Victor's POV

It took another day of calculations and preparations, but Rosalie and I finally got the sales figures in and well… It was a lot worse than either of us had anticipated.

I knew that our numbers were bound to fall a little short because of that new Italian brand, but I wasn't expecting them to fluctuate the way they were.

Hell, the chart made our numbers look like a rollercoaster.

Whoever the CEO was, I knew I needed to get into contact with them. It was clear that this brand was another rival—and a big one at that.

But when I or even Rosalie tried, we were denied. So far, it was only by email, since they didn't have an office number yet.

How was it that this brand was completely brand new to the market but already causing a ruckus with our sales figures? Just how powerful was this Italian brand?

For a split second, I wondered if the company could possibly belong to Emelia. After all, she was the only one I knew personally that had gone to Italy, and was in the same line of

Emelia's POVOver the course of the next few days, I immersed myself into my work as I prepared the new office space for all of my future colleagues. Even though it took an additional two days of settling it with the bank, before I knew it, I'd secured the loan for the new building. Now I was out with Alexis, deciding on all the interior design for the office—from the wall paint, the floorings, to the furniture, and everything in between."So, Em, what kind of flooring were you thinking for the space?" Alexis eyed the different panels in front of us. "There's a lot to choose from and honestly... it's making my head hurt."I laughed. "Well, luckily I already have a plan in mind for each of the rooms and different spaces.""Oh, is that so?" Alexis tilted her head to the side. "Do, tell, bestie, because I've always wondered how that design brain of yours thinks.""Well, let's start with the lobby and reception area—the first place everyone sees. To me, I think it's important that people w

Emelia's POVI decided to wait until we got to the hotel to tell Alexis what I'd seen at the red light. While I knew we weren't being followed, something under my skin couldn't shake the feeling away of being watched.Victor's network and reach extended well all over the city and the neighboring ones around us. It meant that it was only a matter of time until he actually figured out that I was home. But I was hoping that it wouldn't be for another few months or so… Not when I JUST stepped off the plane a few hours ago.The hotel room was spacious as we stepped into the entryway. We took our shoes off and put on the complimentary slippers as we then made our way into the bedroom.I tossed my luggage onto the bed and began to nervously unpack everything. My nerves were still on edge as my hands shook with everything I picked up.Then a gentle hand rested on mine. When I looked up, I saw Alexis looking at me with concern."You're shaking like a chihuahua, and you're as pale as a ghost." H

Victor's POVAfter I'd put Violet down for her nap, I left the house again. I needed to get more work done, but I honestly didn't want to go wherever Lily could potentially find me.If anything, I still felt drained after our earlier encounter, so I opted for a coffee shop that was in the downtown district.Traffic was horrible as it always was, but I wasn't in any particular hurry today. As I came to a red light, I took a deep breath to try and calm my racing mind.I truly had no idea what I was going to do with the rival business that was set to touch down in Greenport anytime now. This industry was cutthroat, but I was more interested in making a potential friend and collaborator than an enemy. With how much their influence was already affecting the market, I couldn't afford to make yet another enemy. I had enough of those in my personal life anyway.I looked up at the red light and sighed. Has it always taken this long? It wasn't even rush hour.As I continued to sit there, I could

Emelia's POVFlying first class had its perks, but it sure as hell didn't change the fact how I left the aircraft with a weight on my shoulders and heavy eyebags. I was high strung—tense and already stressed.I just got here… I shouldn't have been feeling like this already.I made my way down the long hallways and through the terminal to get to the baggage claim area. The rest of my things were supposed to come in tomorrow, so that would at least buy me some time to get readjusted post jet-lag.Once I'd gathered my things and made my way to the under-deck garage, I waited outside for an available taxi. As one looked like it was about to pull up in front of me, a large, all-white SUV cut it off. Irritation began to bubble in my chest until the driver stepped out of the car and ran right for me.I recognized that voluminous head of wavy blonde hair anywhere! "Alexis!""Oh, Emmy!" My best friend's body collided with mine as she embraced me like I was the anchor keeping her to this Earth.

Victor's POVFire continued to burn the inside of my skin the longer I stared down at Lily. I hated that the one thing tying us together was her daughter, and it angered me that she had to be the collateral in this loveless, horrible ruse of ours. It didn't even feel right to call it a marriage. After our argument the other day when I brought up that we did not need to officially be married to appease the shareholders, I was served documents to make it official anyway. Supposedly, the order came from Layla herself, although I never got a hold of her to confirm it. As much as I didn't want to sign the papers, if the order did end up coming from Layla, then the last thing I needed was to make an enemy out of her. Not the one person who actually had a strong influence on the company's success. Once again, Lily proved to me why I would never be able to return her twisted version of love she claimed to have for me. "You think you can get rid of me?" Lily sneered. "You think just becaus
