Ava’s POV

The night air was cool as Logan and I walked side by side, the quiet sounds of the city enveloping around us. My fingers curled around the plush wolf he’d tried so hard to win, and I couldn’t help but smile.

“So, what’s next?” Logan asked, tossing the last of his fries into his mouth.

I raised an eyebrow. “Next? It’s almost midnight, Carter.”

“And?” He smirked. “Scared to stay out late?”

I rolled my eyes. “I have work tomorrow, unlike you.”

Logan placed a hand over his heart, feigning offense. “Are you calling me unemployed?”

I gave him a pointed look. “You literally don’t have a job.”

“Technically, I do.” He grinned. “I play football. That’s a job.”

“Football isn’t a job, it’s a sport,” I shot back.

“A sport I get paid for,” he countered.

I groaned. “You get scholarship money for it. That’s different.”

Logan shrugged. “Details, details.”

I shook my head, but I was smiling. Being around him was easy, even when we were arguing.

We walked a little longer until we reached a sma

  • Against the rules    Heart heavier than ever

Logan’s POVShe heard me.Those three words hit harder than any punch I’d taken on the field. Harder than any lecture, harder than any breakup. Because it wasn’t just anyone who heard me say it.It was Ava. The girl who considered me her whole world. She stood there, her eyes wide ,Chest heaving,Her lips parting like she was trying to speak but nothing came out. The look in her eyes wasn’t just hurt. It was betrayal. Shattered hope. Like I’d taken everything she believed in and set it on fire. And I did.God, I did.The second she turned and ran, my brain short-circuited.“AVA!”But she didn’t stop. Her shoes clicked against the floor, echoing down the hallway, fading with every desperate beat of my heart.I lunged forward without thinking, shoving Aaron aside.“What the hell did you say that for?” I growled.Aaron raised his hands up mocking surrendering. “What did I say?? The question is what did you do to her Logan!”It was true . it wasn’t just Aaron. It was me.The words came fr

  • Against the rules    The boy who promised me the world

~Ava's pov~Something was off.Logan’s hand was warm in mine as we sat on the bench, his thumb was repeatedly brushing over my knuckles like he needed the contact to keep steady. But I could feel there was something bothering him. The weight in his silence. The way his eyes flicked too quickly when Aaron passed by.It wasn’t the first time I’d noticed it.Whenever Aaron was around, Logan changed. Not in an obvious way. It wasn’t like he growled or stormed off. No, it was more subtle like his jaw tightened, his shoulders stiffened, and sometimes, he looked at me like he was waiting for something to fall apart. And that made me nervous. What if it's something bad? What if it tears us apart?“So,” I said casually, as we walked toward my class building. “You and Aaron… everything good?”Logan didn’t even look at me. “Yeah. Why?”“You just seem tense around him. Every time he’s near me, you act like you're ready to fight.”He exhaled sharply. “It’s just football stuff. Competitive crap.

  • Against the rules    The Lie Between Us

~Logan’s POV ~The bass in the club thumped so loud I could feel it in my chest.Flashing lights, grinding bodies, and the sharp smell of spilled drinks . Tristan was halfway through his second beer, and Miles was already flirting with a girl in red. Me? I was nursing the same drink I’d been holding for the last hour, mind elsewhere.Ava’s face wouldn’t leave my head. The way she laughed when she teased me. The way her eyes sparkled when she got fired up about law stuff. The way her voice dropped when she was tired, soft and raw and real. And the way Nate looked at her like he already knew he was falling.God, it made my blood boil.“You’re doing that brooding thing again,” Tristan said, sliding into the booth beside me.“Shut up.”“Seriously,” he said, nudging my arm. “You look like someone just kicked your puppy.”I didn’t answer. Miles dropped into the seat across from us, flanked by two girls who disappeared when he saw my face.“What’s with you, man?” Miles asked. “You win the ga

  • Against the rules    Tick Tock Logan

I had just finished my history class and was heading toward the café when I spotted Charlotte waving frantically.“AVA!” she shouted, practically dragging her boyfriend Tristan by the arm.I smiled and jogged up. “What, is there a fire or just another TikTok recipe you want to try?”“Neither. Look who I found loitering like a lost golden retriever!” she said, grinning as Nate came into view behind her, wearing a hoodie and carrying a smoothie.“Hey,” Nate said, offering me that same warm smile that always made my stomach flip. “Fancy seeing you here, Professor Scary.”Charlotte raised an eyebrow. “Professor what?”“It’s a diner thing,” I muttered.Nate chuckled. “She trained me. Survived my fork-tray fiasco.”“She texted me about it,” Charlotte said, giving me a mischievous look. “Along with the dimple emoji.”I narrowed my eyes. “Charlotte.”“What? I just find it interesting,” she said, casually looping her arm around Tristan’s waist. “That Fork Boy here clearly likes you.”Nate cho

  • Against the rules    Not Exactly a Romeo

~Ava’s pov~Today was a bit boring. No Charlotte in sight as she was busy with Tristan. No Logan and I miss him alot Even though he's coming back today, I couldn't help myself from being lonely. The diner felt too quiet without the lunch chaos, and I was just finishing up a refill run when I heard the bell above the door jingle.I turned, expecting a customer and froze.Logan.Tall, broad, in his usual Titans hoodie and backward cap, looking like he hadn’t just spent the last two days tackling people in another town. His hazel eyes locked on mine the second he spotted me.And just like that, I forgot how to hold a soda pitcher properly.Sometimes I wonder, why does he have that hold on me? Sometimes I completely forget everything around me as my eyes locked with him.“You’re back early,” I said excitedly,my heart skipping. He shrugged like it was no big deal. “Coach cut us loose after the game. Thought I’d surprise you.”“You did,” I said, setting the pitcher down before I dropped it.

  • Against the rules    The New Guy

~Ava’s pov~ When I arrived at the diner it was already buzzing with so many people when I tied my apron and stepped behind the counter. The scent of coffee and grease welcomed me like an old friend, and the clatter of plates and cups was oddly comforting. It was a place I was already used to.Logan and Tristan had left early that morning for an out-of-town practice match. The group chat had been blowing up with dumb pictures and bad jokes, and I missed Logan more than I wanted to admit for it being less than twelve hours. Ridiculous. It was just for one day, and I already missed him like crazy.“Ava!” Debra called from the kitchen window, her curly hair tucked under a cap. “I need you to train the new guy. He starts today.”I blinked. “There’s a new guy?”She shoved a name tag toward me. “Nate. Tall. Blonde. Don’t let him drop the soup. He seems clumsy for his own good”.I stifled a laugh and took the tag, pinning it to my apron just as the bell over the door jingled. And there he

  • Against the rules    Owns my heart

~Ava pov~If someone in the past had told me that I’d be going to the mall like a normal girl with a boyfriend who treated me like I hung the moon I would’ve laughed until I cried. But here I was. Saturday afternoon. Wearing real jeans. Not Logan’s shirt. And for once, my mascara wasn’t waterproof because I wasn’t expecting to cry today. How life changes.“You need new shoes,” Charlotte declared, arms crossed as we stood outside one of those fancy stores with mannequins. I blinked. “I have shoes.”She gave me a long, questioning look.“You have Logan’s slides and four pair of combat boots that look like they fought in two wars.”“…Excuse you! It's fashion”“They’re tragic.”I sighed. “Fine. But I’m not spending more than…”“Girl, hush. Tristan’s paying.”I stared at her. “What? Why would he pay for me?”She grinned, wicked and proud. “ Okay it was Logan, that said that.It was his idea. ‘Get Ava some proper shoes so she doesn’t show up to your birthday dinner looking like an ancient

  • Against the rules    "You're Enough"

~Ava's pov~I stared at the man in front of me, my hand still clutching the doorknob like it was the only thing keeping me standing. The silence between us stretched thin. His eyes raked over me judgmental, cold, furious.I shrank back instinctively, pulling Logan’s shirt tighter around me.“Real classy, Ava,” my father sneered, his voice dripping with disdain. “Throwing yourself at the first guy with a bed.”My stomach twisted painfully. Before I could utter a reply, heavy footsteps approached behind me.Logan.“Who the hell are you?” Logan’s voice was sharp, edged with protectiveness. He moved beside me, wrapping a strong arm around my waist without hesitation, pulling me slightly behind him.My father’s lip curled into a sneer.“And who the hell are you?” he shot back. “Another loser she’s using to pay her bills?”The words hit harder than I wanted to admit.I flinched, shame flooding through me.I couldn't even believe if this was my father talking before me.Logan stiffened, hi

  • Against the rules    Someone I haven't seen in years

~Ava’s POV~I wish I could’ve stayed like that forever. Wrapped up in Logan’s arms, feeling the steady rhythm of his heart against my ear, his hand lazily drawing circles on my back.It was easy to forget the rest of the world existed when I was with him.I smiled against his bare chest, feeling a strange kind of peace settle over me the kind I hadn’t felt in years. My phone buzzed somewhere on the nightstand, vibrating against the table.I groaned, not wanting to move, but Logan chuckled and gave me a playful smack on the hip."Better get that, baby," he said, his voice thick with sleep.I stretched, feeling deliciously sore, and reached over to grab it.Charlotte’s name flashed across the screen.I frowned. Why was she calling so early?Sliding off the bed ignoring Logan’s mocking whine as I stole his warmth I padded across the room. I was dressed in nothing but a pair of Logan’s loose basketball shorts and his t-shirt, which hung almost indecently off one shoulder. My neck tingle
