Chapter 10

Author: Little Hedgehog
“Hurry, we don’t have much time! When Benjamin gets back, he’ll notice I’m gone. After today, that wench will never get in our way again.”

Benjamin couldn’t take it anymore.

He stormed in, shouting, “What’s going on here?”

The entire basement was set up like a dark ritual, with red cloths covered in strange symbols hanging from the ceiling. On the floor, my skeletal remains were inscribed with more of those ominous markings, casting eerie shadows under the dim light.

Emma froze. “Benjamin, what are you doing here? I came to get my sister’s soul set free. Her death was so tragic, and I want to do one last thing for her.”

I couldn’t believe Emma was still lying, even now.

Benjamin’s eyes were bloodshot with rage. “Don’t think I didn’t hear you earlier. You’re sick, and you traded Lisa’s life to save your own, haven’t you?”

“There I was wondering how she could end up dead when I had combed through the forest and found no wild animals there. This whole thing… It’s all your doing!”

He rushed forward, reaching out as if to touch me. However, I was nothing more than a spirit now, and he couldn’t touch me. Even so, I took a step back, not wanting to touch any part of him.Benjamin’s eyes darkened with sorrow. “Lisa, please wait for me. I’ll take care of everything here and then look for you. I truly love you. I can’t live without you. I can’t…”His words were empty now. No one would believe him anymore. I scoffed. “Benjamin, what good is saying all this now? You’ve killed me and our child. I’ll never, ever forgive you.”His face turned pale. “I know I was wrong. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”However, I didn’t want to hear any of it. “Benjamin, I didn’t come to listen to your apologies. I came to tell you that my death is connected to Emma. I heard her mention that she wants me never to rest in peace. You need to stop her!”At that moment, the old woman’s face changed, and she quickly began muttering a chant. “This girl speaks the truth. Someone’s using a soul-b

Sleeping in his bed disgusted me, and hearing his apologies made me feel sick. Still, I couldn’t forget what Emma said. I wanted to remind him, but I didn’t know how.Benjamin locked himself in his room for a full day and night, until the housekeeper came to knock on the door.“Mr. Shane, an elderly lady is here. She says she can help you to see the person you want to.”Benjamin gave a bitter smile. “The person I want to see is dead.”Nevertheless, he stood up and went downstairs. I followed behind him and saw the old woman as well. The moment my eyes landed on her, I felt as if she could really see me. I couldn’t explain why, but it felt like she was looking straight through me.Benjamin’s voice was hoarse. “Who are you?”The old woman didn’t even acknowledge Benjamin. She kept her gaze fixed on me, and our eyes met.“Child, you’ve suffered,” she said. Her words were filled with such pity that I felt an overwhelming sense of comfort. It was as if I had finally found a place

Benjamin went to the private investigator’s office, where the screen showed surveillance footage from his family’s mansion.“Mr. Shane, I’ve carefully reviewed your wife’s movements and the comings and goings at the mansion over the past month. It seems that the child is–”Benjamin’s anger flared. “Whose child is it? Tell me.”“It’s yours.” The investigator hesitated, looking uncomfortable. “The surveillance footage from the last six months shows you haven’t been home at all, and when you did come, it was just for a brief stay. But on one particular night two months ago, you stayed home the entire evening. That’s right around the time your wife was pregnant.”Benjamin felt his legs buckle and staggered back. “You’re saying… it’s my child? No, that can’t be!” He checked the date, then called his assistant, only to learn that the date in question was marked as a personal trip. The assistant had dropped him off at a bar and then gone home.Benjamin’s memory started to come back. He

After hanging up the phone, Benjamin dialed another number. “Find out who the man Lisa was having an affair with. For betraying me, neither she nor her lover will get away with it.”I simply watched, indifferent.Once I was dead, everything from my life became irrelevant. Besides, I no longer loved Benjamin, so why would I care if he misunderstood me?Benjamin had hired a private investigator, but after days of searching, they couldn’t find any evidence of my infidelity. The investigator finally called him, confirming I hadn’t been unfaithful.Still, Benjamin refused to believe it. “Then where did that bastard child inside her come from? I’m going to collect every shred of proof of her affair and throw it in her face!”Unfortunately for him, there was no affair to uncover. The private investigator reviewed the security footage from my house and confirmed that I’d been home every day for the past two months, never leaving to meet anyone.Benjamin, convinced that the affair was wit

Benjamin glanced at the stash of wild berries and the bed of straw laid out on the ground, finally relaxing a bit.“I knew that woman wouldn’t die. She’s probably hiding somewhere, watching us search for her.”He turned to look at the thick forest, letting out a cold laugh. “Listen up, Lisa. The moment you show yourself, we’re getting that divorce. Don’t think for a second you can ruin things between me and your sister. If you know what’s good for you, come out and face me. Hiding won’t stop me from divorcing you, so don’t even dream about it.”My body was right here, not far from where they were standing. If they just walked a little further, they’d find me. However, Benjamin had made up his mind that I was fine, so he led the group out of the forest.Oh, how I wished I could call out to them and beg him to let me go. I didn’t want to follow him around anymore. I had suffered enough in this life. All I wanted was to move on and be free of them forever, but of course, no one could
