Morgan struggled desperately under her grip, unable to breathe. His face turned bright red as he frantically clawed at her arms, but June's fingers only tightened around his throat.

"June… you've lost your mind…"

Only when Morgan was nearly suffocating did June suddenly come back to her senses. The alcohol cleared from her head in an instant.

Morgan braced himself against the wall and staggered backward step by step, fear and hatred filling his eyes.

The beggar slowly lowered the hands shielding her head and looked up at me.The moment our eyes met, both of us froze. Her face had become so gaunt that she was nearly unrecognizable. Still, I knew who she was at once—June. The once-glorious station chief who had stood at the center of everything had now fallen so low that she had become a beggar everyone despised.I slowly stood up and instinctively took a step back. June simply tilted her head up at me, her eyes gradually reddening. After so many years apart, neither of us had expected our reunion to happen like this.Out of basic kindness, I still took June to the hospital. To me now, she was nothing more than a pitiful stranger. After the examination, I learned that her body was covered in old injuries. This time, she had also broken two ribs. The child had been lost long ago because of alcohol abuse and prolonged emotional distress. After imaging scans, the doctors discovered large shadows covering her lungs. The prelimina

The alcohol cleared from her head in an instant.Morgan braced himself against the wall and staggered backward step by step, fear and hatred filling his eyes."June, you couldn't even stay loyal to your husband. Now he's gone and doesn't want you anymore—you think you can still keep anyone by your side? You think you're any decent yourself? If anyone's shameless and pathetic here, it's you." Morgan's voice turned vicious as he clutched his neck. "I'm telling you right now. If you don't divorce Ian, I'll die right in front of you."With that, he suddenly turned and rushed toward the window, climbing onto the sill using both hands and feet. The night wind rushed inside, blowing his hair in

At Olivia's words, June's expression darkened. "Olivia, how did you know Ian left? When was the last time you saw him?"Olivia thought for a moment before pouting slightly. "About a month ago. That afternoon, he missed the shuttle and said he was heading to the airport. So I asked my boyfriend to give him a ride since he was heading to the city anyway."The news struck June like thunder. "What did you say? Ian went to the airport?"Olivia nodded. "Yeah. Didn't Ian already request leave? Why do you sound like you had no idea, Ms. Sheffield?"June froze in place, her face turning pale one moment and grim the next. "When… When Ian left, did he say anything else to you?"Olivia shook her head. "Nothing much. I just thought it was strange. You're pregnant now, but instead of staying by your side, he ran off by himself. He's about to become a father, but he's really careless."June abruptly looked up in response. "What did you just say? Ian knew I was pregnant too?"Olivia jumped at h

A week passed in the blink of an eye, yet June still had not realized I was gone. That day, as she walked past my dorm like usual, her footsteps suddenly slowed. She stood outside the door, staring at it for several seconds.Ever since the day she stormed out and slammed the door behind her, she had not come back once. And I, meanwhile, had seemingly vanished off the face of the earth. The base was not that big. People crossed paths constantly, yet somehow, after all this time, she had not run into me even once. The thought left June feeling faintly uneasy. She raised a hand and knocked on the door, but no matter how many times she tried, nobody answered. Her patience quickly wore thin. Frowning, she raised her voice through the door. "Ian, how long are you planning to hide from me? Even throwing a tantrum has its limits."When the room remained silent, she softened her tone. "Ian, stop being mad already, okay? If you keep this up, people will only laugh at us. I already had your

Inside the office, Morgan suddenly muttered, "June, did you deliberately hide it from Ian because you're afraid Ian will be heartbroken after finding out?"June paused briefly."Of course not. It just happened to coincide with the base's quarterly inspection period back then. Ian is one of the technical department's core staff. "If I'd let him go home for the funeral, the round trip would've taken at least half a month. Not only would it delay the project, but once he came back, I'd still have to comfort him. Too much trouble."At that moment, I nearly broke apart.June had hidden my parents' deaths from me. She had even cruelly stolen away my final chance to see them one last time. And it had not been because she was afraid I would be devastated. She simply didn't want me leaving and affecting the project schedule at the base.Back then, I had turned down a million-dollar annual salary offer. Ignoring my parents' objections, I insisted on following her to the desert. We fou

The answer was obvious. It pierced into me like a needle buried deep in flesh. The moment I returned to the dorm and shut the door, my body finally hit its limit. My legs gave out beneath me, and I collapsed onto the bed without even the strength to move.I did not know how long I slept, but somewhere in my haze, I vaguely heard someone speaking. When I forced my eyes open, I realized June was sitting beside the bed at some point, staring at me with concern written all over her face. "Ian, people from your department said you never showed up to work today. I was worried something had happened to you, so I rushed back right after the meeting ended."She paused and reached out to touch my forehead. "Are you feeling any better now? Does anything still hurt?"I instinctively turned my head away.June frowned slightly at the reaction, but her voice softened even more. "Ian, Morgan is my subordinate. It's only natural for me to take extra care of him. I know you've felt wronged latel
