Chapter 5

It’s been a week since Ms Ravens had been put to rest and as her only heir, i was eligible to succeed her and take over the mafia business with Dellan’s help. However, the man who killed her is still being tortured in the basement by Dellan and the boys. Today will be the day I’ll confront him face to face and probably kill him.

Ms Ravens gave me a new life when I ran away from aunty Luna and this good-for-nothing man decided to take her life away from me. This was the second time I’ve lost someone so dear to me so how on earth was I going to let him go scot free? Definitely over my dead body!

I went to the basement and saw him tied up with his legs facing the ceiling. “Tie him down to a chair” I ordered one of guys. Anyone could see how swollen his body was from the beating he got even though I still don’t understand how he missed the bullet. Fortunate for him, his face still remained untouched.

He was a very attractive man. Hazel brown eyes, light skin, and an ideal physique frame of muscles. Any woman can fall for his type right away.

“What’s your name?” I asked but my question went unanswered.

"So you're the obstinate type, huh? How about I put an end to your waywardness by making you rest in a pool of your own blood?” I took a revolver from my pocket and pointed it at his forehead. It was quite pleasing to watch him quake in terror.

“My name is Tyler! Please don’t kill me! I am sorry!” He begged for mercy.

“How is it that I'm suppose to forgive someone who sought to murder me and then killed my mother instead? You wouldn't do it if you were me, am I right?” I rolled my eyes as I prepared to fire, keeping my gun pointed at his forehead.

I got distracted when turned my focus to Jack and the other two men as they unexpectedly burst into the basement. They had some news for me and I was obliged to listen to whatever details they had before I turned and briefly pinched the bridge of my nose in Tyler’s direction.

“I bet you prayed so hard for God to spare your life today. I have to deal with something urgently but I will come back for you later. As for you guys, please continue treating my guest like you should but leave the killing for me to do.”

I walked up to Ms Ravens office which now is my office and took a sit behind the desk. However, I don’t understand why my heart felt troubled after having a session with Tyler. Was I attracted to him? Or did the universe want him alive? I was taught to show no mercy but my heart kept on failing me somehow.

My thoughts were all over the place that I failed to notice someone else was in my office. When I looked up, Jack was there.

“What took place there earlier? Given everything he did to you and to us, why didn't you kill him right away? Please don't tell me you have feelings for him already. “

"Oh, please! Tell me you're not jealous, or are you? You men intervened just as I was about to kill him”. I debated.

"All right, then how long do you intend to keep him alive? If you continue to delay, he might be the one to kill you before any of your enemies.”

"Leave that to me; I know exactly what I am doing. He won't last long. I only want him to endure pain before he enters hell and meets his maker.” I stated as I was trying to persuade him.

“Okay, I can’t wait to see what you have up on your sleeves but if you don’t kill him, I’ll gladly help you.” Jack chuckled and left the office, shutting the door behind him.

……..

Tyler’s POV

It’s been three days ever since she visited me in the basement and i have been grateful that my life has not been taken away from me yet by the beautiful she-devil.

Carlos forcedfully hired me as an IT specialist because he knew how skilled I am at hacking systems. But once he had what he wanted from me, he intended to send me on a mission and then throw me to the dogs.

Due to his shady business practices, Carlos was a foe of both the law and the majority of the mafias in the industry. He must have sensed he was going to have some company when his cargo arrived and used the opportunity to get me killed but ended up having himself killed.

Unfortunately, I shot the wrong person while trying to flee, and now I am making up for my actions by treating each precious second as if it were my last. Maybe there was a way out, but I had no idea how I was going to do it.

Even when I had to use the restroom, my hands had to be handcuffed. I couldn't even recall the last time I took a bath because of how filthy and bloody my body was, which made me develop a terrible stench not appealing to mankind.

‘Today I have to make my grand escape’ i thought to myself. I walked to the door and knocked loudly alerting the guard outside.

“What do you want this time?” The guard asked me as he frowned.

“I want to use the restroom.” I heard his footsteps as he opened the door and escorted me to the restroom.

The restroom had a window big enough for my body to escape through it. I remembered i had a pin in my front pocket of my jeans which i used to remove the handcuffs off me. Standing on the toilet pan, i managed to have my way through the window and falling to the ground.

The guard must have sensed something was amiss when he rushed inside the bathroom before informing the other guards that I was missing.

Without knowing where I was, I raced as quickly as I could till I found a hiding place in the bushes. When I heard voices approaching my hiding place, I made sure not to move or breathe loudly until everything fell silent once more.

After some time, i emerged from the bushes and recommenced my stroll, but my body was rebelling against me. ‘Just a few more steps and I'll be free.’ That’s all I could encourage myself.

I hastened my feet in order to get to the road as I could hear the sound of cars driving at a distance. When I finally got there, the pain and exhaustion my body was experiencing caused me to pass out.

…………….

Tracy’s POV

I must offer Tyler a round of applause for this because his line of reasoning both infuriated and impressed me. No prisoner has ever attempted to flee this location and I was not going to let him out of my sight this time.

It was complete luck that my men found him laying unconscious on the side of the road whilst they were searching for him.

To help him awaken, one of the guards poured a bucket of icy cold water with plenty of ice cubes upon his body.

“Aaaah!” He awoke, struggling for breath.

"You must be familiar with this place, I'm sure. It appears that you exploited the fact that I was keeping you alive but let us see how you'll walk after I use my knives to cut open your veins.”

I reached for a knife and approached him, gently caressing his face with my dagger. Although he did not speak, I could see that he was pleading for his life through his eyes. Before his bound legs, I knelt down and sliced through the joint of his right knee and his blood instantly started to floor down the ground.

“Please don’t kill me. I’ll do anything you want and I can be of good use to you but please don’t kill me.In fact I have access to all the offshore accounts Carlos had in possession, I can give them to you right now.” Tyler screamed in pain and collapsed again.

“Take him to one of the bedrooms and ask the doctor and maids to attend to him immediately. Also make sure you clean and disinfect this place.” I made an order and left the basement.

The following morning, Tyler woke up with bandages on his wounds.

“Oh you’re awake!” I walked into the bedroom with a tray which had a bowl of porridge in my hands. I pulled out a stool and sat just by the edge of the bed.

“Open you mouth! Don’t worry I can’t kill you by adding poison to your food, I’m not a coward. Please open your mouth.”

He opened his mouth and I fed him until the porridge was done.

“Why are you being kind to me?” He queried.

“Killing you is easy, so I’ll let you live for me and you’re not allowed to die without my permission, understood?”

He responded, "Yes Ma'am," presumably bewildered by my demand.

“I read your profile and you have proven to me otherwise so make sure you don’t make me regret my decision.”

“I swear I won't make you regret your choice, I assure you. Oh! Here is the flash drive has all the information on Carlos's accounts.” He handed me the flash drive after removing it from his pants.

By the way, the restrooms are at the right end of this floor, and the closet has a few outfits.

I gave him instructions before leaving the bedroom.

Although I didn't want to frighten him, I'm confident he can infer from the fuzziness of my words that he really did need to take a bath.

I met Dellan as I walked down the stairs, heading to my office.

"You are exactly the person I was looking for, thanks. What are your intentions for the youngster, given that it appears that you want him to remain alive after he killed Ms. Ravens?

"I have no immediate plans to kill him. Don't you believe his knowledge with computers will be very useful to us? I questioned him as we both walked inside my office.

"We have been handling business just fine even before he came so what makes you think he will be good? Listen Tracy, Ms. Ravens wouldn't have approved of the way you're handling your feelings at this time, you know?!”

“Dellan, I know what I am doing and in case you have forgotten, I am the one in charge now.”

"Ma'am, I fully understand. By the way, a cargo of firearms is arriving tomorrow, but it appears that someone within our company informed the authorities in advance.” Dellan remarked.

“We may deal with the shipment first, and after that, I'll find out who is attempting to defraud us. I currently only have confidence in Jack and you. “

“So, what is your strategy?”

“The shipping company just called me and said the cargo will arrive earlier than expected, so we will use this information to our advantage. I have already hired two tracks under a fake address. We will fill them up with duplicate boxes that will be exchanged with the ones containing the weapons and bring them here using the underground route that leads to the garage.”

Dellan grinned ostentatiously at me. “Oh, that's fantastic news! We won't have to deal with the police tomorrow, thanks to this.”

“Exactly!” My grin got wider.

My mafia business focused on assassinating obnoxious individuals who participated in the black market as well as smuggling ammunition and weapons across South African borders.

All the people who worked under me were aware not to be familiar with the police and each mafia member was expected to uphold the most crucial rule: loyalty, for which there was no room for compromise, breaking it meant death.
