Merry Sleepover

CHAPTER FORTY-NINE

Alexa’s POV

"What do you mean you've got a job? "

I pressed my phone closer to my ear, waved goodbye to Janice and Simon as I clocked out for my break. Stacey’s timing was freakishly perfect—like a sixth sense that told her when I had five minutes to breathe. Thankfully, it always worked for me.

“Hey, girl,” I answered, balancing the phone between my cheek and shoulder while slipping behind the small break room counter.

“Okay, what is this I hear about you working?” Stacey’s voice came through sharp and amused. “Did aliens replace you with a responsible clone? Because I swear the Alexa I know still lives off iced coffee and spontaneous chaos.”

I rolled my eyes, laughing. “First of all, rude. Second, I am perfectly capable of being employed. And third… yes, I’m at work. Like, real work.”

“No way. You’re serious?”

“Dead serious. I’ve got a schedule, a uniform. Well, sort of, and a boss who expects me to not be late. But she's exceptionally nice. I rea

Meeting FamilyCHAPTER FIFTYDevon’s POVIt had only been a few days since I told Alexa how I felt about her, and our relationship had shifted after that. It was deeper, more natural and real.. She wasn't just my girlfriend now. She was... mine. And I felt it with every look, every touch, every silence that didn’t need filling.I craved her more, and now that I was much more certain about my feelings, I realized that I wanted to cherish her. Act on the words that I had said. Tell her in more ways than one that I wanted her to belong completely to me. I wanted to show more of myself to her. On a deeper and personal level. I wanted to belong to her as well. That’s why I planned the date.Something quiet. Intimate. Private. Just us. No parties. No distractions. I picked the little bistro on the edge of town, the one with hanging fairy lights and an outdoor patio that smelled like citrus and fresh bread. When I pulled up to her house, she was already waiting outside, wrapped in a sage-g

Parties and Love confessionsCHAPTER FORTY-EIGHTAlexa's POVThe party was already in full swing by the time we arrived. There was laughter in the air, music pulsing, lights twinkling across the lawn. The lake shimmered just beyond the fence, catching the glow from the hanging lanterns. Finals were finally over, and if there was ever a night meant to be celebrated, it was this one.The backyard buzzed with energy, as some of our classmates danced to music while others ate and drunk. Games were played, and the lake was filled with kids swimming in it. Overall, everyone looked like they were having a good time.String lights cast a golden hue over everyone’s faces, and the lakehouse Kai had found was practically glowing, and most definitely a place to have fun after this stressful week. It was distant enough from nosy neighbors and just private enough for a group of teenagers ready to taste their first breath of post-finals freedom.I stood close to the edge of the crowd with Stacey,

Bike rides and MemoriesCHAPTER FORTY-SEVENKai's POVThirty minutes. That's how long my thumb had hesitated over my phone screen just before I could hit send. Not forgetting that I had stared at her contact name for a solid ten minutes before giving in and typing that the message. But it had also taken an extra ten minutes of rewriting and deleting this message. Finally, I decided on something. "Hey. There’s a new bike racing station just opened outside town. Thought maybe… you’d want to check it out? Just us. Have a fun bike ride just like the old times. "The moment the message was sent, I regretted it. Not because I didn’t want to see her, which would obviously never happened. I wanted to see her, I wasn’t sure she wanted to see me. Not really. Two years of silence had sprouted from my foolish mistakes and now the both of had grown apart, the two different people and I wasn't sure if I would even be completely successful in rekindling our relationship. I doubt it would return

A Rough Wake-Up CallCHAPTER FORTY-SIXAlexa’s POVThe sun was barely peeking through the blinds when I stirred awake, warm and tucked beneath my blanket. For a second, I didn’t think anything was off. And then, just suddenly, the awareness came rushing back to me. The weight of on arm over me. The hard but comfortable surface where my cheek rested, and the steady breath brushing the back of my neck.Devon.My eyes popped open. His arm was around my waist, his face nestled close into my shoulder. Memories from the night rushed back, movie marathon, our intense make out sensation( I blushed a little at that memory), and then agreeing to stop things before they went too far. We’d fallen asleep. In my bed. Nestled under the covers. I bolted upright, eliciting a mumble from Devon. He, however, didn't rouse from his sleep, but instead, nestled more into the blankets, and then made a move to pull me back into bed. I shook him awake, and when he caught sight of me and then took in sight o

Unplanned Sleep over CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE Alexa’s POV It was just past midnight when I heard something outside. At first, I thought I imagined it. I’d been curled up in bed for over an hour, scrolling aimlessly through my phone, pretending to be sleepy but wide awake with thoughts I couldn’t quite turn off. Just after I had relaxed, my phone rang, startling me from how loud and unexpected it was. I almost cursed out in the middle of the night. After seeing the caller ID, my anger immediately dissolved and it's was immediately replaced with a smile. "Hey." "Hey. Do you mind opening your window?" I furrowed my brows. "Why? ' " Because I'm outside. " Huh? I tiptoed to the window, heart fluttering, and pulled the curtain aside. I peeked outside, and sure, there he was. Devon stood there in his hoodie, hair slightly messy from the wind, a crooked grin lighting up his face even in the dark. As soon as he caught sight of me, he spoke into his phone, even though I could perfec
