Chapter 24: My Fault
A hundred whips and my skin feels torn, but not my determination to love Max. I see mom, step into the dungeon, as she bends on her knees letting the straps on my arms lose.
“A princess listens, they don't rebel”, she says. Her voice is laced with venom.
“That beggar won't give you anything except pleasure, but to live a life like a queen you need to marry a king. You can keep him as your concubine, someone you can fuck, but not your life partner.”, her eyes are calm as she says this.

I throw the curtains of the healer's chambers open to let the fresh airflow in the room. Replacing the tables with blooming- jasmines dipped in night fairy concoctions to accentuate their smells, I place them all over the room to overpower the scent of the ointment that fills the room. Lycan’s eyes linger on mine as Max dresses the wounds on my side. I could feel the jealousy oozing through her orbs, as she tries to maintain the smile. I shouldn’t let her feel like that, especially now that I know they both like each other. When I came into consciousness and saw them making out, I did feel bad, but Lycan saved my life, and I should at least make sure she doesn't feel bad because of me. The bushes along the palace walls rustle the black silhouette in them, crawling on its knees. The cat eyes scan through the palace grounds, keeping a close look on the Queen, and her now concubine. The silhouette shuffles, the rustle blending with the wind, as the person climbs towards the west wing of the palace. The west wing is full of secrets. Dirty secrets from the royals, and their ancestors. The same black silhouette makes its way down through the grey, brown walls walking to the room at the farthest right corner. Wood creeks open, the moon casting its silver over the person sitting in the middle. I lie on the bed draped in a transparent white gown that leaves very little to the imagination. The sweetheart neckline cuts low popping almost half of my breast out, as the thigh-high cuts on both ends fall away from my legs. I prop on my elbows twisting my body in a slow sensual turn, lying on my stomach. My cheeks rest on the linen sheet, the slight red tint on them transferring to the sheets. I run my lips on my bottom lip, curling them in my mouth to leave a shiny layer of moisture, as my eyes follow Max around the room. Max was not joking about the concubine rules. I checked the files we signed, and the rule was overtly mentioned in one of the hundred pages that were placed to protect the rights of the concubines and to make sure they deserve a proper status from every person in the kingdom. I frown at the papers in my hand, as the statement of the rule taunts me. But what affects me the most is the cunning smile of Max standing beside me as he peeks through the writings. I squint my eyes, elbowing him in the stomach, as he groans with pain attracting the attention of both Lycan and Azrael sitting on the opposite side of the room. I roll my eyes at the setup or the game that fate likes to play with me. When I thought everything will be going all right between me and Max, now that I have confessed - we are determined to fall in love with each other all over again. I don't regret it.
