Chapter 4

Penulis: Gathering Clouds
“I don’t need it,” I said coldly.

“Huh?” Tiara seemed genuinely surprised.

I didn’t bother being polite.

“It seems like everyone’s brains here are just for decoration. If my mother ‘stole’ her father from her mother, then she should be older than me, shouldn’t she?”

“Sorry, but I haven’t fallen so low that I need help from an illegitimate daughter.”

“Raquel Jackson!”

Matthew finally spoke, but only to warn me for another woman’s sake.

I glanced at him. “Buy it out.”

Tiara sneered. “But Raquel, you don’t have any money left.”

I chuckled.

“How exactly do you know I’m out of money? I’m buying it out. Not just for this one. I’m buying out all 520 paintings in this hall.”

Everyone burst into laughter. They looked at me as if I were a complete idiot.

The host didn’t even acknowledge what I said and kept asking others for bids.

“Anyone offering a higher price?”

I glared at him. “I said I’m buying it out. Did you not hear me?”

The men around me grew irritated.

“Do you even have money? Stop pretending!”

“Can you stop pretending? We’re trying to bid here!”

The host sounded annoyed.

“Ms. Jackson, the asset verification shows you’re not qualified to buy it out. If you keep causing trouble, we’ll have to ask you to leave.”

I picked up a tissue and calmly wiped the cold sweat from my hand.

“Who said I’m out of money? The Jackson Group hasn’t declared bankruptcy yet.”

Hearing that, Matthew gave me a brief glance.

The host replied, “We included your Jackson Group shares during the pre-verification. Even without a formal bankruptcy announcement, the remaining assets are far from enough to buy things out.”

“I request to reverify,” I interrupted him.

People looked at each other in confusion.

I stepped up onto the stage and took the microphone. “What? Are you afraid?”

The host looked at Matthew.

Matthew gave the faintest nod.

“We’ll reverify, then.”

The big screen switched to my account information.

The people in the venue whispered.

“Look at how confident she is. Could the Jackson Group actually have been revived?”

“Impossible. In Astrid City, if the Fuller Group wants to destroy someone, they could do so at ease. With a plot of land so expensive rendered unusable, the Jackson Group is doomed.”

“She must be completely unhinged after what her husband’s done to her. Anyone would go crazy.”

The verification ended.

Everyone stared at the screen.

My balance showed only 25 cents.

The room erupted in thunderous laughter.

“She has really gone mad. We can grab a random person off the street and they would have more savings than she does!”

Tiara, sitting in Matthew’s arms, had tears in her eyes from laughing so hard.

“Raquel, it’s embarrassing to pretend to be rich. It wouldn’t hurt you to beg us to help you buy it out, would it?”

The host added, “Ms. Jackson, your assets clearly aren’t enough. Please stop causing trouble.”

I looked calmly at the account screen on the phone.

“Verify it again.”

The host shoved his hand impatiently.

“Ms. Jackson, this is an auction, not your private estate. Stop being unreasonable and leave…”

But before he could finish, the numbers on the screen changed, the image that had shown only twenty-five cents began to skyrocket, digit after digit flashing so fast they blurred.

The entire hall fell silent.

Matthew and Tiara jumped to their feet.

Everyone stared at the big screen, stunned.

“H-how is this possible?”

Back then, my mother used her family’s resources to turn that “gold-digger husband” of hers into the richest man in Astrid City.Naturally, I could take all of it back. Most of our family’s businesses were overseas anyway. After resolving all of the remaining problems in the country, finalizing the divorce and recovering all of my mother’s marital assets, I prepared to move abroad and live with my grandfather. The next time I heard about Matthew was through the news. The once-up-and-coming Fuller Group in Astrid City had collapsed completely in less than a year. The cause was that the rich heirs who attended that auction were investigated by the police for group misconduct, harming minors, drug involvement and other crimes. Many successors of major corporations ended up in jail. And the hatred ran deep. After all, the person who took their sons to that “art auction” was Matthew. One small company could not destroy the Fuller Group, but dozens or hundreds of companies together?

Moments later, footage flashed across the giant screen. It was Tiara and the CEO of our rival company meeting in a hotel. Not just once. Not with just one man.She sometimes went with multiple men multiple times. The scenes were obscene. Her innocent persona collapsed instantly.Matthew stared at her in disbelief.“Why were you meeting with them?“So… you’re the one who leaked our company secrets?”Tiara did not dare meet his eyes. She stammered, “Matthew, she is just trying to destroy what we have. Please… don’t believe her.”However, Matthew had survived too many battles in the business world. He knew she was lying.I signaled the guards to release him.He sank to the floor, drained. He looked at me with a complicated expression like he wanted to say something, but no words came out.“That’s all about it. The two of you can wait for the court summons.”“Oh, and to everyone who attended this auction. Your recordings of exploiting underage girls and organizing group debau

“Stop pretending to be the good one.” He glared at me. “I married you because I thought you were the one quietly supporting me…”“But now I know exactly who that person really was.”“Not only did you steal Tiara’s credit, you even leaked our company’s design drafts to a competitor. I gave you the dignity a wife deserves and you repaid me by cutting off every path I had. As such, sorry… letting the Jackson Group perish was my only choice.”I frowned in confusion. I had no memory of anything he just accused me of.The next second, I turned toward Tiara.Panic flickered in her eyes. She quickly tried to shut down the topic.“Raquel, I know you’re angry, but you can’t sell your body and hire thugs to torment us like this…“How about this? Let go of him, and we will try to help you pay whatever you borrowed.“After all, the Jackson family is already bankrupt…”I sneered and grabbed the host’s microphone, letting my voice fill the hall.“Tiara, you are just the daughter of a mistre

Slap! The crisp sound echoed throughout the entire exhibition hall.Matthew’s head tilted to the side, his cheek instantly swelling red. He stared at me with a cold, murderous gaze.Everyone held their breath.I said calmly, “When the hell did I sell myself?”Before anyone could respond, I struck him again across the other side of his face.“You created paintings that violated my privacy and sold them?”Another slap landed.“You secretly filmed intimate videos of me, spread them around and thought I’d quietly buy them up one by one, didn’t you?”I raised my hand again. But this time, the slap didn’t land on the scumbag.Tiara suddenly lunged forward, gritting her teeth.“Raquel! Don’t!”She had moved into my sight, but I didn’t feel like stopping. My palm landed across her face. Her pale, delicate features immediately swelled, turning red.Her eyes flickered, and she let her body go limp, collapsing backward dramatically, as if I had tortured her half to death.Matthew’

On the big screen, the balance that had shown twenty-five cents suddenly leapt from single digits to four digits, from four digits to nine — the total assets skyrocketing at a crazy pace. Finally, the number settled in the hundreds of billions. The man beside me pointed at the screen, stunned.“Impossible! Even if the Jackson Group weren’t bankrupt, it could never be worth that much!”“What the hell is going on? Is this some sort of hacker prank?”“It has to be… Among everyone in Astrid City, even Mr. Fuller’s assets don’t reach hundreds of billions, let alone someone like Raquel Jackson.”The host’s expression froze.Even the security guards who had approached to throw me out stopped blankly.I leisurely glanced around the room.“Sorry, due to the size of my transfer request, the amount took some time to credit to my account. Now that it’s here, I’ll use a tenth of my personal assets to play this game with all of you.”“With this amount, I’m qualified to buy out every bid, a
