise doubts in him."Dad surely knows nothing about it, otherwise, he himself would thrash the family on the road," Cindy interrupted, her tone was urgent. She did not know what was taking her father to speak, but his silence tensed the atmosphere more."Oh, he can't..." Clover straightened her posture and added, "He's got 4.1 billion in his account, ranks number one in owning cruises. Bagged a position on the top twenty billionaire list. So technically, there is no way, Dad can pull even a strand of hair from his head."Zona's jaw hit the ground hearing this. It clearly meant Clover knew about Brandon yet she agreed to marry him."You know this. Why didn't you refuse earlier or speak about the information we heard from Kayden? What were you waiting f

  • After the CEO's Divorce, I became his uncle's bride   Are we talking about the same person?

★★★★★ "Since you didn't see his presence on the table, I assure you, you have no idea why he is with us this morning," Mr Hasting spoke, grabbing Clover's attention. Since the entire family decided to take things easy with Clover, he was not going to fan the intention Clover had. And for that, all of them had to ignore whatever she was doing, which was the 'provocation.' "I assume..." Clover paused, twisting her countenance as if she was remembering something. Then giving rest to her expression she added, "I did something," she raised both her shoulders, "I mean you asked me to guess the reason, so it's clear I am the one who stepped on his forbidden boundary and he came here for justice," Clover said, dropping her shoulders. "Whatever you are doing, you are doing it out of anger, Clove... Clover. Somewhere deep down you should be afraid that the consequences could be disastrous, but you are Cindy's sister, so I have come here only to talk," Kayden interrupted, locking gaze on Clov

★★★★"Are you into some kind of trouble?" Mark asked Clover, who was sitting quietly in the passenger seat, looking very suspicious. Her eyes were straight on the road, but she wasn't in the car; rather, she looked lost in some deep thoughts."What kind of person is he?" Clover said, shifting his eyes to Mark."Who are you talking about exactly?" Mark questioned back as he moved the wheel to the right, taking the sharp arc, leaving the highway."Joshua Hudson?" Clover spat, a small irritation lingered in her tone as if mentioning his name brought back those annoying moments in her head."Looks like a cunning businessman. I'm not sure about his heart. In sooth, I didn't pay much attention to him, especially when I had no reason to see him as a good person. By the way, why do you ask? Has he done something more than acquiring the Tennyson project?" Mark asked, glancing at Clover as well as slowing the car."Nothing," Clover replied, heaving a breath."It would be easy for us if we becam

★★★★★ "Excuse me!" Clover turned back, frowning. "You are telling me that I need to take your permission to leave this cafe!" "If my tone says that, then I don't see anything wrong with it," Joshua said, coming to a stop right before Clover, looking down at her with an arrogant gaze that said he owned her. "You cannot talk to me like that, Mr Hudson. You own this place not me. If you step aside kindly, I will be grateful since the time for an extended chat is no longer in my hands," Clove replied curtly, wondering at the same time what he was up to by blocking her path. "Oh I can, Miss Hasting. You plotted to get the land, one that's practically useless to you and then you showed up, proudly mentioning Tennyson's project. You make me think that living a stable life is not your actual goal, but rather you want revenge. Don't you?" His voice came low, but no anger reflected. He was not mad at Clover. "You understand me better than anyone," Clover smiled gently. She tried to provoke
