Ivan pushed open the door to the VIP hospital room.

Helen immediately leaned back against her bed, pretending to be frail.

"Ivan... you're here. I've been feeling dizzy all day," she complained.

Ivan sat beside her, his expression cold.

"It was you, wasn't it? The low-boiling-point liquid we used to fake the water... I was the one who bought it and kept it in the villa basement. We used to meet there in secret. Only you and I had the keys."

Helen gave him a wounded look and asked, "Ivan,

I was the one who bought it and kept it in the villa basement. We used to meet there in secret. Only you and I had the keys." Helen gave him a wounded look and asked, "Ivan, why are you being so harsh? What happened to Nina was an accident. I never meant for any of that to happen." Ivan's gaze suddenly softened. "Helen, I know you did it for us... for our future. I understand. I came here today because your parents have already found the evidence. Tell me everything, and I'll think of a way to help cover for you. I can accept everything about you. Don't you trust me?" Helen immediately threw her arms around him and said, "Ivan, of course, I trust you! Everythi

Three days later, at a morgue in Aloria, the nearest country to the island, the forensic pathologist pulled back the white sheet. It was the first time even he had seen a body in such a state. Yet after years of handling difficult cases, he remained composed and began the examination without hesitation. John had already seen my body before the autopsy. But even after preparing himself for the worst, he still had to clench his fists to keep from passing out when the sheet was lifted. Ivan stared at my body, his eyes red and bloodshot. Tears rolled down his face and fell silently to the floor. For the past three days, he had not slept at all. Every time he closed his eyes, my face would appear in his mind, leaving him sobbing uncontrollably. Off to the side, an assistant held up a digital tablet with my parents on the video call. Despite being hospitalized and hooked up to IV fluids after the devastating shock, they had insisted on hearing the autopsy findings via a video call.

John's eyes widened in shock. "What do you mean by that? What do you mean Nina isn't going to make it?" The wild man swallowed hard and stammered, "M-Ms. Nina… cut the rope and fell into that pot..." His voice shook as he desperately tried to explain himself, terrified that they would hold him responsible for killing me. "The pot was too heavy for me to move. I tried to find something to put out the fire, but there was nothing in the forest I could use. I had no choice but to keep searching until I finally found you…" Ivan let out a breath of relief and spread his hands dismissively."I thought it was something worse. You're so dramatic. That liquid was designed to boil at a certain temperature. It may look like it's bubbling, but it's only around 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Falling in there is basically no different from taking a hot bath." Ivan rubbed his forehead, clearly irritated. "How could you just rush over here like that? What if Nina figured out what was going on?

My skin instantly broke out in blisters. Pain surged through my entire body, and my screams pierced the sky.On the beach, John and Ivan, who were waiting for the boat, immediately turned toward the forest.John remarked, "Did Nina really have to scream like that? She's only tied up there.""Helen was hanging there for so long earlier, and she didn't make a single sound," Ivan remarked. Before they could dwell on it, my parents arrived in a dune buggy, carrying bouquets.John hurried over and asked, "Nina was screaming just now. Dad, Mom, did you see what happened to her on the cameras?"My parents looked completely unconcerned."As soon as you left with Helen, we rushed straight over. We didn't have time to check the cameras," Dad said.Mom shrugged. "Don't worry. The actor you hired is keeping an eye on her. What could possibly happen?"Hearing that, John was relieved. The moment my parents got out of the buggy, they pulled Helen into a tight embrace."Your sister passed y

Before Helen could say anything else, John pushed her away."Helen." His voice turned serious. "Back off. Give Nina some space so she can breathe."Helen stood up and glared at me with venom in her eyes.Enduring the agonizing pain in my abdomen, I looked at John and said coldly, "Stop acting like you care about me. It makes me sick."John froze at my words.I thought his Favoritism Meter would rise, but to my surprise, it dropped again. "Nina..." His voice was hoarse as he apologized. "I shouldn't have knocked you unconscious. I'm sorry."Ivan gently took my hand and blew air onto it, trying to warm my cold fingers.I sneered, "Ivan, don't touch me. Your fake concern makes me want to throw up."But he ignored me and only tightened his grip on my wrist. His face went pale as he whispered, "How did you become... this thin?"Ivan no longer cared about giving themselves away. He turned anxiously to John and asked, "Didn't you say what we ate every day provided the bare minimum

Helen's face went pale as she screamed. The moment my slap landed, Ivan stopped pretending to limp and rushed over. He shoved me hard, sending me sliding several feet across the sand."Nina, have you lost your mind?" Ivan yelled at me.My back scraped along the sand and gravel. The pain was so intense that I couldn't even speak.Helen covered her face and burst into tears. "I don't want to go home anymore..."John walked over with a grim expression and struck the back of my head. The last thing I saw before I blacked out was the Favoritism Meter above their heads rising sharply.I smiled in satisfaction and lost consciousness.I had no idea how long I'd been out. Through the haze, I heard Ivan's urgent voice."You hit her way too hard! She's completely out cold!"John raised his voice. "You're blaming me? Nina's back is covered in wounds from the gravel!"He let out a heavy sigh. "We really went too far this time. Should we continue with the final test?"Ivan replied, "Mayb
