The Arena roared before I even stepped onto the sand.
Another fight had just ended— two bodies separating, one dragged and one standing. And above it all, the King’s voice rang on cue.
Deep and commanding.
“Here is your victor.” He announced and the crowd roared, sounding unreal as usual.
Meanwhile, the Blood Gate opened to me— for the second time ever for which I poured out a calming breath.
I stepped onto the red sand, and this time, I didn’t look around. I didn't admire the structure. Didn’t listen to the crowd.
None of it mattered.
Selene stepped onto the sand opposite me, her movements loose and confident, revealing her familiarity with the system.
This wasn’t her first rodeo and the crowd swelled at that, hungry. I ignored all of that as I rolled my shoulders once with ready claws.
This time, I’ll break the nose…
“Begin.”
The Arena Master’s voice cut through the noise… and that was it.
Selene moved first, slow at first. Then she exploded.
Her body surged forward with terrifying precision, her shoulder slamming straight into my ribs before I could fully brace. The impact cracked through me, knocking the air clean out of my lungs and stealing my balance.
I hit the sand hard and the impact was the kind that rattles your bones and makes your teeth click together.
I barely had time to inhale before she was already on me for which her claws came down in a vicious arc aimed for my face.
I jerked my head sideways.
Too slow.
They carved across my cheek, not deep enough to blind, but enough to split skin open and burn like hell. Blood followed instantly, fast, but I managed to shove her off and roll away.
“Surrender now, fingerling and I might consider not ending you here,” She said as she rose to her feet.
My response?
I lunged and missed but retaliated with my knee to her stomach with enough force to make her grunt.
It didn’t drop her, still it shifted her weight just enough.
And enough was all I needed.
I clawed hard against her right leg, sending her down while I shifted to the side to be able to—
Too late.
She was already steady, and her fist drove straight into my jaw, clean, after which the world snapped sideways.
I staggered, my vision blurring, but she followed without hesitation— her fist crashed down into my collarbone, and then her knee drove into my ribs again, right where I had been hit before.
Something in my side gave a sharp, sick sting while the lovely crowd roared, enjoying every second of it.
“You really thought someone like you could own a male all to yourself?” Selene said, stepping in again.
“They are thirsty social species and are for public satisfaction as they choose. So you’re dumb if you think you can claim one, especially without a womb!” She voiced.
I wiped blood from my mouth with the back of my hand. “Talk less so you’ll sound less stupid” I said.
She snarled. Then she came again.
This time I saw it.
Her weight shifted slightly to the left before every strike and her shoulder dipped just enough to telegraph her power side.
It was not obvious, but I noticed it.
She swung… and her fist grazed my cheek instead of breaking it. I drove forward before she could recover, slamming my forehead into hers with a brutal crack.
The impact echoed and we both felt it but then I grabbed her.
No time for tears.
My fingers tangled in her hair and I yanked her downward, dragging her face-first into the sand.
I slammed it and the sound was not really satisfying so I did it a couple of times until I felt her teeth hit grit.
The crowd surged louder now but Selene retaliated stubbornly, her claws raking across my side as she swiveled. My skin stung at once, a hot, tearing sensation ripping across my sides.
Blood soaked into the sand beneath us.
Mine.
Fuck.
Before I could counter, she twisted under me with force, her body rolling sharply as her leg hooked behind mine and flipped me off balance.
Shit.
I hit the ground again, and before I could recover, her foot slammed into my groin.
Air vanished. Useful air.
And then my body folded in on itself as she grabbed my shoulder and drove me back into the sand.
Her fist came down once. And then more, each hit sharp and measured to break, not waste.
“You’ve lost him to me,” she snarled now.
Another punch.
“And now, you’re losing this.”
Another.
“Because I’m going to end you now.”
Another.
“And still suck his cock after. ‘Cause that’s what happens when the weak and pathetic forget their fucking place!”
My vision blurred, my ribs screamed and my body wanted to stay down.
But I didn’t.
Her next strike came down… and I caught it.
I wasn’t planning on losing another fight and definitely not to a whore so my hand locked around her wrist now, stopping it inches from my face. With this, her eyes flickered; surprise. But I didn’t focus on that.
Instead, I snapped her wrist bone to the left for which she let out a painfilled scream. But then I wasn’t done…
I pulled on her so that she stumbled forward while I roughly drove my knee upward, slamming it into her face with a grunt. The hit landed hard and I felt something shift under impact.
I broke her nose… but I still wasn’t satisfied as I rolled, dragging her with me.
This reversed our positions after which my hand caught her jaw and I slammed her head sideways into the sand before dumping three properly measured fists on her.
The crowd was screaming now.
In retaliation, she clawed at my arm, digging into my flesh as she tried to pry me off. But I didn’t mind the pain.
I thrived in it as I now pressed down on her face and this led to me bleeding as she dug her claws deeper. I still didn’t stop.
I didn’t stop until I heard a CRACK.
With this, Selene’s hands instantly left me and flew to her face as she started to yell.
Once again, she was screaming in pain, only that this time, it came out distorted and she had genuine fear in her eyes.
Why?
Because I had shifted her lower jaw to the complete left, misaligning it.
I rose up to my feet now as she lay there screaming in her bloody mess. I wiped my bloodied hands on my rag skirt.
How do you such cock with a broken jaw?
Answer: You can’t.
The crowd erupted in cheers now, my victory incoming— but also something else…
{Liam’s POV}Loud voices guided me toward the western battlements long before I reached them. The Palace had abandoned every trace of its usual composure. Generals crossed courtyards at a run, shouting fresh orders before disappearing into different formations. Stable hands struggled to calm restless warhorses while servants hurried frightened citizens away from the outer walls. Everywhere I looked, discipline fought a losing battle against urgency.Beyond the gates, thousands of warriors were already assembling.Rows upon rows of armored males stretched across the Palace grounds as standards bearing the crest of the Reigns snapped violently in the afternoon wind. Generals rode along the formations issuing final instructions while captains adjusted ranks with clipped, impatient commands. Brutality flashed beneath the sun as countless claws extended and retracted in restless anticipation. The army was enormous. It should have been reassuring.Instead, the mood surrounding it bordered o
{Liam’s POV}My Father needed the truth.Whether he accepted it… That was his business.Mine was making sure Mother remained alive.I left him standing inside the council chamber with enough revelations to dismantle a lifetime of certainty and quietly closed the door behind me. Whatever conclusions he reached from there would belong to him. I had given him every piece required to understand what stood outside these walls, why Sir Hagari had betrayed him, and why the prophecy everyone believed had ended decades ago had, in reality, merely waited. The rest was no longer my responsibility.Unfortunately, I had acquired another.I crossed the Palace at an unhurried pace, though the building itself seemed incapable of remaining still. Messengers hurried through corridors carrying sealed reports beneath their arms, servants disappeared around corners with expressions that suggested they knew very little and feared considerably more, while guards moved in organized formations toward the oute
{Ragna's POV}I was staring at Milena now and I wasn’t sure I had exactly heard well.In fact, I seriously doubted that I had heard well, so I kept staring intensely, waiting for her to expatiate, while dropping another prompt.“What?” I said and then she smiled.“I’m just messing with you.” She said and then laughed. “Look at the seriousness on your face!” Her finger arrowed at me as she continued laughing.I shook my head then at her silliness and hated that I fell for it. But then there was something with how she said it. Still, it was my fault for falling for it. “You’re unserious.” I muttered now.“I know.” She responded and then shifted closer to me like she had been pulled. “But the Prince is really gorgeous, Ragna!”I looked at her.“Nah.”“Come on. I personally think he’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. He looks like freaking god! Did you see his build?”I sighed. “Now you’re just being weird.” I said and Milena stared at me as though she genuinely expected me to re
{Ragna’s POV}The dungeon somehow felt emptier after Liam left. Not quieter. That would have been impossible.Somewhere beyond our cell, a prisoner was loudly insisting that he had been wrongly imprisoned for the fifteenth time since I’d arrived. Iron doors continued opening and slamming shut at uneven intervals while guards barked orders through the corridors, and every now and then another voice joined the endless chorus of complaints echoing beneath the Palace. The noise hadn’t changed. We had.The conversation Liam left behind still sat inside the cell with us, heavy enough that neither Milena nor I seemed particularly eager to disturb it.Your chances of escaping persecution this time are worse than zero…It was an unpleasant sentence. Not because it frightened me. But because I believed him.Liam wasn’t the sort of person who dressed ugly truths in prettier words. If anything, he seemed determined to strip away whatever hope people managed to invent for themselves. It was an irr
{Liam’s POV}The heavy door closed behind us, muting the arguments from the council chamber until they became nothing more than distant echoes swallowed by stone. For a few moments, my father simply stood there with his back against the door, breathing as though he had walked far more than a handful of corridors. His eyes swept across the chamber once, reassuring himself that we were truly alone before finally settling on me again.“Now,” he said quietly, “tell me why we’re speaking about this.”I regarded him for a moment before answering.“Because it determines everything I’ve told you so far.”A crease appeared between his brows.“I don’t understand.”“I know.”I folded my hands behind my back and leaned lightly against one of the stone pillars lining the chamber.“Which is why I’d like to make a proposal before I continue.”His expression shifted.“A proposal?”“A deal.”Silence settled between us.Then he exhaled slowly.“…What deal?”I studied him for a moment before answering.
{Liam’s POV}My father didn’t speak. For perhaps five full seconds, he simply stood there staring at me, and I allowed the silence to remain exactly as it was. There was no point filling it. Some truths demanded room after they were spoken, and this was one of them.Eventually, he laughed. Not because he found anything amusing.Because disbelief often disguised itself as laughter before surrendering to reality.“…What?”His brows pulled together as though the word itself had refused to cooperate.“What do you mean Sir Hagari is the culprit female’s father?”His eyes searched mine, looking for the smallest sign that I had decided to entertain myself at his expense.“That isn’t possible.”He shook his head almost immediately.“No. Hagari has served beside me for years. He has been one of the most loyal men in this Kingdom.”His voice grew firmer as he continued, convincing himself more than he was convincing me.“He cannot betray me.”I waited until he finished.“It’s the truth,” I said
{Ragna's POV}I was panting. I was panting really heavily but I didn’t seem to know why. But then that wasn’t my focus. Voices pooled all around me and the ground seemed to be trembling, but none of that was my concern. My mother was, so I threw my gaze to her. I hadn’t realized yet…I rushed
{Ragna's POV}Okay, so I was standing in the red sand, surrounded by thousands of people who definitely hated— not that I cared, and then I had a six-foot-three beast storming at me. The Arena master was huge in his werewolf form, and, in my stance, I couldn’t tell if my heart was beating out of r
{Ragna’s POV}The crowd’s noise multiplied in response to me dislocating Selene’s jaw.She didn’t rise immediately now so they started the countdown. “ONE.”“TWO…”"THREE."It was supposed to be a relief hearing the countdown, but I wasn’t satisfied or convinced— not until Selene started convulsing
{Ragna’s POV}For a moment, I thought about stepping inside. Not to shout. Not to cry. Not even to ask questions.Just… to stand there and let them see me. Let him see what he’d chosen… and let her see what she’d taken. She had mentioned earlier that she had seen me with my lowbond; Darian, outside
