Alpha Victor Kane was holding court in the main lounge, surrounded by other Alphas who seemed to enjoy his company. He was massive, easily six feet five with muscles like carved stone. Scars covered his arms and face, marks of countless battles won.

He looked up when I entered, a cruel smile spreading across his face.

“Well, well. The little silver pup herself.” His voice boomed through the room. “Come to defend your stolen pack?”

Every conversation stopped. All eyes turned to us. This was exactly what he wanted. A public spectacle.

“I didn’t steal anything. I won Crescent Ridge fairly through ritual combat.” I kept my voice calm and clear. “But I hear you have questions about my legitimacy.”

“Questions? I have facts.” Victor stood, towering over me. “You’re twenty-two years old. Been Alpha for what, six months? You have no experience, no real training, no right to lead a pack.”

“I have every right. The pack accepted me. The Council recognised me. Your opinion doesn’t change that.”

“My opinion matters because I’ve been Alpha for thirty years. I know weakness when I see it.” He circled me like a predator. “You’re playing dress up, little girl. Pretending to be something you’re not.”

“Then challenge me officially.” I met his eyes without flinching. “Put your reputation where your mouth is. Or are you afraid a little girl might beat you?”

The room erupted in whispers. Challenging an Alpha publicly was serious. It couldn’t be ignored or dismissed.

Victor’s smile widened. “You want a challenge? Fine. Tomorrow morning. Main arena. We’ll see how long you last.”

“Agreed.” I turned to leave, but he called after me.

“One condition. When I win, you forfeit Crescent Ridge to me. I’ll absorb your pack into mine.”

My blood ran cold. That wasn’t standard. Losing usually meant just stepping down, not giving up your entire territory.

“And when I win?” I asked, turning back.

“You won’t.”

“Humour me.”

Victor considered for a moment. “If you somehow beat me, I’ll submit to Council investigation without protest. Let them examine my pack’s records, question my wolves, whatever they want.”

That was exactly what I needed for my assignment. But the risk was enormous. If I lost, forty-three wolves would suffer under his cruelty.

“Deal,” I said before I could second-guess myself.

We shook hands, sealing the challenge. His grip was crushing, trying to hurt me. I didn’t give him the satisfaction of flinching.

As we left, Maya grabbed my arm. “Are you insane? You just bet your entire pack!”

“I know what I did.” My hands were shaking but I kept walking. “But this is the fastest way to complete the investigation. If I win, I get full access to his territory.”

“If you lose, our wolves become his prisoners.” Dax’s face was tight with worry. “Alpha, this is too risky.”

“Maybe. But I’m not going to lose.” I had to believe that. Had to trust in my training and power.

Word spread fast. By dinner, everyone knew about the challenge. Alphas approached me constantly, some offering advice, others just wanting to see if I was scared.

Kaden found me on the terrace after the meal. “Please tell me you’re not actually fighting Victor Kane tomorrow.”

“I am.”

“Aria, he’s killed challengers before. Multiple times. He fights dirty and doesn’t stop until his opponent can’t get up.” Kaden’s fear was genuine. “You could die.”

“I could. But I won’t.” I appreciated his concern, even if I didn’t want to. “I’m stronger than you remember.”

“I know you are. I saw what you did to those rogues. But Victor is different. He’s fought hundreds of battles.” Kaden moved closer, his voice dropping. “Let me help. I can give you information about his fighting style. His weaknesses.”

“Why would you know that?”

“Because I’ve fought him before. Years ago in a training exhibition. He nearly killed me.” Kaden’s expression was haunted. “He goes for the throat early. Tries to end fights fast. If you can survive the first few minutes, he gets tired. His stamina isn’t great.”

The information was useful, even coming from Kaden. “Thank you.”

“Aria.” He caught my hand gently. “Please be careful. I couldn’t bear it if something happened to you.”

“You don’t get to care about that anymore.” I pulled my hand away. “You gave up that right.”

“I’ll never stop caring. No matter what you think of me.” His voice was raw with emotion. “You’re still my mate. That bond doesn’t just disappear because I made terrible choices.”

“Maybe not. But it doesn’t mean anything either.” I started to walk away, then paused. “The throat strike. Does he always go left or right?”

“Left. He favours his left side for power strikes.” Kaden looked relieved that I was accepting his help. “And watch his back legs. He’ll try to kick you if you get behind him.”

“Good to know.” This time I left without looking back.

That night, I couldn’t sleep. My mind kept running through scenarios. Victor was bigger, stronger, and more experienced. On paper, I shouldn’t win.

But I had something he didn’t. Pure Alpha bloodline. Silver Moon power. And the determination of someone who’d lost everything and built it back from nothing.

“You’re going to be fine,” Maya said from her bed. She couldn’t sleep either. “You’re the strongest person I know.”

“I’m terrified,” I admitted.

“Good. Fear keeps you sharp.” She sat up. “Remember your training. Trust your instincts. And don’t hold back. He won’t.”

Dawn came too fast. The arena was outdoors, a large circle marked in the dirt. Stands surrounded, filling quickly with spectators. Apparently, everyone wanted to watch this fight.

Elder Thorne found me before it started. “The Council is watching. If this gets too dangerous, they’ll intervene.”

“Don’t. Whatever happens, let it play out.” I needed to prove myself without help.

“Very well. But Aria, remember what I taught you. Power means nothing if you don’t control it. Stay focused. Stay smart.”

Victor was already in the arena when I entered. He’d stripped to just pants, showing off his massive muscles and countless scars. Trying to intimidate me with his size.

I wore simple fighting clothes. No need for theatrics.

The crowd quieted as Elder Marcus stepped forward to officiate.

“This is an official Alpha challenge. Victor Kane of the Northern Pines versus Aria Silvermoon of Crescent Ridge. The fight continues until one submits or cannot continue.” He looked at both of us. “Keep it clean. No killing strikes. Begin when ready.”

Victor shifted immediately into his wolf form. A huge dark brown beast with yellow eyes. He snarled, showing massive teeth.

I shifted too, my silver fur gleaming in the morning light. I was smaller but faster. Had to use that advantage.

The crowd gasped at my silver wolf form. Many had never seen one before.

Victor didn’t give me time to think. He charged immediately, going for my throat just like Kaden had warned.

I dodged left, feeling his teeth snap shut inches from my neck. His momentum carried him past me. I spun and raked my claws across his shoulder.

First blood was mine.

Victor roared, angry now. He came at me again, faster this time. His teeth caught my leg, tearing flesh. Pain shot through me but I didn’t stop. Couldn’t stop.

I called on my silver power, feeling it flood through me. My next strike sent him flying backwards several feet.

The crowd erupted in shocked murmurs. They hadn’t expected me to match his strength.

Victor circled me warily now. Reassessing. I’d surprised him. Good.

We clashed again and again. Teeth and claws. Blood and fur. He was stronger but I was faster. He had experience but I had power he’d never encountered.

Time blurred. Pain became background noise. All that mattered was the fight. Proving myself. Protecting my pack.

Victor started to slow. His breathing was laboured. Kaden had been right about his stamina.

I pressed my advantage, pushing him back with strike after strike. Silver light surrounded me, making my attacks even stronger.

Finally, I had an opening. He lunged left, trying for my throat again. I dropped low, coming up under him. My jaws closed around his throat. Not biting, just holding. Showing I could kill him if I chose.

“Submit,” I commanded through our wolf connection.

For a long moment, he resisted. Then slowly, his body went limp. Submitting.

I released him and stepped back, panting hard. Blood dripped from multiple wounds but I’d won.

The arena was silent. Then erupted in chaos. Cheers and shocked exclamations.

I’d done it. Beat a veteran Alpha in single combat. Proved I belonged here.

Victor shifted back to human, clutching his throat. “How? You’re just a child.”

“I’m a Silver Moon Alpha.” I shifted too, standing tall despite my injuries. “And I earned this victory.”

Elder Marcus raised my hand. “The winner is Alpha Aria Silvermoon. The challenge conditions are binding.”

Which meant Victor had to allow the investigation. I’d succeeded in my mission.

As medical staff rushed to treat our wounds, I caught Kaden’s eye in the crowd. He was staring at me with pure awe and pride.

But it was Elder Thorne’s approving nod that meant more.

I’d proven myself today. Not just to the Council or other Alphas.

To myself.

We returned to Crescent Ridge exhausted but victorious. The pack greeted us with howls of celebration. Word had spread about Martin’s capture. About the evidence we’d gathered. About justice served. But I didn’t feel victorious. I felt hollow. Drained. Like I’d given everything and had nothing left.“You need rest,” Sarah said, taking one look at me. “Real rest. Not just a night’s sleep.”“I need to review the pack business. Check reports. Make sure everything ran smoothly while I was gone.”“Everything ran perfectly. Ghost and I handled it.” She physically steered me toward my quarters. “You’re taking three days off. Minimum. No arguments.”I was too tired to argue. For three days, I did nothing. Slept. Ate. Sat in the sun. Let my body and mind heal from months of constant stress.Kaden stayed with me. Not hovering. Just present. Reading while I napped. Bringing me food. Existing quietly beside me.On the fourth day, I finally felt like myself again. Strong. Clear-headed. Ready to re

  • After the Rejection I Became His Luna   Chapter 30: The Trial Month

The month with Ghost’s rogue pack was enlightening and challenging. They camped in the northern meadow as agreed, setting up temporary shelters that somehow looked both desperate and hopeful.I visited daily, observing. Assessing. Looking for red flags.Ghost proved to be an excellent leader. He kept his wolves disciplined. Organized. They worked hard on the tasks we assigned. Clearing brush. Repairing fences. Helping with harvest. Never complaining. Never causing trouble. But I noticed other things too. The way some flinched when I approached too quickly. The scars that spoke of serious abuse. The hollow looks in younger wolves’ eyes.“They’ve been through hell,” Maya observed during one visit. “Most of them, anyway. A few might be lying about their backgrounds, but the majority? They’re genuine refugees.”I pulled Ghost aside one evening. “Tell me the truth. All of it. Where did these wolves really come from?”He was quiet for a moment, weighing whether to trust me. Finally, he spok

  • After the Rejection I Became His Luna   Chapter 29: The Formal Alliance

The alliance ceremony was held on neutral ground. A wide clearing between our territories where ancient pack treaties had been signed for generations. Hundreds of wolves attended. Members from both packs. Visiting Alphas. Council representatives. Even humans who worked closely with pack territories.I stood at one end of the clearing in formal silver robes that matched my wolf form. Kaden stood at the other end in deep black. We’d spent weeks planning this ceremony. Making sure every detail honoured both traditions and the new path we were forging.Elder Marcus of the Council stepped forward to officiate. “We gather today to witness something unprecedented. Two Alphas. Two packs. Choosing partnership over dominance. Cooperation over conquest.”His voice carried across the silent crowd. “Alpha Aria Silvermoon of Crescent Ridge. Alpha Kaden Nightshade of Shadowpine. Step forward.”We walked toward the centre. Meeting in the middle. Equals.“State your intentions,” Elder Marcus commanded

  • After the Rejection I Became His Luna   Chapter 28: Challenges From Within

Life settled into a beautiful rhythm over the next few months. I split time between Crescent Ridge and Shadowpine. Both packs adapted to their Alpha having a mate in another territory. It wasn’t traditional, but it worked.Maya took on more leadership in my absence. She was brilliant at it. Dax handled security flawlessly. My pack thrived.Kaden and I were planning something bigger. A formal alliance between our territories. Not a merger, but a partnership. Equal standing. Shared resources. Joint defense. It would be the first agreement of its kind. Two Alphas working together without one submitting to the other.“The Council loves the idea,” Elder Thorne told us during a meeting. “It’s exactly the kind of progressive cooperation your parents advocated for, Aria. If this works, other packs might follow.”“That’s a lot of pressure,” I admitted.“You’ve handled worse.” He smiled. “Besides, you two make an excellent team. Complementary strengths. Mutual respect. That’s rare between Alpha

Three months into our renewed relationship, I finally agreed to visit Shadowpine. Not as a servant or a rejected mate, but as a visiting Alpha. As Kaden’s equal. The difference was striking from the moment we crossed the border. Warriors saluted me. Showed respect. No one looked through me like I was invisible.“This feels surreal,” I told Kaden as we drove through familiar territory. “Everything looks the same but feels completely different.”“Because you’re different. And because I’ve made it clear that disrespecting you means disrespecting me.” He glanced at me. “Are you okay? We can leave anytime if this is too much.”“I’m okay. Nervous, but okay.”The pack house looked exactly as I remembered. Grand. Imposing. Full of memories both sweet and painful.Pack members gathered in the main hall to greet us. Faces I recognised. Some had been kind when I was a servant. Others had been cruel. An omega I remembered, one who’d enjoyed mocking me in the kitchens, approached cautiously. “Alph

The Council moved quickly. Within a week, Garrett was formally charged with attempted murder, abuse of pack members, and the death of the previous investigator. The evidence was overwhelming. The recordings, witness testimony, and years of documented cruelty. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. His pack was placed under temporary Council oversight while they searched for new leadership.Thomas was offered the Alpha position. He declined.“I’m not ready. Maybe someday, but not now.” He looked at me with gratitude. “But I want to help choose who leads us. Make sure it’s someone good. Someone fair.”The Council agreed. For the first time, pack members would have a voice in selecting their Alpha. It was a small step toward the kind of system my parents had envisioned.During the weeks of hearings and transitions, Kaden stayed. Not pushing. Not demanding anything. Just present. Helping where he could. Proving through actions that he meant what he’d said. One evening, after a particularl
